What played a role in the increase in number of the Maronites in the 1700 and 1800 compared to the other sects in the local area? Did. Conversion play a role?

Wow...great lecture. I wish Charles Hayek would do similar lectures to cover the Arab World from the late bronze age to the present in all its diversity. This kind of rational presentation would drive tolerance and bring us all close together. I bet audience would also rise to a million. Keep up the good rational work.

هل تم التعتيم قصدا على دور الرهبانيات اللبنانية ابتداء من نهاية القرن السابع عشر وبداية القرن الثامن عشر ام أنه تم ذكره ولم انتبه لذلك؟؟

سيد شارل، مع كل الاحترام والتقدير لمجهودك، لقد تحول تأريخك الى سردية بحد ذاته يعتمد على بعض التاريخ وبعض التحليل. أصبت في جزء ولم تصب في أجزاء. كثير من المراجع تتعارض مع الكثير مما ما تورده.

انا كمهتم بتاريخ ومسلم بالنسبة للموارنة هم اتباع مار مارون احد المذاهب المسيحية اما اصولهم فهم فنيقيين وسريان وعرب الفتيقيين هم السكان الاصليين لسكان جبل لبنان والساحل الذين جاؤوا من الجزيرة العربية قبل الاف السنين والسريان الذين هاجروا من شمال سوريا بالقرب من حلب والقبائل العربية المسيحية كالغساسنة وغيرهم والعرب الانباط الذين اسسوا النبطية في جنوب لبنان وبعض العرب الذين تحولوا من الاسلام الى المسيحية المارونية كالشهابيين في جبل لبنان وامتزجوا جميعا مع بعضهم البعض واصبحوا موارنة .

المحاضرة عظيمة، بس حابب ضيف او صحح معلومة ان السريان الأرثودكس هم الذين انتخبوا البطرك يوحنا مارون، الذي انضم الى روما، وانشق عهم او العكس السريان الأرثودكس.

Dear Charles, can you tell us if Turkey suffered from a famine at the same time we did. It is the occupying power who is responsible for the protection of their subjects, and if they cannot, then they should leave us in peace. We ask ourselves why are we in this situation now, it is 500 years of brutal occupation. You have put the evidence in front of us. The biggest crime they committed is they made us lose our national identity, that is who are we? Regardless, I am glad to see our historians write our own history. Keep up the good work

Mountains of Lebanon was & were never invaded by Arabs. They maintained there independence and what was wrong in adopting the language of Arabic into mainstream. Arabic is a strong and beautiful language. When you look at Ancient Coins of first Arab conquest they gave the Cross the term or title Muhammad.

@@josephbousader4191 We were not forced to speak Arabic we adopted the language to trade & coexist with the Arabic speakers as well. What’s wrong with speaking in Arabic it’s roots come from Aramaic.

@@clevelandwilliams5922 Not sure, some Iturians had put their steps there but it's hard to know if they where Arabs or Arameans (Maybe both). Arabic and Aramaic are two sister languages. One doesn't descend from the other but the Arabic alphabet descend from the Aramaic Alphabet which descends from the Canaanite one.

(سرديتك) قائمة على شيئين الاول هو التشكيك بكل المصادر المسيحية و محاولة نفي كل المجازر اتي ارتكبت بحق المسحيين او تبريرها اذا لم تسطيع نفيها للتذكير : لم تذكر اي مصدر من مصادر المعلومات التي سردتها نفيك للرواية المارونية بحد ذاته بحاجة لدراسات مع ذكر كامل للمصادر التي تثبت صحة ادعائك

Is this a joke? How can a self-proclaimed historian speak about Maronites without any knowledge of Syriac, and overlook the role Arabic played in the extinction of the Aramaic language in Mount Lebanon. Shame on you, Charles.

Interesting opinion of Lebanese history. However, Charles Al-Hayek is in denial of well documented facts and attempts to rewrite history to suit his modernist "woke" narrative. He is clearly biased and short sighted, not that dissimilar to the politicians which he mocks.

do you have any background info about this speaker? what religion is he? protestant?.atheist? Muslim convert?. 47.50 ouf he is lying to his teeth there are french documents from a French historian acknowledging that the freemason French didn t give a damn about the Maronites during massacres of 1860 and how the freemason English supported the druze in massmurdering the CHRISTIANS AND IN THESE DOCUMENTS IT IS CLEARLY MENTIONNED HOW THE OTTOMANS joined THE DRUZE THE CHIA TRIBES ANDTHE SUNNI (WHO WERE BACKED BY the SUNNIS OF ARABIAN PENINSULA ) in SLAUGHTERING THE CHRISTIANS IN THISE MIXED AREAS ! ( but didn t dare to come near the fully Christian areas of keserean) ! SO NO DISHONEST HISTORIAN , OTTOMANS DID NOT STOP TGE WAR THEY PARTICIPATED IN THE SLAUGHTERS ! the report also say that Maronites fought with all their strength but once they saw the ottomans joining too they lost their morals ! there s a story about a maronite had a close druze neighbour who turned on him.and with the help of ottoman took his scalp off his head in front of the maronite wife , cut his fingers and stabbed him multiple times horrors of the sort. the women fled half naked to Beirut. MONSTERS.

🚫 the French document pdf is called sauvons les Maronites par l algerie et pour l algerie. author eugene vayssettes. a horror story literally! ottomans did join druze sunni chia in slaughtering the Christian maronites. hypocrit French at some point wanted later to transfer like cattle the maronites to Algeria to work as their slave farmers and I assume mjst probably to be their spies among muslims which the Maronites refused categorically as I read in another local document ! monsters ! those French a d British monsters assist the ottoman Muslim bigger monsters in the demonic genocide of 2/3 of the chridtisns of mount Lebanon .!

سرديتك تتجاهل ان كل المسيحيين تعرضوا للسحق ابان و خلال الحرب العالمية الاولى السريان، الارمن و اليونانيين و هذا امتد لجبل لبنان و ذلك لان العثمانيين اعتقدوا ان المسيحيين خطر على وجود الامبراطورية الارشيف الالماني يذكر تفاصيل عمليات التطهير كم التدليس بكلامك هائل

الرواية التاريخية تختلف دائما عن الرواية الدينية. الرواية الدينية ينقصها دائما الصراع السياسي القائم و يتم وضعها في إطار الشد العصبي. جميع المجازر التي حصلت بحق المسيحيين منذ الحرب الصليبية حتى الآن سببها الغرب و محاولته المستمرة لسرقة المنطقة حتى لو كان على حساب أقليات المنطقة. بالتأكيد هذا لا يبرر مقتل الآلاف أو الملايين من الفلاحين و الدراويش لكن هذه نتيجة الحروب.

The sad part is this man trying to get attention for him self. Which is obviously moved him from a school teacher to AUB... the holly ground of the new Christians that was created by American Christian church with help of Israel. Well he is sadly reaching to the younger generation and he talks as if he telling a story to bunch of kids. Please do your own research if you want . I am not defending any church just it's the timing and his work raise many questions.

بروبغاندا محض. لا قيمة علمية لهذه المحاضرة. ما يطرحه هو سردية بحد ذاتها. أما كمال صليبي فهو كاتب روائي أكثر من كونه مؤرخ، تجاهل المصادر السريانية الأساسية يسقطه في سردية قومية عربية، لذلك الموضوعية مفقودة.
