Its so sad we didn't get a fully stop motion version of this film, it would have been a masterpiece

Yes! The included actors killed this one for me. 🥴

Being a model maker for the film industry was my dream job, but we moved away from SoCal in my early teens and that is where the dream was happening. I think minature shots, when done right, are superior to CG.

Good morning Emmanuel, so what do you do to stay creative mate? Just curious. Best wishes from an English miniature armour-maker in a French forest. 👍⚒️

It's about the perfect balance, knowing what shot/element to do practically or digitally...and being mindful about budgeting and deadlines. 😄

@@nigelcarren Sorry for the late reply. 3D modeling these days. Serves the creative need, but not the same. They are truly hard to break and take up a lot less space than the plastic models of my youth. After work, family and social life, I can easily do it when I have a moment or two. I have helped my kids with school assignments that require a physical model. Let us just say that the models we build are very accurate and to scale. The teachers give knowing looks when we turn in the projects at their school. I can't help myself.

The models shown here are quite spectacular. It's really hard to even pick a single one out for praise, they're all so great!

It is a servile marriage between practical effects and CG. There's nothing like seeing your props and/or models on the big screen being utilized and later enjoyed by the fans.

I visited Mackinnon & Saunders years ago, they were commissioned to make the original Martian puppets that would have been stop motion. Eventually Tim Burton decided to do it as CGI but he honoured his financial agreement with them which enabled them to buy the premises that got them going on the road they’re on today. The puppets were incredible. Masters.

I wish Burton had stayed with stop motion. The CGI aliens were OK for 1996, but old CGI ages badly. Stop motion would still look great!

@@piercefilm I agree completely. There’s stop motion from 100 years ago that still looks incredible for its techniques. Could I ask how best to watch your documentary? Is it in several parts on your channel or can it be purchased etc. I’m really enjoying it and wanted to make sure you felt supported. Van

@@SCULPTURAMAplus I uploaded all the interviews (about 15-20 hours). There is no one single film. You can go to the Playlists and search for certain types of movies. Thanks

What materials was used on Big Ben (the clock tower itself)? I would love to learn visual effects and miniature creations as well as exploding them to create my own movies.

Decent movie. Very unrealistic - no way humans could defeat a race that is far superior in strength, intelligence and beauty. But there's a certain charm when humans think they would have any chance.

You are overthinking it. 😄 It's A. Escapism and B. a homage to Pulp/B-List Sci-fi ... realism isn't exactly the criticism here
