Best of both worlds, Tull music with Martin Barre's guitar in the forefront of the music. This is more interesting instead of trying to make in a carbon copy of original. Martin being more melodious on the guitar.

Martin still has the chops. One of the best. That lead break in Aqualung is magic. He only had one or two takes to get nailed too. Not helped by being watched from the control room by Jimmy Page who is sloppy in comparison in my humble opinion.

Saw in an interview with Barr that Page was actually waving "hello" to him from the control room in the middle of the solo. Barr was worried he'd mess up and it would have to be a flute solo instead. Glad he came through!

Thanks for your input and kind words, they are truly great live. Martin told me on a interview i've done with him that he wanted a more heavy sound than jethro tull so this is the output. It's all down to the fun, and martin is having some :) Take care and have a nice day. Cheers from Turkey

Dude comparing any vocalist to Ian Anderson of today is saying absolutely nothing. No one would go form a band thinking, oh - if I can only find a vocalist that is better than Ian sounds today - we'll really have something. The guy sucks, the fact that Ian's voice is terrible these days doesn't make him suck any less, or your pathetic defense of this shitty singer any more valid. Got that? and picking this guy as a singer for his band reflects badly on Martin as well. One can see why Martin never really did anything on his own, he has a weak ego, bad judgement and poor managerial skills not to fire this croaker. Wanna know how I really feel?
@justgivemethetruth
@justgivemethetruth 6 жыл бұрын
> You have NO FUCKING idea who you are calling "Dude." It's an expression, dude. Does that really bother you so much? > Dan Crisp afflicted? Who said that? He just sounds terrible. That is my honest opinion. I feel like I have been a paying fan long enough to be able to express my informed opinion as I like. I've bought every album both Ian and Martin have put out, multiple copies of almost all of them, and gone to many shows. Crisp's voice, to me, in my opinion, makes the music unlistenable. I don't pretend to speak for anyone but myself, but I have heard others agree, I am not the only one. > I spent 20 years traveling with Jethro Tull, the band helped me write a book about them, Good for you ... must have been the last 20 when Ian's voice sucked so you don't know any better. > A very nice guy--unlike you. You cannot tell whether or not I am a "nice guy" by attacking my honest opinion and getting into an argument on the internet. It is invalid for you to make judgements on other people's character based on superficial issues you might disagree with them with online. it's called bias or prejudice. Makes you not the most objective chap around. > Ian Anderson FIRED Martin Barre after 48 years with the band. That is not the story either of them tell. I don't think either of them said that. In the last shows I saw of Tull, and on the internet, Martins playing was cheap shredding, and not the nuanced improvisations he used to do live. > And Dan Crisp is a very nice man and a good guitarist Most nice people cannot sing well enough to be performing vocalists, and they should not be, > and a good guitarist So what, never said anything about his guitar skills, but good means he could qualify for a garage band. Martin is great, world-class, more than world-class and he deserves a better guitarist and especially a better vocalist. Probably it is callous to say it the way I did, but I think it is callous to present such great music with such a crappy vocalist, and I hate to see Martin always hiding off in the corner like a shrinking violet. if you cannot accept other people have opinions you might not agree with, maybe the internet is not a place you should be hanging out. And yeah, I use a site handle ... what a shocker. You sound like a 4 year old. And by the way, Ian is now a "Fat Man" ... wanna argue about that too?
@justgivemethetruth
@justgivemethetruth 6 жыл бұрын
Did Ian ever tell you why he always harassed Martin onstage, by jacking off his flute at him or between his legs? Did you put that in your book? Everybody I ever talked to about that thought it was stupid and gross. But I guess it's only fucking solitaire.
@justgivemethetruth
@justgivemethetruth 6 жыл бұрын
I would not have responded to you at all if I suspected you were so emotional about it. If I had known you spent your life smoothing over the PR image for a rock band it would be more clear where you are coming from and why you would seek to deny or attack any criticism or what you deem as negativity. Your initial post coming out of left field and comparing a singer to Ian of today was so irrelevant as to offend me. It is merely my opinion that Dan Crips's style of singing does not go well ( in the extreme ) with Ian's/Tull's style of music which is punchy and carefully articulated not raspy and breathy. The playing is fine and I am happy to hear it online, but I don't like to see Martin stuck in the background or Dan standing in front of him, and obscuring him from the camera with the headstock of his guitar.

In 1969 Ian Anderson chose Martin Barre over Mick Taylor (and Brian May too !) to play guitar for Jethro Tull. This was after Tony Iommi and Mick Abrahamson left the band. At that time Anderson had a recording contract and there were more than a few British Guitarists that wanted the job. Anderson chose Martin Barre over many many now famous Guitar players. This video proves that Martin Barre is one of the ELITE Guitarists of the Rock n Roll era. I Liked his tone better when he played GIBSON's tho.

@@tevforHim Saw Tull this week on the Brighton leg of their tour, and yes, as I expected, Anderson's voice is 60% at best. Like you I'd prefer to see Martin, he plays most of my favourite stuff, or at least he did the last time I saw him, the guitarry stuff from 1970-80 roughly. Came back from the Tull gig and IMMEDIATELY booked to see Martin in London June 2022. Anderson's Aqualung "version" was disappointing. Will very much be looking forward to Martin playing the whole album through. Stay safe Martin :)

All due respect to those performing, but the vocalist has a distinctly English accent... Had he been an articulate and clear speaking Scotsman, it would sound more correct. I shall add, the early band member pay inequity, for Martin & John Glascock has significantly diminished my over all respect for the now very wealthy and Queens medaled Ian Anderson.
