What Martin Said.....
‘’My God - One of our best songs in the set
Because we re-arranged it, it feels different.
We put a new middle section in where the flute solo was.
We do Palladio by Carl Jenkins
Absolutely seamless - it works so good’’

Love that Martin is out there doing his version of Tull classics.Martin is playing better than ever with lots of fire.He's got an excellent band behind him with and exceptional bassist in Alan Thomson who's admirably filling the shoes of the great bassists who played in Jethro Tull before him.

I’ve been a Tull fan since I first heard Benefit. I’ve seen them 9 times. But I refused to see them anymore since Ian sacked Martin. Now, with this young man singing, Martin as incredible as ever AND Clive Bunker on skins, this is the REAL Jethro Tull. And thank you for playing Teacher. I never got to hear it live. Fantastic job to all.

As I read it Andersen broke up JT. Martin said it in an interview that he Ian and Doan Perry were on tour and he dropped the bomb. That was in 2011 and there was no Jethro Tull after the tour...at least not for the next 11 years when Andersen revived it and released Zealot Gene in 2022. It wasn't like Martin was kicked out and the band continued on without him.. Nobody continued on... at least not for another decade.

@@jermaschinot Ian was certainly the major songwriter,r but what would that 80% sound like without Barre's guitar work. It's not always the words. Sometimes it's a driving bass line or catchy riff or some killer drum intro. It's rarely just one guy.
@jermaschinot
@jermaschinot Жыл бұрын
@@nicke.3782 agree, But to expand on my point a little, at his concerts, Martin plays 80% of Ians songs with Ian's blessing. And within ian's songs, Ian wrote the lyric, the bulk of the musical idea, and also all the flute, most of the acoustic, All the singing and more. Martin played the guitar. (wonderfully, of course, I love Martin and his great contributions). You're not dissing Ian, I get that, but lot's of folks in Tull world take savage sides against Ian. Just trying to afford more perspective .

From a Tull fan since 50 years: absolutely wonderful. Martin is still as good as ever, the band is very professional, the arrangements are just beautiful. @@c.a.t.732 Of course the band is fantastic, but I disagree with your comment on Dan Crisp. 1st off his singing is great and I think he does his own type, and own style of singing, and I don't see any attempt to imitate Ian Anderson's physical mannerisms. I think what he does is just his natural reactions and feelings, but I understand a lot of people really just want to hear Ian Anderson. but I actually like this Better, not better than the old original Ian Anderson, but much better than the current Ian Anderson.

@@williambaldridge1203 In numerous videos I've seen Crisp seems to be "doing" Anderson, whether bugging his eyes or doing hand gestures or facial expressions typical of the fellow who actually wrote those songs. Others have commented on that as well. As to his voice, it's certainly in better shape than Mr. Anderson's, sadly.
@williambaldridge1203
@williambaldridge1203 2 жыл бұрын
@@c.a.t.732 You know it's possible, maybe, once in a while he might do a slight tribute to Ian with the movements, but I really don't agree with your assessment, because I've seen him perform live and on various videos of them doing the songs, and I think hes pretty much unique to himself. I think it's a testimony to Martin Barre's genius that He picked a guy who had a unique voice, and Crisp does have a very unique voice. Just like Ian Anderson did. I think Martin realized he didn't need someone who sounded just like Ian, he needed a good singer with a unique type of voice, and that's what he got. I think he's a long way from doing Ian's hand gestures, maybe some of old Ian's gestures, but if you saw Ian Anderson through the seventies and early eighties, then I don't see how you could possibly think that Crisp was imitating Ian Anderson. I think you could watch almost any singer, singing any song, and you'll see some of those similar type hand movements, and you just can't imitate Ian's eyes bugging out, that's Unique. either you have eyes that bug out like that, or you don't, and crisp doesn't. I'm just saying, be fair, judge the guy on his abilities don't try to continuously compare him to Ian Anderson, because no one is gonna be Ian Anderson. He's unique, and there will never be another, but so is Dan Crisp, there will never be another one of him. either.

Hello Jeff, Just like Robin Trower & Dave Mason Martin & Clive have lost nothing they just get better & better . Yea i may be right behind them in age by 10 years or so but it just goes to show if your good & you don't stop playing your musicality remains . I have been playing since i first began in 68 & i's like to think i still got it . What a fine show but it is what you would expect from such talents. If you have some time i would like to share one of my own tunes i wrote in 74 & finally recorded on an old 4 track reel to reel in 87 with friends from my school days in the 70s. Martin was one of many influences & to see him still crushing it is a joy, plus what a band he's put together & a guest such as the legendary Clive Bunker makes it even better. Please feel free to leave me a comment if you wish but leave it on my post not back here. Your comment is spot on here. As i don't sing my composition is an instrumental one. I saw Robin Trower in Buffalo in 2019. I think he was 74 at the time. I used to listen to "Bridge of Sighs" album with headphones back in '78....and at 74 yrs old he was also bang on. Note for note, inflection for inflection. Much respect for all of these great players that keep on keeping on. Holy cow! Maybe it is good that Ian cut Martin Barre? Now we have two Tulls! Martin's version of Jethro Tull is a ridiculously talented, absolutely searing rock band. Their musicianship on stage is unparalleled and the 'updated' arrangements of classic Tull tunes are fabulous, and so are Martin's own compositions. On the other, we have Ian who is focusing on the more acoustic and 'lighter' arrangements these days, and that's his thing. I love both of them, but personally, I prefer the work Martin is doing these days 😀 to each their own...

The first time I saw Jethro Tull was 1971. The last time was 2016. This is amazing. Dan Crisp does a great job. Please come to Canada.

I saw Martin in Oakville, Ontario last week. Easily the best concert I have seen out of the 120+ different bands. The musicianship was phenomenal. The performance was dynamic and completely fresh. His band is A1. Martin is playing better than when I used to see him with Tull 50 years ago. One last point. The band plays as if they are enjoying themselves. They definitely are not going through the motions. In my opinion, a perfect concert!

@@davidbrown5152 Very enjoyable, as I was entering the Concert Hall, drummer Darby Todd was just arriving too and he held the door for me...after getting my ticket scanned I walked over to where they are selling T-shirts and CDs and there is Darby....we had a brief chat and he told me about the CD that he had made whilst waiting for Covid to go away, so I purchased one of his CDs... both CDs of Martin Barre and a Tour T-shirt for my adult son. :) The concert was excellent, Clive played great and really seemed to enjoy himself up there...excellent players, it was fun to sit so close and watch them perform ! Cheers, Jeff

@@MrJeffhamilton48 Sounds like you had a great evening! And you got to hobnob with the talent. I saw Dan Crisp, wandering before the last show but was too embarrassed to say anything! Lol When you bought your merchandise did you have a pretty, older lady serve you? I found out she is Martin Barre’s wife. Keep it in the family! I am off tonight to see the show in Brampton. I have 3rd row Centre seats. Not as good as you, though. Good enough to see Martin’s fret work. I play guitar (I’m a three chord wonder) and love seeing how the Tull songs are supposed to be played. I will never be able to come close in this lifetime! At least I know the opening riff to Aqualung! Thank’s for chatting. If I get invited on stage, I’ll let you know! Lol Cheers. David

This rather takes us back to the early seventies when Jethro Tull was one of the best bands in the world with great pin sharp live performance. I’m my estimation Martin Barre was largely responsible for that. But here, given free rein, he creates a refreshing interpretation of those songs .I gave up with Tull some years ago, but I’d definitely turn out for this.

Dare I say it? I think I'd rather see this than a current Tull show. Ian's voice has long ago left the building, and this is coming from a 50-year fan of JT. Martin has put together a fine band, and I didn't recognize Clive Bunker until I read another post. I never gave a thought to seeing this tour when it was in my area a few months ago, but I won't miss it next year when they return.

Now I know what I miss at recent Tull concerts. Although I don‘t like the staccato vibrato of Dan Crisps singing, he is a great guitar player and the Arrangements are sooo good. Thanks Martin. Miss you…

This is Great. Thanks for posting. It would be nice to see a festival of Older Rockers that have become "displaced" from their original bands and are keeping the original music ALIVE. Call it the "Founding Fathers Festival", or the "Not Dead Yet" Tour, or "Still Kicking Ass" tour and have Martin's band, Steve Hackett (Genesis), Nick Mason (Pink Floyd), K.K. Downing (Judas Priest), Rick Wakeman (Yes), Robbie Krieger (The Doors), Ritchie Blackmore/Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple), David Coverdale (Whitesnake), et al, all playing sets of all their respective "Easy Listening" bands we saw and heard ages ago.

I'm not a big Jethro Tull fan, but based on what I've seen here on KZfaq, I'd much rather see this band live than the current incarnation of Jethro Tull, and it's not even close. This is a real band. Martin's playing is as good as it ever was, if not better. He looks great for his age. The same cannot be said for Ian Anderson and his singing, unfortunately.
