BEGAFILM - HISTORY IN MOTION

Күн бұрын

After the Nazi Partys seizure of power in January 1933 Hitler spent more and more time in his private house „Berghof“ on the Obersalzberg.
While Hitler was in residence at the Berghof, Martin Bormann who was at that time „Reichsleiter“, which was the second highest political rank in the Nazi party, was constantly in attendance and acted as Hitler's personal secretary.
From there on, members of the inner circle also built their houses in the immediate vicinity of the “Berghof”.
The increasingly frequent stays of Hitler on the Obersalzberg required higher security measures.
To finance the extensive accommodations on the Obersalzberg, Bormann set up the Adolf Hitler Fund of German Trade and Industry which collected money from German industrialists on Hitler's behalf.
Bormann commissioned the construction of barracks for the SS guards, roads and footpaths, garages for motor vehicles, a guesthouse, accommodation for staff, and many other amenities. Retaining title in his own name, Bormann bought up adjacent farms until the entire complex covered 10 square kilometres (3.9 sq mi)

Albert Speer was a master builder in all that he designed. A shame most of his work was blown up unnecessarily.

Stayed at the General Walker as a young private in 95. Whish I had a cell camera back then. Did take some photos but did not really know the history of the area then. I do have a small 2"×2" blue/green bath tile from the guest house. Back then it was a ruin with the floor mostly gone. Also have a small piece of mortar from Hitlers garadge. Back then the front was semi covered but you still could get in via the windows. It's all been torn out now.

I am curious why you flipped the image at about 03:35. Swords are generally worn on the left hip, not the right. When I have seen that footage in other videos, the soldiers are lining up on the right of the screen, not the left.

At 4:26, a worker is shown who appears to be skeletal. Were prisoners employed on these projects?

Hochtief built many of these projects, and they (like most other sectors of industry) used slave labour from 1939 onwards. It’s difficult to ascertain the exact number used as they didn’t keep records and any that were kept have largely been destroyed. Some of the men were not slaves, and were highly skilled. I think given the proximity of the Fuhrer on the obersalzberg there may have been more of a reluctance to use prisoners on these particular projects.
