Amazing constructions and most probably many many men died in the making of these bunkers. I don't understand why the Eagles Nest and the concentration camps are places you can visit and yet the bunkers are blocked up. Surely they would be a very interesting place to see and would bring economy and an appreciation of the history to the area. Also they could one day be useful again as air raid bunkers or storage facilities.

I stayed here in 1989. It was such a beautiful hotel. I also took a tour of the bunker under the hotel but it was starting to get dangerous to take tours down there. It was one of my favorite trips while in Germany.

Last week visited Berchtesgaden, Obersalzberg, Kehlstainhaus. Saw all the sites and ruins, camped out the night few hundred meters under Eagle's nest. Went up with the bus, took golden elevator ride, had coffee and apfelstrudel in Eagle's nest. After that 2 days at Zell am See, camping and swimming in the lake, also had coffee in Grand Hotel.

Hard to believe looking back this existed and happened. And I now it did as my dad was there in 43-45 (miss you dad). May we never forget how easily it is for a country to be led in such a way and that our Founding Father's gave everything as did my dad's generation to insure our freedom.

The demolition was a decision of the bavarian govt. They sought to remove war relics and nazi era relics. The former platterhof was a military use property (us). Same with berchtesgaden hotel. All removed after us use ceased. There is no place for nazi preservation

At the 12:40 mark I was on that stair well in the early 1980's. I wish they had saved the old Platterhof (General Walker Hotel)

The shooting rage seems to be over designed. I look like they could use a target at 25 yards and 50 yards on the 100-yard range more cost effectively than excavating all three tunnels. Even though that was probably built with slave labor, the concrete and rebar was not free..
@johnhobbs62127 күн бұрын
Brilliantly detailed and interesting, thank you so much. I don't understand why the bunker system has now largely been sealed off, this is living history and an amazing piece of engineering, so important to remember the doubtless countess lives lost and backbreaking work of men in the creation of these tunnels. Why not have a museum entrance with finds from the bunker system then clean and reinstall the pumps etc and have the entire system open for everyone to see. I don't feel this would a glorification of the Nazis but a chance to witness history just as you may visit a castle which was at some point in history used for defence.

What a shame! Really well sourced and top quality footage almost make this channel unrivalled.... Pity that the absolutely pathetic robo voice narration that apart from making the content sound cheap, cannot pronounce the names and locations correctly. Gave up during the second one i watched.

I lost 23 family members on one side of my family, only one of them remained, my grandmother. And I think and feel it is incorrect, to wipe out the past. I would like this to stop. So that every generation ahead, that wishes and needs to, is able to visit these structures and see for themselves, what happened, how it happened, and with what immense structures, the Nazi's prepared themselves in order to rule the globe. By advancing Hitler's programs. It seriously needs to be harbored, maintained, and made ready for public inspection and education.

And now that diesel MAN engine in a semi working state now resides at the Anson Engine Museum, Cheshire, England. Apparently Hitler personally saw the engine fire into life to make sure it was in working order.

Scumbags aside who commissioned it...that is beautiful and a credit to the people who actually built it. It is ridiculous that it was all flattened and should of been dedicated to the folk who built it, but no, smash it all down and destroy all that stunning work carried out by the people who carved it, what a waste.
