New Guitar Demo at Eddie's Guitars in St. Louis, Mo.
The Martin J-40 isn't the first guitar I think of when I think "Classic Martin", but that alone makes this sleeper all the more impressive. It's an incredible finger picker as well. Play lightly and you'll find overtones to die for. Also, a great flat picker. All-around masterpiece of a guitar.

Marvellous guitar. Jumbo guitars are the kings of acoustic sound. Exceptional tonal range, clarity, tightness, volume, projection, endless sustain, and when strummed, they sound almost like a 12-string guitar.

I love my J-40 Martin from early 80`s.It’s a one of a kind guitar,special made with ordinary dot inlays and no fancy abalone.Just a clean beauty😉

Incredible, and there was I thinking the dreadnought was the sound to judge all other guitars by!!!, that demo has blown any such thinking out of the water.

First, great vid demos. Haven't been able to pick up the 000-28VS but. from your vid, seems the 000-28VS has even greater sustain, definitely greater range and volume than the J-40.. So, I don't know if that's the positioning of the guitar/mic or if there actually is that much of a difference. Do you perceive that much of a difference (if I were 1300 mile closer, we'd just stop by but ...)? Had sights set on the J-40 but, again, your vid of the 000-28VS (standard) has me reconsidering.

Just ordered one of the"reimagined" J-40s. This is a tragically overlooked model, and, in my opinion, the best looking guitar in the Martin standard line. I love the neck and headstock inlays of the 41, 42, and 45 guitars, but find the abalone body binding just a tad too much. The J-40 strikes the right balance of "fancy, but not ostentatious" in my opinion.

@@marksoftime it's a great guitar and does well with everything I throw at it. To me, it sounds like a more focused dreadnought; good bass response, but a little less scooped than a D-28. It handles strumming, flat picking, and fingerstyle without any problems. And...you know... it looks awesome

Hi guys, your reviews are awesome! Would kindly like to ask you a question, I'm very undecided between the J-40 and a D-41? In your personal opinion, which one is more comfortable to play? Is the body of the J-40 a bit smaller or bigger than a D-41? Thanks a lot and all the best...

To me, due to the slimmer waist, the Jumbo plays more comfortably. Im 6'3" so I may not be the best judge of what is too big lol. I have a J-41 Special that is the most beautiful guitar without getting over the top. I wish Martin would make another round of J-41s with Adirondack top and braces and a real mahogany neck and built like my 2006 D-18A. Light construction and hot hide glue.

yeah nice ! i higly recommend the Martin OOO-28VS and the OOO-42 , i have one of each and pure tonal satisfaction ❣❣ my personal opinion the OOO 12-fret is the best body shape developed for acoustic steel string

Awesome sounding guitar. I am interested in this model. Having a difficult time deciding between an HD-28 model/Marquis and this J-40. Anyone have some thoughts on which way to go with this decision?

I have a family member who purchased a J-40 about 20 years ago. Awesome sounding guitar... Through the years, she and her husband have owned a D-16, D-35, D-45 and 000-28EC. The J-40 has aged VERY nicely and gets played more than any, except maybe the 000. Best advice I can give is to play one for yourself. You may not like the larger lower bout -- which will make your decision a little easier.

Thanks for the input! I appreciate it. Sounds like I may enjoy the guitar. Interesting that they play the 000 so much. I am not sure how I feel about the lack of bass response in the o body guitars personally.

I have a newer HD-28V...fantastic guitar, but also interested in adding the J-40 to the line-up. Play them side-by-side, best way to tell what works/sounds best for you.
