I was just watching a doc about Second City where many from SNL and SCTV came from, including Short. And they showed Catherine O'Hara doing her own Kepburn and it was very very good. But I agree with you Short does the very best. That bit they did on SNL about relatives of the rich and famous has a bit where Short does the Hepburn and I believe it's one of the best things I've seen him do.

He is one of the best although my favorite one was Dana Carvey doing an impression of Katharine Hepburn trying to start her car on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. I think Carson almost had to go to commercial because he was laughing so hard.

When you’re fond of someone (if it’s a relative or an old friend) or you admire them a great deal (as is the case here), transgressions of that kind are easier to forgive. When that person occasionally has things to say few others would dare that are worth hearing, you could even grow to enjoy the delivery, including while on the receiving end. Now, with KH and BD there’s something else going on as well. They were being arrogant & in your face at a time when only men got to do that and get away with it. It took guts for female celebrities with that kind of personality not to choose to censor themselves all the time to avoid the consequences (which BD and KH both did suffer, BD especially). That’s what fans are praising here. Many non-fans too, precisely because they are aware of the social pioneering women like them were doing, whether they meant to or not.

She lived in Fenwick, a wealthy enclave in Old Saybrook CT. She was frequently seen around town and given a wide berth. @@degsbabe She was not a terrible woman. She was uncomfortable sitting in chairs without propping her feet up. She did the same thing at home while being interviewed. She preferred sitting on the floor if she had the chance. She was cracking jokes throughout the entire interview with Cavett and he loved her.

They were both great, however Kate aged better acting wise, she was still getting good roles in her 60s whereas Bette was relegated to B movies and supporting roles by this time. I admire in Bette that she was more diverse in her roles but towards the end she almost made anything they offered her because she needed the money. Also Kate was and still is the only actor to have won 4 Oscars which cemented her status as a legend.

The casual remark about " Spencer" gives it away as a largely made up story...the so called love story between the lesbian Hepburn and closeted repressed gay Tracy was legend indeed..and only that....she loved the publicity the Garson Kanin book ( himself a married closet case) gave her persona though so she eventually led that friendship take on the epic and largely false proportions it now seems to have in the public conscious....

For the record notwithstanding my mimicry I have always admired Ms. Hepburn as an actress ever since my parents forced me to watch The African Queen when i was "tweenager " .I was a already a Bogart fan by then so I really loved that movie. I have more even more admiration for the way Kate lead her life - As an independent woman ,as a pioneer and as an iconoclast. However, I think On Golden Pond is /was way overrated as a film. Way too maudlin and too much overacting and too much over emoting by the principal cast members . They were ACTING instead of being in the moment. That's the fault of the director, whomever the f he was.
