i dunno if she goes over it off camera, but i would say the most helpful tip to volleying for beginners is - PUSH the racquet, PUSH the ball, don't SWING. volleying is such a subtle, feel-based shot it's really easy to mess it up by overswinging and shanking it.

I believe whatever she said about volleying. After all, she is really a master tennis player. Her credentials is more than enough to back her words up.

Well, the live visit may have been entertaining, but this clip was worthless. Having said that, she's right about not letting the racket drop down to the waste. I do it way too often and give away points in doing so.

Martina: "Whatever you do, keep the racquet up." She then drops her racquet down to hit a low volley.
@dinh55323 жыл бұрын
I hope that was a joke because you're always suppose to have your racquet up in the ready position at all times. She had her racquet up in the ready position then saw the ball is coming lower, she adjusts as necessary.
@brianlee14173 жыл бұрын
@@dinh5532 I was half joking...what she correctly demonstrated and emphasized was an up close to the net volley technique for doubles. She should've finished her demonstration by only showing that kind of up close to the net volley and not hitting an advanced low volley from the service line. It confuses the group of beginners that she was teaching.
@dinh55323 жыл бұрын
@@brianlee1417 Based on your logic, the person feeding her the volleys should have only given her mid-volleys , which isn't realistic and not what she's referring to. Having your racquet up will ALWAYS give you the upper hand.
@brianlee14173 жыл бұрын
@@dinh5532 Me, you and Martina all agree that having your racquet up always gives you the upper hand. But having the racquet up doesn't teach you how to hit a low volley, which she didn't demonstrate how to do.
@dinh55323 жыл бұрын
@@brianlee1417 It does because when volleys come at you, you have less time to react and everybody who knows anything about tennis knows that being ready is key. And let's be honest, she's a pro and you're not and so you're nitpicking the unnecessary and doesn't even make sense. There are millions of shots in the book and this was a basic lesson and VERY important one. So I think you're done here.
@virginfitness3 жыл бұрын
Hahahahaha, she never steps forward, ever. She meets the ball with the racquet face angled to impact the ball, every time. Hips might rotate to 45 (or so) degrees most times. All are dependent on how much time she has to volley the incoming ball.

Strongly believe that she has been always good at volley, but does not know the real point how to hit volley YET.. I am one of those pathetic amateur players, but I just do study playing all about serve, volley and smash.. I just can tell a thing or two about tennis..

Hopefully someday Martina will learn to hit a proper volley if she watches enough KZfaq and reads the comments. 🤦🏻♂️
