I'm a grown man and this song and video break me down every time. This video forces me to hold tight to my humanity.

You NEVER disregard a vulnerable person in an abusive situation. Ever. That's a rule for all of humanity.

One of the scariest things right now about the shelter in place orders for COVID-19 is that kids are stuck in these houses now and parents who already had abusive tendencies are experiencing more stresses now. I worry that a lot of kids won’t make it through this. If you have any suspicion someone is at risk, say something and do something.

I am a metal head through and through. This song breaks anyone, BE BETTER. No child deserves this. Love your kids and protect them and even if its not your own PROTECT THE CHILDREN.

When I was a little girl, I used to listen to this song almost everyday when I was in my abusive home. I came back to listen to it in 2019 now that my step dad was sent off to jail and my home is now full of love. I’m almost finished high school and have so many opportunities lined up, but when I was a kid I didn’t even think I’d have the opportunity to live. So grateful for how things turned out.

I was this child and I survived. A lot of people who suffered this pain then go on and do it to their children. Break the cycle and be better. Always an amazing song. Such a powerful voice and message.

This thread of all who have suffered abuse in our childhoods but all finding solace in this song is so beautiful to me. My heart hurts for the pain you guys endured but I am so happy you all survived and get to have 4:08 minutes where you feel seen, heard, and loved. It’s not an easy life, but these small moments where we get to acknowledge and comfort our little selves are so profound. Get your healing anyway you can and love yourself for what you survived. I hope when you hear this song, millions of others are feeling what you are and you are not alone. I love you.

Heard this when I was kid and cried for the little girl, Now I have 2 kids of my own and it just broke my heart. So many emotions ran through my body I had to go hold my babies 😢

I just read a perfect saying for this song: Every child deserves a parent but not every parent deserves a child. So true.

I remember seeing this music video on CMT as a small kid, and knowing it was sad, but not fully understanding. My mom was watching with me, and when I asked her about it, she had a strange reaction and wouldn't talk about it. We were at my grandparents house. Years later, I learned my mom lived the life of the girl in the song, abused at the hands of my awful grandmother. Nobody would help her or say anything, all too concerned with minding their own business. I'm glad they showed a woman as the abuser in this video, it's not acknowledged enough that women can be cruel and abusive too. I've decided to become an adoptive/foster parent, and help kids who've lived through these situations. If I can keep even one child from living through what my mother did, it will all be worth it.

I had younger children when this video first came out. I cried thinking about how innocent children are. I now have 3 little granddaughters and I still cry hearing this song.

rest in peace to all the precious, sweet innocent angels who lived only a short amount of time on this earth and experienced so much suffering & abuse at the hands of the ones who brought them into this world -- their parents. no child should ever experience those kinds of things and have their lives ripped from them at such a young age. 🖤

All these years later and I still can't handle this song. It is at once strikingly beautiful and heartbreaking. I was not a child of abuse but lost 2 friends at a young age to abusive relatives. The punishment is never enough. NEVER.

I listen to this song when I'm down in the dumps while suffering through pstd. This song speaks my past and listening to it kinda gives me a comfort because I'm not alone with dealing or suffering with abuse as a child. I should of never dealt with so harm and which I did. The feeling of this song speaks so many words than I could even explain in my own words

I love how the song focused on the love that was brought to her. Great job. Despite what happened the one thing she was seeking was love and she found it in her neighbor. The little boy truly demonstrated to be a servant of the Almighty.

I wish I hadn't missed this in the early '90s. McBride seems to do a great job on these songs that deal with such serious subject matters.

The boy was already dead, having suffered the same thing, the boy lead the girl to heaven, with multiple children that had suffered the same hell.

I have never cried so much over a song. No one child or adult deserves to be treated like that.

thank you God for my life , I almost became a concrete angel at a very young age as well , until you came along and took me away from that life that was so cruel to me for 9 yrs , and I pray one day that horrible monster who took my childhood will have to answer to you ... I'm 44 yrs old now it's still hard sometimes , but I will never forget you Lord . or will I ever forget what you have done for me .... "Sometimes she wishes she was never born". I felt this. I remember being a child and hearing this song for the first time. Knowing I am a concrete angel. I had abusive dad who never showed me love. I have a permanent bruise on my arm, people always ask if its my birth mark. No its my angel spot, my concrete angel. To everyone saying there is no such thing as a permanent bruise, thank you. I did not know the medical term.. I do not understand why the fuck it bothers you all so much about this comment. I wrote something in confidence about myself, I do not need someone from anywhere in the world to tell me what happened to me. I felt connected to the song, and that was the whole point. Did your parents not teach you speak if you're spoken to???

I sing this song when I think of my mom. She was murdered by my dad 16 years ago. My love for her will NEVER fade. I miss you SO much mom 😢

This song as a mother of a daughter just hits even deeper man. I’ve always never been able to listen without crying but now it’s just too much. I’ve always believed some songs we have to force ourselves to listen to though if it’s difficult for us to hear just imagine how difficult it was to endure! This will forever be the hardest song and most powerful for me to listen too. The visuals paired with audio just broke my soul years ago when I first heard and saw it and it continues to have the same impact as that first viewing to me. Such a beautiful song on every level!

Concrete Angel is a heartbreaker, the most emotional song I have ever heard

My mom grew up in an abusive household. This song reminds me of how strong she was to survive such a terrible childhood and delivered my sister and myself such a loving home and childhood. Makes me sad but grateful beyond measure.

2024 im 29 this year, i lived this life, every night for the first 12 years of my life and it only got worse after that. I always listened to this song and would pray that would happen to me, so my suffering would end. it never did. There are still children living this life and we sit idle doing nothing to save them.

I have so much admiration for Martina and Carrie. Two amazing artists who aren't afraid to push the envelope to sing songs and be advocates and voices for the innocent and abused. Two amazing women!

Been listening to this song pretty much my whole life. I remember feeling this sad as a child almost always, physical abuse wasn't too bad but the neglect was. Now that I'm a mom I can't help but cry every time I hear this song, our children deserve the world and then some!!

Remember listening to this song on repeat as a child, because of the abuse I went through. I just connected with the lyrics. Back then I always saw the lines "but her dreams give her wings and she flies to a place where she's loved" as she flew to heaven. But as an adult those words have gotten another meaning to me. I wanted more out of life, I had ambitions.. and those things definitely let me to where I am today. With a man who loves me and cares for me❤ Still trying to heal from my childhood traumas, but I'm getting there 🥰

I listened to this all the time as a kid and just randomly thought about it now and wanted to watch it again. As a child, it broke my heart thinking she didn't have a loving mommy. Now I'm a preschool teacher, and it breaks my heart even more thinking about that teacher (and the teachers in real life situations) not doing anything. As a teacher, we are mandated reporters and it is our JOB to report any kind of abuse we may see. I know this is a song/video but it showcases what happens some times in real life. It's disturbing and ugly and I just hope people want to reach out and help those they see that are in need. Especially a child.

Fifty five years ago...I got beat so bad that when I went to school the next day...my teacher broke down. She couldn't handle it. The police were called..and I was sent home. Nothing changed. I was 8. This song makes me cry...hard...but it also reminds me of redemption. I am a dad, and a grandfather, and I NEVER spanked my child. Ever.

My mum sent me this song when I left home at 16 to live with my boyfriend aged 20... little did I know that this song would give me the strength to pull away from 8 months of physical, verbal and mental abuse every day I was there. My mothers biggest fear was the call she would get to tell her that her daughter had been killed by her abuser... this song breaks my heart and I sympathize with all children, men and women who are going through or have been through abuse 💜

This song just came into my head as my jaw dropped and my heart broke as I sat there in a state of shock, staring at the TV screen, mostly unable to comprehend completely what in the world had been done to such a sweet angel of a child. I still can't. Such a little boy. I still can't..i can't even imagine. I can't.
