Saw some metal flakes dropping while you were tightening and loosening that bolt for compressing/decompressing the valve. For smoother operation and increased longevity, I'd put some grease or oil on those threads to keep that from happening. Well done, looks like a great tool.

yes I may have forgot to mention that it is a good idea to use a small a small amount of grease on top of the retainer cup.

@@martinbuilt you should do a video demonstration on lapping the valves when rebuilding heads for the 4.7, which is something I'm in the process of doing but I have never done a valve lapping before. Just a thought/recommendation idea for ya

I didn't know that i have to remove all of this to remove the spring on cylinder 8. Still having problems. Bought a new spring and valve keepers for cylinder 8. I responded back to you through email. I wouldn't be able to pull my trailer with a dropped seat. No smoke.

That's a handy tool keep the valve keepers in the retainer and lay on top of springs used grease on find a piece of fuel hose on a locking needle nose and lay on top after installing spring tool and push down when compressing spring thats how i do it i may work for you

Should be able to, the only thing would be does your vehicle have an EGR and if so does the donor engine have one. And as long as both engine had an NGC ECM it should swap right over.

Hello Martin. Great video as always! I replaced my valve stem seals out side the engine compartment with a home made tool I prepared. It worked some what great and hey, face it, it did the job. For some reason three of them are leaking oil. I'm going in again, this time with the valves in the Car. There's no way I can do it with my "tool". The problem is that haven't been able to find it in your facebook page. Can you help me here with the info. Thanks in advance!

Have you seen the valve spring compressor that does two springs at a time in the day 5.2 or 5.9 magnums .. I used it for first time An did some mods to it an it was pretty slick too

Hi there, I have a 02 grand Cherokee 4.7 and picked it up cheap. Pulled the valve cover off the passenger side and saw no.2 cylinder rocker arm off. My question is if that happens would that cause that cylinder to have no compression? Or would it be a valve seat? Appreciate the channel and all the info

If that cylinder has no compression and the rocker arm is completely removed from it's normal position that would be a dropped value seat. ☹️

I don't know if you mentioned it, but putting the piston at BDC will keep the engine from turning when air is applied. I learned this the hard way years ago.

you'd only be able to do that on one cylinder, as your are unable to rotate the engine without losing the timing.

@@martinbuilt By leaving the other cam drive intact I believe you could turn the engine as long as you kept some tension on the loose chain. Getting time back would be a matter of getting the intact side cam mark straight up, and putting the other one back in with it's timing mark straight up. As long as the intact side was undisturbed it should all be good. At least that's how it seems to me remembering how the timing marks are in relation to each other.

Great video and really decent tool. One thing bothers me, since you're not turning engine, some cylinders may have open valves. Is air pressure still enough to keep valve in place?

The valves are all closed because the camshaft has been removed to use this tool. Thank you for watching.

I have actually tried that before and they do fit, I believe it was one or two of the valves, the seat area needed to be enlarged a little bit and I'm talking just thousands of an inch, but it may be okay. Now the 08 and later come with the valve springs with the seals. amzn.to/3VM9Lov

You have some great videos. I have a 04 jeep liberty 3.7 and I believe I have a rocker arm pop out. Knocking and running like its on 5 cylinders. The knock is consistent and from the videos i've seen it all points to this problem. I'm going to attempt to try fixing myself. Should I put in the upgrade rockers... I plan on doing the lifters at least on the side I have opened up

Unfortunately yes that's what it means. And actually that's what I suspect has happened I don't think a throne rocker would make a knocking noise. What I suspect is happening right now is the valve is stuck in a downward position and the piston is hitting the valve and that is the noise your hearing. You could verify that by removing the valve cover and then when replacing the rocker arm if you're able to reinstall it with no tools at all yeah valve seat dropped also check to make sure the spring is not broke if the spring is broke that could be the cause right there

So I dont have Facebook and Im a little curious as to the cost? I might have missed that part of the vid tho lol. Idk i feel like a universal overhead valve spring compressor does the job fine. I have the northern tool 20$ one, filed the spring grabber hook ends flat so they sit better on the spring, filed the pusher top flat as it’s poorly bent from the store and a few other little things. Anyway point is, your product is nifty! But personally id go with the universal one as I don’t think it’d be possible to do it for cheaper and it does the job
