There are a few reviews of the Estwing AL-Pro® on KZfaq but yours is the best. Your video brings back fond memories of my younger days in Louisiana. Building houses in Lafayette ‘79 into the early ‘80s. The old timers I worked with used Plumb® wooden handled hammers. I preferred a 20 oz. Stanley® smooth face with fiberglass handle. It was heavy enough for framing but I could trim with it too. Hammers got heavier and heavier now they are trending lighter and lighter. I used to go to an oyster bar in Abbeville, (Black’s Oyster Bar?), is it still there? Louisiana oysters are the best! Best of luck.

I’m a shutter and formwork carpenter from England. I started at 16 years old with a 20oz estwing, but when they started being stocked in the U.K in the late 90’s I switch and have stayed with a 24oz long handle framing hammer. The Estwing is a bulletproof tool for using with the metal shuttering systems though, I can’t see anyone racking up a dwyidag wing nut with one of those Martinez hammers.
@fixinthecoast267
@fixinthecoast267 3 жыл бұрын
Man as much as I love Estwing, you have got to get your hands on either a M1 or M4 Martinez man. I honestly feel every carpenter should try one at least for a week and you'll fall in love. The Martinez hammers are built extremely strong and durable. I took the chance when I bought my first one and I'm glad I did! And we're a jobsite that all used to swing Estwing!

I did comparison dead on 2 hits and sank a nail, estwing 3 hits dalluge 5. I chose milwaukee cordless or senco air framer case closed.

Funny when they say the martinez is heavy. It only FEELS heavy because less weight is off of the handle and makes the 15oz feel heavier. I likes my alpro, but i love my martinez m1. I put less work into my swing. Balance is similar to a vaughan 23oz framing hammer, Head heavy.

Estwing Shingling Hatchet: Roofing Stiletto 14oz: General hammer Stiletto 16oz: Wood handled framer Estwing 16oz Smooth Face claw: Finish work Estwing Driving Hammer: moving heavy timbers If I had to pick one forever, it's still be an old school solid steel Estwing, a 24oz rip hammer with a straight claw. When I hit garage sales or yard sales and I see an old Estwing, I just get it, no matter how many I have. I keep them all over, (trucks, shop, kitchen, garage, etc...). If I had to pick a favorite outside of my shingling hatchets, it'd have to be the Stilettos. They made carpentry work so much more fun for me, especially demo and quick framing jobs. And yes, there's a huge difference between the 14oz & 16oz even though it's only 2 ounces. I can't explain it, but when it comes to titanium, there just is. But Estwing is and always will be the king of hammers, period. I could do everything with just one 24oz framer if I had to.

No one hand drives anymore. I grew up hand driving using the heaviest Estwing I believe at the time I used a 28. Looking back it destroyed my elbow. Learn to work a hickory California framer and your joints will love you for it thirty years from now.

Boss man owns the AlPro and I own the M1. Both are absolutely amazing hammers. You wouldn't think you'd need a $100-$300 hammer until you own one! The M1 is a Cadillac in my hand, I love the inertia that comes with the swing. First month or so it was awkward because I've swung estwings for 11years but after I got used to it, I don't want to swing anything else. I'll be ordering a m4 soon for finish work

I’ll bet if you got an m4 you’d love it, it seems like that’s a lot more your speed. I have two of the Martinez’ m1 wouldn’t trade them for anything, a buddy at work had the aluminum estwing, he barely used it, it wouldn’t move things like he needed, doesn’t pull nails worth a dang, won’t pull things apart...literally broke in half pounding a nail....junk! Best hammer for the money for all out framing is by far the estwing builders hammer, followed by a good old 24 or 22oz estwing, if you want a sweet hammer with a few more tricks up its sleeve the Martinez m1 with a straight handle is a slick beast, but the Stiletto Ti-bone is also a great choice.

This is a Great comment! I've been wanting to build me a All Black M4 badly! I will be ordering one soon because we are getting to the finishing side of our 2 big customs homes! Now I do like the estwing Alpro but personally, the Martinez is just one of a kind. Something about the inertia of the swing us unique. Definitely a power house if your trying to get framing to move. I am filming a M1 Torture test video this week because everybody is giving Mark Martinez shit for the heads not being forged and saying they are weak. Well we will see! I have full faith in Martinez tools!

Well I have been using the al pro for a month now and I have to say it drives nails like a dream, but it sucks pulling nails, so I'm ordering the Martinez m 1, once you have a side nail puller on your hammer you will never go back. I understand that you guys are framers and rarely pull nails, but us concrete guys need that Martinez no way around it.
@fixinthecoast267
@fixinthecoast267 3 жыл бұрын
well even as framers, we still have fuck ups and have to pull nails haha. And we like to re-use our form up boards from concrete for dead wood in our walls. i totally agree about the estwing, swings like a dream but the baby claw kills it. ive never experienced anything like the leverage of the M1 side nail puller and also the claw on the martinez is SHARP , youll love it

You should consider a stiletto TB3, it’s kinda a lighter version of the Martinez m1. It was also designed by Martinez. I love the m1, love the innovation, love that it’s customizable and easy to repair. And let’s not forget to mention that’s it’s pretty. BUT I much rather be swinging the stiletto

I am about to buy a new hammer soon. Somehow, the MANY feedback of broken Estwing Al-Pro handles keeps me off of buying this one. The M1 seems to last longer than 1 year according to costumers...
@fixinthecoast267
@fixinthecoast267 2 жыл бұрын
ok, so personally, i would look at what work you are using the hammer for mostly. ive used all of these hammers and by far my favorite out of all of them has been the M4 martinez. the ALpro we have still hasnt broken and gets abused however to me, the Martinez packs a better punch, has a better and sharper claw and the side nail puller is seriously a game changer. now, M1 vs M4, having both, i love how hard the m1 hits with the leverage of the longer handle, however unless your really swinging the hell out of it, it tends to feel a bit awkward being so long (still a amazing hammer), ad hitting in corners is another issue because of how big the head is on the M1. lastly the M4....i seriously love this all around hammer, it hits super hard, the handle is the perfect length, still having great leverage for the side nail puller and the head on it is the perfect size for framing and finish work. the M4 is my every day carry and personally, i wouldnt change it for anything. M4 is my vote bud. Good luck with your choice, theyre all great. Thanks for watching!

Never put enough miles on a steel hammer. But the Stilletto is too light. Martinez is best of both worlds. Flip it around, twirl, finger spin. Martinez M1 has the best balance of any hammer I've tried.
