I have seen so many apprentices buy the newest and greatest hammers all to eventually end up with a estwing

my first framing hammer was a 22 oz estwing that had been used for 40 years by an old school carpenter who could hand nail fast as an air nailer.

Just bought a 22oz Spec Ops hammer, today. It's not an Estwing, but so far I'm loving it. What's also great about it is that a percentage of the purchase price goes to veterans.

I'm early into my carpentry career and I just got a 20 Oz estwing (I wanted a 22 but none were in stock). This video made me so excited to use my new hammer and find more work to keep using it! Much love! Thank you for the video!

I have an Estwing 22oz. And it’s my favorite. Its a beast. A hundred years from now, this thing will still be driving nails and doing demolition.

I have a 35 year old Vaughan 16oz. fiberglass handle I bought at Costco (Price Club at the time) and a 22oz Estwing waffle face framing hammer that's used for pretty much everything I do from this point forward except for finishing.

I've had them all but the Martinez has stayed in my toolbag for the last 4 years. I'll never go back to all steel hammers.

I’m a siding installer. I started out using a 20oz solid steel hammer. I stopped using it when I couldn’t sleeping at night due to shoulder pain. Then I got a 14oz stiletto curved handle. I used it for a while, but it wasn’t comfortable to my hand. I now use a stiletto 12oz straight handle and no discomfort or complaints.

Me, never have any issues or problems using a Steel drop forged framing hammers especially California Framer style hammers. Because I got skills and techniques of how to use them. The only time I get fatigue and my shoulder, my arms and my elbows hurts is when I'm using pneumatic framing Collated nailer or cordless framing Nailers. I'm 53yrs old and I love Steel hammers with a wooden handle.

I get that, for siding you wouldn't need any more than the 12oz stiletto

Seriously I've been siding and roofing for 25 yrs. and never had any health issues. It's the operator not the hammer.

If you're breaking your hammer handle repeatedly then be advised that you are the tool. It's like crashing every car you buy and blaming the car.

I've been using Vaughan California Framer style framing hammers for years. And it really works for me so well. I have a 19oz smooth face curved hickory handle, 23oz Waffled face curved hickory my old 27oz California Framer waffles face straight hickory handle. I also have Dalluge 21oz Steel Waffle Face Curved Hickory Handle California Framer Hammer, my recently purchased framing hammer the Hardcore Hammer made out of 4140 Alloy Steel and the waffle disc is made out of S-7 Machined tool steel (think jackhammer bits). All of my framing hammers are California Framer style hammers Rip Goat Head 🐐 🔨 and they works for me so well! Never had any problems or issues. For pulling out nails? It's easy! Techniques is to use the CLAW of your hammer. Rip goat head Claws are also best for light demolition works.

I'm a bricklayer and have a 20oz estwing but recently bought the 22oz and I love it. 22oz has a bigger striking face amd is ideal for me. Only thing I wish could be added to its design is a nail puller as sometimes when hammering ties into timber frames sometimes miss the studs and a little notch for pulling nails would be ideal. But all in all a great hammer

Can't beat an Estwing. My curved claw 20oz is over 50yrs old and was my dad's. I have a 22 rip claw framer and it's awesome. They take some pounding and they are super balanced.

I have had my Estwing 22oz with waffle head for exactly 25 years. I used it working part time construction in my late teens\early 20's and have used it on plenty of projects over the years. Its not a light hammer, but it is reasonably inexpensive and close to indestructible.
@SweetStat
@SweetStat 3 жыл бұрын
You know what’s not indestructible? Your wrist and elbow. Anyone swinging a hammer full time should not be swinging a 22oz estwing

"What hammer you should buy"? Rookie comment. You should buy every hammer you want & need. 😂 I have an Estwing for demo (actually several), I have a couple of Stilletos for fast framing (14oz & 16oz) and I have mallets & small drivers for persuading timbers into place, not to mention my mainstay roofing hatchets. Could I do everything hammer? Sure. Everybody "could" do that. Buy why? Too many compromises in using an Estwing for everything (ironically enough, my favorite brand & hammer) when there are better options like Stilettos and other specialty hammers. But for the typical homeowner/weekend warrior? Get the Estwing. 22oz is the sweet spot for typical household chores. Besides, for the pros, all framing hammers are essentially just accessories to nailers these days for knocking down proud fasteners and maybe knocking a board into place and the occasional hard to reach with a gun situation.

I would add as a finish carpenter and cabinet maker a Halder Simplex 30 with the non mare and soft head "mallet"/hammer. Won't damage your work or the trim and will whack a sharp chisel pretty good. And why make your tool belt heavy.

Had an estwing. Never again would I buy one it does damage to your shoulder and elbow . Went to a curved wood handle vaugh 19oz waffle loved it. No I have a 15oz martinez curved handle and great grip and no vibration like the wood but has the strength to last like steel. I wood handle Hammer has never broke yet letting others use it chipped up the wood by the head and would eventually break
