Our friends at MartinLogan have just released an incredible update to their line of Motion Series loudspeakers. Completely reimagined with a fresh attitude and sleek design, the series includes four new tower models, two bookshelf speaker pairs, two center channels, and a very cool new multipurpose speaker. These are broken down into two series within the Motion line - the Motion and Motion XT.
The Motion Series was introduced many years ago to deliver an effortless electrostatic sound without the cost associated with true electrostatic speakers. One big secret to their success was the MartinLogan Folded Motion Tweeter, which delivers the open sound people associate with electrostatics in a more conventional design.
These latest additions are the fourth generation of the Motion Series. Audio Advice is one of the largest MartinLogan dealers in the world, which gives us access to their engineers to get the inside scoop on some of the new tech, including some prototypes to test out for this video. Neat huh?
When MartinLogan said, all-new, they meant it - updated drivers, cabinets, and cosmetics. MartinLogan insiders told us the goal was to improve sensitivity, lower distortion, provide higher output, and get even closer to a flat frequency response. We love all of those characteristics at Audio Advice. In our opinion, they have certainly pulled it all off. They also succeeded in changing the look of the new models quite nicely.

Is the dispersion of the tweeter pretty flat horizontally to cover fours theater seats in a row about 10 feet from the speaker?
@AudioAdvice
@AudioAdvice Жыл бұрын
That is pretty close for 4 seats, if you had the speakers spread the same distance as the outer edges of the seats, yes.

Why are they as expensive as a used car? At what point do these prices get out of hand? In this day and age where our floorstanding speakers are almost a thing of the past, you’d think with an exceptional product they’d lower the co💲t and try to get more business in quantity while trying to save the hobby. Even after showing this younger generation how amazing stereo and home theater can be, they’d rather go with a soundbar or earbuds. I mean my headphones have 12 drivers and haptics. My surround sound is 6 Klipsch floorstanding speakers and each have 2 10’s, a center with 4 6’s and a 10 (upfiring), 4 pioneer Atmos and 2 velodyne 12 subs. Maybe Martin Logan feel they get enough business from rich people, but I feel like there’s no rhyme or reason to a lot of the prices we have today. Their price points keep getting higher where the performance isn’t justifying it. I can’t knock the products as a whole, just the price. I sold, designed and built home theaters for 20 years with Circuit City, HH Gregg and our own construction company. People like these speakers, but most can’t afford them.

I know what ya mean about the prices, i would like to upgrade my 25-year-old floor standing Paradigm Reference Studio/100 Loudspeakers... but they still sound great to my ears, and back then only cost 1800.00 a pair...
@NickkaDUB
@NickkaDUB 11 ай бұрын
@@miked91101 And you never get your money back out of them. Last month I bought a pair of Def Tech BP-8080ST’s for $500. This weekend I’m picking up two Def Tech Mythos ST and 4 Mythos Gem XL for $500 total. The 8080’s and the Mythos towers both cost $4,000 a pair. I almost feel bad for the guys I bought them from. Oh, and the center channel was $1500 which he threw in for $100. That was the CS-8080. These are awesome speakers. I unhooked my subs to see how these did with bass. I never felt the need to hook the subs back up and the bass will be even better when I add the Mythos ST which also have built in subs. I used to have car stereos that hit over 137db, but I’m still fine with these speakers. I don’t even have power amps. I just use a really nice receiver. If your speakers still sound good, keep them. My other Klipsch system have speakers that are about 20 years old. I haven’t even had to upgrade the capacitors or baffles. You could see if there’s a kit to upgrade yours. If you’re set on getting different speakers, watch eBay or FB Marketplace. You will save so much money. Just make sure you can return them if there’s any issues. I even got the $2000 Pioneer Elite 505 new for $800.

Great review! Just subscribed. I am building two home theater systems, and a legacy listening room. The first is the great room and I'm doing these with a hybrid of RSL legacy speakers and their new line of home theater speakers. The L & R fronts are the old RSL 3800s, 3 way 12 inch woofer. The remainder is from their current line of home theater speakers. I have a certain loyalty to the RSL family, and I believe they are up there with other speaker manufacturers, such as JBL (historically) and currently, with Martin Logan. RSL currently uses Kevlar drivers in their new lines. I don't have the perfect listening conditions. The legacy listening room consists of my Marantz 2270, the Pioneer CT-F1250 cassette deck, the Dual CS 607 turntable, and the ESS Heil Air Motion two way legacy AMT speakers. Now comes the question, this for my master bedroom home theater system. I have some legacy Martin Logan Motion 40, with I believe is a Motion 8 center speaker, if I recall. I wonder if there old Motion 20s would be a good fit for the rear speakers. And, I wonder what a good Martin Logan sub would be without breaking the bank.
@AudioAdvice
@AudioAdvice Жыл бұрын
Wow, awesome setups! Yes, it looks like the Motion 20 would work good for surrounds depending on how your room is set up. Or you could look at the Motion 15 bookshelf speakers and stands if you need to place them in a tighter location. A good ML subwoofer would be here: www.audioadvice.com/martin-logan-dynamo-400d We'd recommend chatting or calling one of our home theater experts if you need more help! Thanks for sharing!

Can anyone explain how the bookshelf and both tower models all have the same 92db sensitivity? It seems unlikely that a 2 way monitor with a 5" mid-woofer could be that efficient. Regardless, I think this new design is gorgeous! Nice Job Martin Logan!

They look pretty clean and have an overall great Design, i like it. But sadly another passive concept so a no for me. There are many Active out there with AMTs. I get why Brands pushing out new Models nearly every few Years but be serious, they dont do it because they developed new Technologys or the older Series are bad, its to be stay relevant on the market. With nowadays DSP Control you can nearly tune your speaker how you want it and also the crossover & measurement / correction for the subwoofer is so easy, that a floorstanding model isnt necessary in most cases

@guiltynessness8926
@guiltynessness8926 Жыл бұрын
@SIQM If your reasoning for this is that you are crossing over to the subs at 80hz, that is still a lot of information going to the speakers. If you ever A/B the bookshelf to towers (with the crossover set to 80hz), you should hear a significant difference as 80hz is still low and is rolling off below that to the sub. A fun thing we do to demo is even disconnecting the sub while keeping the bass management to 80hz. This helps show even more the difference between the two. Granted models and brands will differ but a majority of cases, it's still very much worth it. That is all based on the end user, though, and if it's worth it to them. I'm just saying it's not unnecessary

I dont care if some parts come from china as much as I dont want anything made in china. I was going to spend $30,000 on Arendal speakers for my theater room, 6 bedrooms & office. but then I found out that all their speakers are made in china. I have multiple valid reasons that I wont go into in-order to keep this short.
