I have admired martinucci for more than 30 years but this shows he was the best tenor around in the whole world at that time he appeared at the metropolitan Opera House plenty of times but unfortunately Domingo was regarded as the Golden boy what a great shame he should have had worldwide Fame in the same way as Domingo

phil thompson His voice isn't as beautiful or stunning as Pavarotti or Carreras .. Domingo sang Mozart to Wagner..did he??

@@rationalsceptic7634 you have to compare like with like Pavarotti Careeras voices which are much lighter than Martinuccis I think it's a rule of thumb that the lighter the voice the more beautiful. None of the heavy tenors that can sing Calaf or Othello can be described as having beautiful voices eg del Monaco Giacommi that's just the physics of the voice When I think Martinucci defies that rule. Domingo is a special case because he had the advantage of looking like a movie star and undoubtedly is he is a very good actor and musician and these qualities came some way to compensation for his lack of vocal heft But he was totally mis cast in the dramatic repertoire and really short changed the audiences of the world

phil thompson Yes... Pavarotti and Carreras were lyrico Spinto Tenors...Pav was probably a Bel Canto... shouldnt have been singing Verdi...but great Singing to me.. isn't about fat or big voices alone...but phrasing and colour...many great Tenors don't have those gifts..they just shout because they have big voices!

phil thompson Domingo wasn't exactly a dramatic Tenor however..his voice was big and dark enough to sing Wagner..so he was a great Otello...he rates Kauffman as his Successor..so he short changed none!

Domingo was never by any stretch of the imagination a dramatic tenor you just have to listen to him singing a piece and then listen to del Monico Corelli.Guiseppe Giacomini Or even lesser known singers such as Lando Bartolini. Checcele Bonisoli All of them possess genuine Italian technique who can sing Calaf Manrico and all the big dramatic roles. Domingo is a product of the capitalist marketing system not Opera per se

Exaggeration. He is not "that" great......Pav was great. Voices of singers like Martinucci, coming from the Melocchi school, have a problem with resilience and beauty of tone plus they sing in "cover land" meaning they overdo covering.

Когда тенор поет и притом осмыслено,мы всегда одобряем,так как этого всегда мало,а орущих много и уповающихся своим криком,опуская и себя и публику,а главное и так опущенное Пение.Наш респект.
