The end of the duet is reminincent of the duet from Act One of La Forza, "Sospiro, luce ed anima," which of course was written later. I'm not hinting that Verdi copied anything. It's just that there are only so many notes and melodies to go around.

@lastofdmelocchians Whatever he is using, he is keeping his larynx low which leads to the described sound but also to some very throaty sounds above G. I share your Alagna-observation.

@art724 don't worry about hinting that Verdi copied Donizetti, he did and often. Sometimes copied, sometimes lifted, other times ripped off, and sometimes down right stole. From the Christians chorus in Poliuto alone (Celeste un'aura), Verdi got his entire triumphal scene in Aida.

I think since U know him BariTenoreDram, that U said ask him again. It's a well known fact that he DOES sing w/the Melocchi technique! Others may describe their very own techniques as otherwise, but, if U have an ear(like a few of us do)U can tell just by the sound that is being produced. I do have 2 say though, the main difference w/Martinucci is that many times when he sings his high notes(B flat, B & C)He does it the way Alfredo Kraus does. Not all the time, but enough 2B noticeable:( Ask him

Awesome 2hear a young Martinucci:) It's interesting what I'm hearing...I hear Alagna! Maybe if Alagna finds himself a Melocchi teacher he'll sound a lot like Martinucci! That's sayin' a lot by the way. So, is it a question of the instument or Vocal technique? If U listen 2Limarilli's 2CD set there R moments when his instrument by nature sounded like that of Tagliavini & Gigli. But after studyin' w/Melocchi, the voice became a force of nature! In the aria No, Pagliacci...he sounds like del Monaco
