I remember Marty Balin appearing on late sets with the Town Criers at the Drinking Gourd, a folk music place on Union Street in San Francisco. The Town Criers were pretty straight-up folk and Marty would appear and just wail, a great counterpoint. Yep, before the Jefferson Airplane.

I love how the band is in such close quarters, rather than the members 10' apart, or more, on a typical rock 'n roll stage.

What a monster talent Marty was. I regret for all the shows I have made it to I never got to see him live. At least we have video. RIP you talented giant!

sorry marty, but without grace's haunting counter-vocal, jorma's unique guitar work and jack's etheral bass lines, the song falls flat, as it should.

@@Budd1234 Having seen Jefferson Airplane so often in my lifetime I was never disappointed by their performances; their guitar playing and vocals were perfect! Marty Balin was the genius behind the lyrics. As for you Harry, since it took you this long for you to comment you are a total loser!!
