MATCHBOX Restoration 47a 1 Ton Trojan Van 1958

11 ай бұрынI've looked at this little model van a number of times over the last 12 months trying to consider as to wether it would be a good candidate for a makeover video, and thought should I or shouldn't I ? - This van is not much to look at. It is 'boxy' , plain and boring. When it has a scruffy paint job and is missing most of it's decals, it looks like it is only fit for the bin.
What were Matchbox thinking when they picked this vehicle to make in miniature over all of the other vehicle available at the time?
Well...... it didn't take me very long to realise as I was putting this thing back together, that Matchbox had made another fantastically beautiful model that will still be admired by many collectors to this day.
Part of it's charm is the fact that it is so simplistic in it's design. The rich red of it's main body, highlights the white lettering on it's sides, and the green tea leaf motifs on the doors add a qurirky splash of unexpected colour.
With a small amount of silver detailing on it's front and it's grey wheels with bright silver hubs, this model characterises all that was good with Matchbox Lesney designs of the day.
This one is was worth doing and is now definately a 'keeper'!

I'm watching your channel since the very beginning and I don't regret a single episode . It's definitely one of the best if not the best wee car restoration channel on internet. The commentary is great, funny bits with Kevin and hilarious newspaper details all the time. I love it. It helped me through the pandemic and it helps me nowadays when I need to relax. I used to restore matchbox cars when I was a kid and I do it nowadays on occasion so there is obviously strong connection. Thank you Marty!!!😊😊😊

G'day from Cuxhaven 👋 First the "Trojan" really looked like it had, over years, delivered tons of tea.... 😁 But a little TLC 🛠️🎨🖌️ can work wonders 😉 (And that a resto can take several days, I know only too well 🙄😁) When you have four-legged-mates 🐕🦺🐈 in the house, you always have to expect them to be curious and want to know what "Daddy" is doing.... (I work on models myself and have five sighthounds and two parrots. Now and again there is a nose or a beak "at work" 🤣) Ok, we don't have koalas at the North Sea, but it's still risky to leave the room when there's food on the table.... 😆 (As I said, five sighthounds) But about your work... Excellent, I can't say otherwise 🤩 It's always a pleasure to see a piece of scrap metal turned back into a gem for the display case. 🚗🔎👀👍🏼 What I also like... You're using self constructed tools. Thats a nice simple delivery van. Very nice restoration to a better than factory fresh condition. Sometimes i wish these old models would be modernised with windows and interieur and sold again...

I'm new to the hobby but I do like restoring the older Matchboxes? Nice to not have to worry about the condition of the windscreen/windows and they're mostly beautiful little models.

#47 was actually may first pick as a Matchbox model, along with #17 light green, the neighbor kid had the (now rare) light blue one!, I think I chose them because I thought they liked more like US vans! Nice job on #47!
