It's weird how when it comes to video games nowadays everything has to be a million hours long but when it comes to TV shows and YT videos ppl want those to be fast and digestible

I have at least 200 hours on both spider-man remastered and miles morales. If you want to speedrun the platinum, yeah you're probably going to get done with it really quick, but if you pace yourself, you're going to find a lot more longevity in it. (plus the webswinging in both previous games is great, and I come back to it all the time.)

Honestly speaking the general quality of a game determines it's strength rather than the time it takes to complete per say for example i bought ace combat 7 a few months ago and i still go back to it because its fun af despite the campaign being pretty short

At $70 people are expecting more for their money. Spider-Man 2 doesn't need to be 100 hours, but we know they're going to release dlc, and we know it won't be free. So when I hear 15-30 hours I start to wonder.

I don’t care if it's 30 hrs of main story and side content. I'm going to play Spider-Man 2 when it's out and enjoy it the way it is because I'm very excited to play it and explore the expanded New York, especially Queens, switch between Peter and Miles any time and see what their new swinging animations are like, unlock new suits for them, new gadgets, and all that amazing stuff that's going to be a lot of fun! I'm also lookin' forward to using the black suit and unlock new abilities for it! I'm playing the game at my own pace, unlocking different suits, new abilities, swinging around the expanded New York, using the web wings, and even do loop de loops anytime I want, and enjoy the story the way it will be.

Short game time for 2 players. If it was just peter, then ok but you now have two main characters to flesh out.

Yeah I used to be pissed about short games before I started working and having kids. I don't have that kind of time anymore so 30-40 hours is a good size game.

Some of the needlessly longer games of the modern era like AC Valhalla have given people brain rot. 30 hours should be the gold standard. If you’re going for 50 it should be an RPG. If you’re going for 100, then it should be one of the best video game experiences ever made, and rarely has anyone ever achieved a 100 hour game and made it fun to play at length. Games like Persona 5 are meant to be chipped away at for years. That’s why it’s 100 hours. Now tell me how Spider-Man 2, an action-adventure superhero romp needs to be the same length as Persona 5 or The Witcher 3. Makes zero sense. The shorter the game makes games like Spider-Man 2 memorable. Anything longer than 30 hours would feel horribly forced.

Maybe it’s just me but I never expected superhero games in general to be very long so the thought of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 being from 17-25 hrs when it comes to the main story and 30 hrs for total completion is more than satisfactory for me. I’m really stoked to get this game 🔥

i agree completely, mirror my thoughts exactly. only possible thing i could think to add are the people who have 1, MAYBE 2 hours to play, on the weekends, squeezed in between exhaustion and other duties. 30 hours to them is months of content in wonderful movie sized bites.

I don’t need the main story to be super long but more side content would be nice. The first game had a lot of side activities to do like challenges and Arkham knight style collectible missions. I kinda wish we had more in 2. I’ve already got 90% of the game complete which I enjoyed very much but I almost wanna put the game down so I Don’t finish it so soon.

15 hour is fully wrong. i finished the main story , collected all spiderbots, collected all photos and it finished in 11 hour and the story was so good. But 11 hours with sidd missions yes it is an issue

Something really weird ive seen about this game compared to alot of other superhero games or sequal games in general, is the overwhelming bad faith in a large portion of the community just saying how disappointing this game looks, and how all of the sudden PS4 and MM were pretty middle of the road. But then they dont provide almost any valid arguments (there are some good points, but thats like a needle in the haystack) and it just confuses me so much

I did not see that coming. 30 hours being too short is a bullshit criticism. I agree the first game was good but I had issues with it and I am a big fan. Games like Starfield, Fallout 4, Witcher 3 were very long games. RE3 remake was too short but so was the original but 30 hours is not a freaking DLC. No one bitched how short the Rachet and Clank games and they were a blast. It is so disingenuous people are bitching about the length of this game when the first game lists at 17 - 35 hours. It is too many people that dont see joy. I heard someone complain the other day about the cost of Spider-Man 2 and all I could think was, “Did you just get your PS5?” Games have been that expensive since the PS5 came out. It’s a weird flex people are doing which shows they dont know the history of video games and worse they dont wish to learn but here we are.

Bruh, I did every side mission and bases when they popped up before moving onto the next main story mission. Found all spider bots and all collectibles and beat the game at 77 hours. How is that not long enough? First playthrough was on Spectacular too. Not too sure what to say. Got the platinum trophy without any problems

People that complain about short length either have way too much free time, or they don't replay their games. What good is a 100 hour game that I'll never play again because it took too long to finish and felt like a chore to play through? I'd rather invest my money in a game I'll enjoy and that in the future I'll crave to play again and again. And let's not forget about the quality of the game too. 30 hours of actual, meaningful content sound much better than a game that has 100 hours worth of content but 70 of those are just running all over the map picking up collectibles (looking at you Ubisoft).

For real, the obsession with game length is crazy. So many rpgs especially are way too long, I'd much rather play a 30 hour game that keeps the pacing up and respects my time as an adult with a life, than play something that's 100 hours long that I'll probably get bored of because I'd need months to finish it

When I buy a new Spider-Man game that comes out once every 4 years like the Olympics and they sometimes only make 1-2 Spider-Man games PER SYSTEM, so you know after you play 2 games on the PS5 the next time you’ll be playing is gonna be on a extremely rare and expensive PS6 whenever that comes out.. forcing us to actually treat these games not like Spider-Man anymore but like the Avengers, you see if Spider-Man came out 5-6 times per console generation like he did for PS1 and PS2 then gamers wouldn’t have as high of expectations. But when we know Song refuses to make in a whole generation of console more than 1-2 new spiderman games then we have the highest highest expectations than we would if they released spin off spiderman games in between like “Web of Shadows” or “Friend or Foe”, if they kept doing that we would keep our expectations reasonable. But when you barely release and are pure greatness like Spider-Man on PS5 then we expect Avengers level of fun and action and storytelling.. we don’t want to keep buying brand new $1,000 systems to keep playing more of the new Spider-Man Story, we want to have 3-4 games per system to enjoy the universe, we as gamers shouldn’t be fiends for Spider-Man months and months in advance like we have been the past couple games. So if you don’t want our expectations and standards set to the highest setting don’t release every couple years and claim “GOTY” every single time you release, it’s no wonder why we expect more than usual. Also when I start any game not just Spider-Man I do truly expect Avengers Level type of story or gameplay considering how much I spend on the games, and games like “Ghost of Tsushima”, “God Of War Ragnarok”, “Eldin Ring”. All games that came out on PS5 with 2-3x minimum longer storylines than any new Spider-Man game to release, and they have the Quality to keep it entertaining throughout the whole game with budgets less than Sony’s Spiderman Budget.. so the notion that we don’t deserve greatness is stupid. We paid thousands and waited years, give us the greatness now, or end up falling off like other great great video game series that took too long in between to release so loyal fans got tired and left, *Cough Cough GTA 5-6 *Cough Cough. 🔥💯💯

this is how I felt about Spiderman ps4 and miles Morales. I had wayyyy more fun in miles Morales as it was jam packed. Spiderman ps4 was super strung out for me. hope Spiderman 2 comes out to be gold. with the death of batman Arkham this is the closest I can get

I've been crazy about the Mass Effect trilogy again (scifi rpg), and im on the 2nd game. ive been playing it for a week, right? and guess what, i've got about 25hrs in it - from a WEEK's worth of playing. it's insane how some can play the same games for 100s of hours in such short amounts of time

I don't care about game length I care about the quality of Content. I still play Batman arkham city and Asylum more than 10 years later.

I also think a lot of people expect every game that comes out nowadays to be revolutionary/reinvent the wheel, for GOW 18 I saw people saying it looked and played like a PS2 game, and the same for the previous Spider-Man games as well as this one saying they look like PS3 games, I always keep my expectations at a 6-7/10 so games can always exceed them for me plus this'll take me at least 2 weeks to get through as growing up being outdoorsy, it's hard to play a game for more than 45 minutes once a day (twice if sick/bad weather out), only going more if there are long cutscenes that'll eat up 75-85 percent of that time

It took me 8 hours for the main campaign....parry mechanics was so op i didn't bother to get rare tech for some upgrades. My level was 35 when the curtains fell....but i enjoyed each second....amazing story!!! I was fucking hooked

Guess people forgot that spider-man 1 was roughly 35 hours long with all its DLC. What people don’t realize, is normal people aren’t gonna finish the game in 30 hours. We work, hopefully socialize, and some just don’t rush the game, web swinging around, fighting random crime as spider-man. The story is just a massive bonus.

There are certain games that having 100+ hours of gameplay is the thing. Its not unreasonable to want a big name game to have a benchmark of at least 50-100 hours for its core game play. A lot of that can be through side quests and exploration. Not sure how much extra sidequests or exploration this game will have, I am just looking into getting it now, so its hard to tell. But 15-30 hours is very short for that price. The thing is though, it looks really really good, so its hard to really put a $ on if its worth the high quality to short gameplay hours. But to look at it in one way, I go out and drink with friends sometimes. I pay $15-$30 for my Uber (two ways), and I can wrack up a $30-$50 bar tab very easily, then if I get taco bell on the way home, we all know we eat $5-10 worth of Taco Bell but when you are buzzed you might order $20 worth, hahahaha. So in reality, that is a night out, and usually I don't get to leap from building to building on my spidey webs while fighting bad guys when I go out drinking. Just looking over the games that I do buy that end up being 100+ hours, some even into the 1000+ hours, its usually not a story based action game. Its either a strategy game like Stelaris or Civilization, its a sports game like Madden, or its a FPS game like CoD that gets those insane hours. Last story based game that got me over 100 hours was BG3. A true gem is games like Project Zomboid and Valheim that cost less than $20 and I was able to sink hundreds of hours into for practically free!

Anything more than 30 hours tends to lose my interest quickly. Elden Ring being one of those, they had one epic boss and a bunch of mid to bad enemies that were either repetitive or bland. I’d rather have a short game with fun gameplay and great story.

"How much time do you have"?!? First of all, who forced you to finish a game during a single day? By that logic you shouldn't have time for the next game once you finish this particular game? I played witcher 3 for hundreds of hours, but moderately during days i had spare time, never once was i bored, it was a masterpiece in every area. Imagine expecting less from a sequel that are supposed to be bigger and better? Do you even realize that the first game technically even had more content for the same price tag when the retail price was at 60 bucks back in 2018? At 70 dollars you got the deluxe edition which included all three story dlcs , which means 7+ hours of additional content. And the irony is the fact that Sony literally used that excuse for their price hike, to provide "more content" when in fact we are getting less these days by paying more. The sequel of Arkham asylum, Arkham city literally offered twice as much content than the first one and was better and expanded in every metric, even gameplay wise. Why do you people have such low standards and are easily satisfied with everything these corporations spew out these days? And anyone who dares criticizing that reality is labeled by fanboys as "hate"? A perfect example of modern consumers and gamers in a nutshell 🤦‍♂Hence why it's at this state it is. That's how microtransactions literally kickstarted to the current state it is, because people accepted it for some time while the price was low. Mark my words, in the next generation they will increase the retail price to 100 dollars and provide even less content in the same way Sony recently also increased the PS plus subscription by 30 percent by basically offering nothing substantial, because you modern consumers and "supposed" gamers are eating it up like candy.

I want it to be more like the god of war games. They have a 25-30 hour story and 50-60 hours of completion. 15hrs for a story is incredibly short.

I learned my lesson on "Quality over quantity" video gaming with the Batman: Arkham games. Arkham City always comes so, so close to being a full 10/10 video game, my only detracting points coming in at "Too many Riddler Trophies/Riddler side mission too long to complete". I feel like that game's length is doubled or tripled alone if you want to play it for completion's sake and get through of all Nigma's side mission on top of the main story. I almost feel as a result that City would've been better off without Riddler's side mission if not for the fact he's one of my favorite Batman villains and characters. Just because a game is "long" doesn't make it good. Sometimes just getting to the point of any story or gameplay is enough. These kids today have no idea now a days about "too much of a good thing".

Those who think Spider-Man 2 (which is the same length as the first game) is too short, than I HEAVILY disagree, cuz i decided to look at my trophy life for Spidey 1, and all i needed to do was beat the game on Ultimate difficulty, so i made a NG+ file and i just blasted through the game as fast as i could, skipping all the cutscenes I could, ignoring all the side missions and collectables, and it still felt like it took FOREVER to do. So playing Spidey 2, without skipping stuff, getting all the collectables, all the upgrades, suits, side quests, etc, thats a massive chunk of time

Game is just as long as the first one. As long as it respects your time and that 17- 20 hrs for the main story is a really good 17-20 hrs. I will be satisfied. My only small worry is that now that we play as both Miles and Peter, that each Spider-mans role in the story feels complete.

I agree, quality over quantity. Stuff doesn't need to be that long. I go back and fourth between 5-10 games usually, because if I don't I'll get bored with a game over played.

9 times out of 10 any "controversy" is just BS people push so they can have clickbait articles or video titles, don't have to look far to see someone somewhere unhappy with something. Point is this won't matter to most people, it's kinda how every year people say CoD is dead yet it sells like it's the last video game to ever be made.

Spider-Man PS4 was the first game I bought with my own money and I researched the heck out of it to make sure I was one-hundred-percent certain about my purchase same with Miles Morales and with Assassin's Creed Mirage it can be long or I can be really short but if after completing the game or at least getting a couple hours into it and I'm getting a good experience then I see it is worth the money that was spent but that's just me

15-30 hours is fine. I find it harder to complete games these days because of their length. I'm currently playing Phantom Liberty, Starfield, and Gotham Knights. But I finished the RE4 DLC in two nights, which is great. I've missed recent games like MK1 and Lies of P because I haven't had the time. Now there's Mirage. Spiderman 2 and Alan Wake 2 at the end of the month. And others... It's crazy right now.

I don't think 30 hours is too short it's a pretty decent time for the game, but I wouldn't have minded if the game was a little longer, maybe 35 or 40 hours. But that's just because I would like to see more of Insomniac's version of this world and Spider-Man in general (As long as it doesn't sacrifice the quality of the game that is). Getting to see more things and enjoy more stories and character development would be great. Who knows, Spider-Man 2 is likely going to have DLC and that could stretch the playtime to an extra 10 or so hours, maybe more.

I’ve 100% the game on the hardest difficulty you unlock after being the story the first time. This was like 3 or 4 days ago. Man, I just wish there was more to do now. I hope they have DLC.

I don’t get the gripes lol. 20 hours for main story and 30 hours for a platinum is perfect; it’s exactly what it was in the first game. It doesn’t need to be forced to be longer. As long as it is full force quality content, I’m more than ok with it. Every mission and side mission being quality is more important than just how much content is in the game. The first game could have been shorter without the MJ and Miles missions. This isn’t an RPG it’s an action game. DMC5 was 15 hours long lol, and it’s heralded as the best action game of all time.

I believe some people just want more of the game. Most times when you beat a short game that you really like you just want more of it. Most times you just waiting for the sequel to come out.

The problem against the length arguments are in the extreme. I think grinding through the story in a weekend is definitely a problem. But in reality, most will finish in a week (proven) and i think everyone that has it will be done and put it aside come the new year

In the current video game landscape we live in were most games want to have you in its world for 50 80 to 100 hours minimum, something like Spider man 2 not wanting to waste your time but having you be the one to put in all those hours is really a spectacular move by Insomniac.

I feel like a lot of the criticisms made with Spider-Man two aren’t valid mainly because the majority of criticisms that come for Spider-Man two aren’t criticisms for Spider-Man two in particular, but they are criticisms for PlayStation as a whole, and how they make their games sequels to be more specific, but currently it’s growing into an issue where people all of a sudden have problems about how PlayStation makes their games and how sequels are supposed to be that in my opinion is not a valid criticism. Ever since insomniac revealed Spider-Man 2 2 weeks ago and it’s open world trailer people all of a sudden have had issues about how PlayStation operates when they’re making their games… fine I understand that the formula eventually might get old but that alone is not a good criticism if people want changes so bad and if they have a problem so bad about the way PlayStation makes her games then they should go and former company and make a console their selves. I’m sorry but if a game takes longer to complete then living a 24 hour day then you aren’t allowed to call it too short, I finished the first game to 100% at 33 hours & when adding the DLC it was brought up to 43 hours, that’s a good size meaty game

Yeah man I don't have time for 100 hour experiences. I actually get excited when I see that a game can be completed in around 20 hours, because I don't beat a lot of games. They're too long and there are too many games to play. Having a job and young kids doesn't make finding time easier. People complaining about the length of a game before playing it is insane to me. Experience it then judge.

I beat the game in 18 hours. I got plat in 27 hours. When yall are done simping for the new spiderman, maybe stop and think. 27 hours is a little more than 3 and a half shifts at a 9-5. 3 and a half shifts. In comparison, Elden Ring was 60$, 10$ less, and took me 79 hours to beat, 500 hours to 100%. BG3 took me 130 hours to beat that can be replayed. Tears of the Kingdom took me 40 hours to beat. I ENJOYED SPIDERMAN 2, but the fact that I can 100% in less than a week, is why people are slightly upset. They could have added more content. You know what's not a good faith argument? "Well I don't have time to put all these hours in a game" but then you say "I like a variety of games". Not everyone has the income to afford fifty 20 hour games. The fact that spiderman 2 is a reskin of the first one, with the same map, similar game mechanics, and only takes 30 hours to 100% for 70$ is crazy WHEN you compare it to a game like Elden Ring (which you absolutely CAN conpare). I think ether we need to recognize that spiderman 2 is too expensive for what it is OR that games like Elden Ring or God of War need to be more expensive to represent value.

The first game was about the same. But.., has such great replay value. I’ve played the story multiple times on different difficulty levels and in different ways. Also love just being in the world and messing around. I e put easily more than 200 hours into the 2018 game. I have no doubt I would do the same in this game.

I remember when some games were only 8 hours long and I could understand some people wanting a bit more as they often didn't have other modes and weren't as replayable. However, each year, it seems like the expectations for more and more content has gotten way out of hand. When I look at these kinds of comments, I see people extremely addicted to gaming that they can't even realize it. These are the same people who blow through long games in a week while playing over 5-8 hours a day and wonder why there aren't more games. I think 17-20 hours for a game is more than acceptable. People bitch and moan about games taking too long to make and say they are dead and soulless, but when you ask for 50+ hours of content.... Something usually has to be sacrificed unless they have the time and resources to do everything well like in BG3 (I even hear that has issues in the last act). The idea of every game needing to be an everything, forever game isn't sustainable. I get not every game can also be super short either, but I do think games can be paced a lot better. Gamers are a lot more spoiled than any time in history for content. Back in the 90's to early 2000's, we didn't get free to play games to fill in time between releases. Even popular RPGs like Chrono Trigger was about 20 hours, and it was fine. Most games were very short. I still always had something to play, and I used to play obsessively.
