I think the main goal of this version is to introduce new players to the Zombicide system. That’s exactly what happened to me. I found this on clearance at Barnes and Noble and bought it. Two games in, and I was hooked. Right away I spent birthday money on Undead or Alive and one expansion. I’m hoping to buy more expansions in the future, but most are not available at reasonable prices. But I’ll hold on to this version for some quick solo or family fun game nights!

I'm contemplating getting into Zombies a little. Have they come out with any expansions for this game? Will the upcoming DCeased cheap version be able to be combined with it in some type of crossover? I'm imagine not officially, but perhaps with homebrew??

Since DCeased is only hero mode and compatible with MZ hero mode the two lite boxes will absolutely be compatible. That’s my plan I didn’t back either KS. But I’ve got this and 4 heroes I wanted to play with off of EBay and going to grab the DCeased retail lite box and probably a spattering of heroes from that KS and call my experience complete.

I actually love that they reduced this down to 4 player. To me, this makes this game much friendlier to play and manage solo. Trying to keep track of all six characters in Invader or second edition just leaves room for error - accidentally forgetting abilities or items. Four characters are simpler to keep track of. Also, I can much more readily get 3 friends over for a game night than 5, making it easier to table this game. I was going to back the KS until I saw what they were doing with shipping, and now I’m glad. I hope this game sells a bajillion copies and teaches CMON a lesson about scaling back to more manageable game sizes.

It seems like this game costs $50 now instead of $35. Considering that X-Men Resistance is $130, it’s a tougher decision which one to get since the price difference isn’t as big…

the thing with the dice I disagree, there are skills that make you roll the number of dice that are equal to the number of enemys, so if there are 12 enemys in your square you need to roll 12 dices, that's simple, just roll 2x the 6 dice, don't see a point to the game give us 12 dices just for that, great video, just wanted to make up that point.

Hmm, but why not provide 12 dice? They are one of the cheapest components in the box. What harm could providing more bring players? Worst case you get two sets of 6 on each side of the table so people don't have to reach for them constantly.

Most of us who are gamers have 6-sided dice out the wazoo! The dice included in the game are just D6s with a thematic 1. Easy to add more dice when needed.

Good stuff. I backed this one all-in + some extra sentinels. It was more expensive than my Marvel United all in, and that was 2 campaigns! Ironically, I think Marvel United is the better game (I think it's better than the Zombicide system in general). Though I guess it depends on what you're in the mood for; a light, strategic euro(ish) game with tight decisions (MU) vs an ameritrash dice chucking, high spectacle romp (MZ).

So wait, the crosswalks are zones themselves? I played as if they were just wide barriers to other zones.

Notwithstanding the "space issue" it seems like this would work well for people who already own Zombicide and can replace the standees with zombie minis.

I didn't get into it that deep but most certainly! A large portion of us have so many zombie minis we don't know what to do with them all. I could easily have busted out my Rue Morgue copy and just replaced them if I wanted to. That's certainly possible!

I'm really happy they came out with this version despite being a backer. It makes the game much more accessible for most people. I wish we had some idea of what expansions might be though. It's completely off cadence with the campaign. As we saw with Marvel United - most content never made it here to retail.

I recently posted an idea about this on the geek page. SInce 10 minis and standees are feasible; I'd propose either an expansion or a separate set that is the flipped versions of same minis shown here (I.E. 6 zombies, 4 heroes). I could easily see this flying as either a lite intro version to the zombie heroes mode, with human standess, or perhaps a dr. strange themed box with multiverse mechanics, hence the mirrored figs. Shoot, even have the tiles be multiverse themed, something. Variety on a budget, that keeps new fans and vets interested. Just my two cents

Something else that was presented on the geek against an expansion/set like this; licensing limitations. I didn't think about the possibility that certain characters (Spiderman, in the geek example, and Black Panther, just from looking at all expansions/sets being made currently available) don't have zombie alternatives due to licensing possibly. Maybe as an alternative to the figures being a straight mirror flip, have 1 zombie fig that's exclusive, and one Hero fig that's also exclusive. Who the exclusives would be? No clue

The fact that it is this cheap, is balanced for 4 players (which mean at 2p controlling 2 characters) and I think quicker to play make it very tempting compared to the bloated versions. It is a light game after all and for me that make it not something I would invest hundreds into. Some extra heroes/zombies would be cool probably or getting the zombie mode too.

With how long it took Spinmaster to release any expansions for Marvel United I wouldn’t hold my breath for them. A positive though is how accessible this will make it for new people to the hobby as well as those wanting a more travel version of Zombicide to acquire.

I went all in on the KS plus I bought this. I NEVER do two wave shipping so this was a nice surprise. I got this to hold me over until my pledge is delivered and also as something compact to take on vacations.

Think I'll adopt the Undead or Alive rule for ZBP. 1 noise token placed where sound was generated last.

With 4 Abomination-like creatures this actually has way more variety than a normal Zombicide Retail Box. My Invader copy has 1 Abomination. Also only has 6 dice, and after 1 or 2 rounds you also have seen all the weapons. Insert even seems better than in those boxes and the price is more than halved from MSRP. Bystanders don't even exist in other core boxes, so this still has more variety there. So, what I'm saying is that pretty much all the criticisms made also apply to all the other core boxes and only are a draw-back if you compare this to a Zombicide Kickstarter Copy for 10 times the price. Seems like a really great package; weird to see something like this from CMON! Got my Invader for like 50 bucks and would go for that again, the minis are well worth the small uptick in price, but still, great deal!

We played two gameplays the tutorial and the first mission and feel that the limited amount of aboms could get boring and less thematic, example invading Os Corp in the 3rd mission with no Green Goblin, or similar with later missions. Also once you figure out the gimmick of the abom they don't pose as much a threat and could get boring too.

I couldn't buy this since I live in Asia, but I have already received the KS Core Game from the first wave. The good news is, from what I was told from people who the Hero Resistance, is that all items there are compatible with the KS edition, so people that didn't backed the X-Men Resistance will be able to play the Hero version. Also the problem with the variety and dice problem will be solved and the KS rulebook also includes some extra missions for the Hero Mode. As for the experience of the KS, I tend to agree with the criticism on the bystanders but not with the traits. Game wise and feel of the game they fit in really good, at least in the Zombie Hero Mode.

As you say- the price point! Given it is an IP game with miniatures, I feel it would have to suck unbelievably for me to feel justified criticizing it at that price. Even if the variety is lacking, this appears to be a 'beer and pretzels game' that will provide a fair amount of fun and might be cheaper than the beer and pretzels you purchase to accompany it!

I personally think traits are much better. Digging for items and not really using most of them was one of my least favorite parts of zombicide. I love how powerful the traits are and love the combos. There are 15 different traits, two copies each. That means that each ability can only by used twice per game.

That was one of our minuses as well in our first impressions, the limit of 2 of each made it hard to get certain ones, and the luck of the draw made it sometimes a wasted action, in our live playthrough the person that didn't need healing "hulk" got the healing trait, and the person that didn't need -1 toughness "panther" got both of them in the same game. Wish their was a way to target the traits so that doesn't happen, or even a way to trade them so it's not wasted.

I'm all in minus Galactus on the kickstarter, and I got this just to hold me over, plus unique Hero sculpts, plus an extra set of dice for my big game when it arrives. I think it's more than worth it.

We found it a good jumping in since we had never played Zombicide, so gives us a chance to learn the mechanics with a more limited character and abomination pool so when we get the rest we will have an easier time with them

Huh? How is this in any way clickbait? The title is as straight forward as it gets: "Marvel Zombies: Heroes' Resistance Review!" and the thumbnail is a picture of the game, and a question I feel many are asking that I directly answer within just the first few minutes of a long and detailed review.
