Brainjock That’s a big assumption. She is not acting like a victim. She is a victim. The abuse damaged her body. Fact, her performance dropped after she joined the Oregon Project. Nike’s only defense is saying it took her too long to speak out. They also refuse to have it investigated by an outside party. Nike sure looks guilty. Nike lost the business of our entire family. 👋

@Brainjock If you actually did some research you would realize that her coach pushed her and wanted her to start taking birth control pills and diuretics simply to loose weight. So yes they are one and the same. On top of that it's funny that your more willing to defend a guy who clearly has a flawed character since he is serving time for his actions than a girl was clearly taken advantage and has done no harm to anyone, other than to your ego and sensitivity.
@AshleyMarone
@AshleyMarone 3 жыл бұрын
I hope everyone here realizes that for Mary's height, 114lbs was underweight and no runner should need to be underweight to train properly. I understand many runners are thin, but giving them diuretics to drop weight especially when she is still hormonally vulnerable is abuse. She was a freshman in college when she went to train with them I believe. You are still hormonally and psychologically developing at 18/19 years old. Being underweight can highly affect that development.
@chrissy7635

@Sam Yaza perhaps you should look back in that mirror to when you were 18 or 19 and say that again. How many GIRLS that age don't know or look up to the ADULTS that are training them or teaching them? If your parents did things like this to you at that age, what would you have done?

I applaud Mary Cain’s courage after having suffered through, imho, narcissistic abuse. I could be wrong of course but however you look at it, it was absolute abuse. I’m sure this experience has changed her forever but luckily she seems to have blossomed into a beautiful and well-adjusted young adult. To parents of young athletes, please keep a vigilant eye on your babies, listen to your gut feeling, to your child, never give total control over to a coach/trainer and please, when your daughter stops having a period, let the alarm bells go off.

@matthewmatthew3955

There is without a doubt an optimal weight for every athlete in almost every sport. That weight can and will change depending on your height weight and body composition. Hypothetically your could have two female sprinters both of whom are 5 foot 10 inches and weigh 140 lbs. One of them could benefit from gaining 6 lbs of lean mass while the other benefits from dropping down to 128. Everyone had a unique frame that can experimented with to find there optimal body composition for their specific sport. She is right. There is not much science because everyone is very unique. . a prime example is mma weight classes. Some athletes perform better leaner while some perform better with more muscle mass or a little higher body fat. It's all about strength and cardio payouts or trade offs. Her argument is ridiculous
@matthewmatthew3955
@matthewmatthew3955 4 жыл бұрын
@Foolish Demon my argument is simple in my opinion and that is the quality of the composition dictates the quality of training. If a highschool coach took a fourteen years old and publicly told her she needs to lose weight in front of her peers I would have a problem with it. But this girls an Olympic hopeful in her twenty's. I'm sorry but if is what it is. And another point is this. If your times were better weighing 123 then your coach would want you to weigh 123. The fact that your world renowned running coach wanted you to weigh 114 or 116 means that from a performing standpoint you were at your fastest weighing around 115. And your body broke down and it's unfortunate but as I said before. Your not a child trying to win a regional track meet. You were literally hand picked to join a team full of Olympic hopefuls.
@a.c.f.2423
@a.c.f.2423 4 жыл бұрын
@Foolish Demon Beyond the matter(which is considerable) of testosterone, I think any coach(man or woman) who has ever trained both men and women will tell you that mentally there's a difference in the ability to focus, and that means during drills they have to be on the female athletes case all the time to avoid them getting distracted and slacking off, it sounds funny but it's true, you have to push women more than men, and it's part of the reason why men prefer to train male athletes, it's less stress supervising their training because they are more self-motivated.

I’m stuck in a situation. Should I continue supporting Nike, or support Mary Cain for her crisis, and act. In the beginning the year 1993 I spoke with Professional baseball Athlete Who’s name is not Micheal Jordan, but is Known as Micheal Jordan on the phone. Phones were giant bricks at the time. I told him to reach out to Nike, and to become a professional Basketball athlete because people were demaining him on National Television. He helped change Nike shoes from only a piece of fabric, and what’s known as the sole of the shoe. They were very terrible shoes. I told him high school students had science class, and could be hurt because it was only fabric. He decided to become a basketball athlete, and shoes, basketball, and Micheal’s life changed forever. I was able to call him because of Micheal Fossum, or my cousin the Purple Heart of Valor recipient. I do not support mistreatment of Woman, and do believe maternity leave should exist. Black lives matter happened, and I just want everyone to consider what I’am typing here. Change is possible in all of us. Do what you believe is right regardless of the circumstances.

Why have so many other women succeeded in that program? Is Mary the first and only female that was abused in this way? Have other women in the program come out against the Oregon Project for this emotional and physical abuse? Could it be that Cain was simply not as talented/successful as others and is looking for someone or something to blame? No accusations here, just questions.

j steez equality isn’t about forcing people to talk about issues irrelevant to their circumstances for the sake of political correctness. She never said anything about it being exclusive to women. Starving oneself to destroy valuable muscle mass to achieve a specific weight without considering muscle fat ratios is objectively bad.

Are you stupid? We can't have the same standards for men and women, their bodies work differently. Women can't have less than 13% bodyfat because their body will stop function, while men can go as low as 5% or even less and still function fine. This is about how MALE coaches wanted a young girl to lose a lot of weight to "perform better", which doesn't work for girls unless they do have extra weight holding them back, but most runners don't. Loosing weight to perform better as a man might make sense, but it doesn't for women and clearly guys don't know that which is a disgrace.

Does she know that in Europe, Football Clubs weigh their athletes weekly or daily and if they are a few hundred grams above their ideal weight(stipulated by.... the coaching staff) they get fined and in some cases they are sent home or let go from their contracts? And yes, all of us have an ideal "competitive weight", I'm reasonably fine at 181 pounds for everyday stuff, but athletically I know I'm better between 154 and 159 pounds, it's what works best for my body. I could be mistaken and she might have been a victim of some "evil" coach, but she comes across as a crybaby who couldn't handle the pressure that athletes are under at top level when being led by top notch coaches. And LOTS of women lose their period in sports, and some choose to accept it during their athletic careers and eventually go back to normal once they are done with sports, while others just can't deal with it psychologically. I think she's just mentally weak and doesn't realize she's the "oddity" because she wont' accept the stress while other girls will. In Europe this would hardly be a story.

André Carreira de Figueiredo but loosing your period is very unhealthy and will lead to osteoporosis if you’ve lost it for a while
@aurielle112
@aurielle112 4 жыл бұрын
WHY is the world so misinformed? It's extremely important for women to have their periods. Not having period = extremely unhealthy. It means your body isn't producing the necessary hormones for fertility AND growth, which also means your bones cannot heal as well and your bone density will decrease. Women without periods in the long-term are subjecting themselves to early-onset osteoporosis. Just because European football clubs threaten their athletes like that doesn't make it OK. This is toxic enforcement & a terrible focus (performance should be the focus. Weight is a very unreliable metric). This kind of thinking is what leads to eating disorders.
