I really like Lucy. She took it on the chin with the criticism, even whilst quite depressed, and I wish her every success. Nice lady!

Having bought vintage clothes since my teens (before it was fashionable and expensive) because I couldn't get dramatic and interesting clothes with beautiful fabrics and techniques and embroideries, beadwork, etc, on any kind of budget - at the time of this programme I'd have been the perfect customer for this shop. However, the owner just didn't have the taste to supply or present that. Even the end style shop didn't present what people would want to buy whether "straight" or "dramatic" or the many shades in-between. The young designers room seemed the best but it wasn't comfortable to see some of the designers being laughed at during the interview process.

At the end of that opening night they'd only taken "nearly £500". That would be between 1 and 15 items? Not much.

Sadly the Channel 4 shows get deleted / blocked whenever they get uploaded here! I did have them but only one remains on the channel (Roman Road); but blocked in and around the UK. I'm not sure why they don't make it available on their own services if they disallow anyone else from hosting!

@@televisionwatcher If Channel 4 is not going to make the shows available on their streaming service then they should just let people like yourself to upload them. Thanks so much for the episodes that you have made available. It's been great seeing them again. I forgot just how amazing @maryportas is. She is an inspiration. All business owners and prospective owners should study these episodes. I wonder if Mary ever does training events? They would be worth their weight in gold! ❤️❤️🤭🤭🥇🥇🙌🙌🌈🌈❤️❤️

She's a costume designer and illustrator now, and quite a good one - she's won two awards and taught illustration at a university for several years!

It's cold country ! UK produce grate quality wool tweed . You need to sell practical cloth for cold and rain

We do have 4 entire seasons on the UK. It's not always cold.

The UK is actually a very warm country for the meridian they’re on. They ought to be as cold as Siberia and Canada but they’re no where near because of the Gulf Stream and the fact they a thin island.

Portas is so unstylish, I weep to look at her! She has the nerve to sanitise a wonderfully eclectic shop and crush poor Lucy's creative eccentricity. Having said that, I do feel Lucy is just a posh-but-bland dresser herself and so cannot inspire the potential buyers who would appreciate her shop. As for those four 'professional' Leeds' birds - they were strictly NOT her target buyers: more Trinny and Susannah (weeping again here). They are typical 'safe' office types who are just part of the furniture...She needs to attract the Angel Adorees and Amy Winehouses of this world!!!!
