I am so happy for them. Becky really knows what she is doing. My eyes got teary.

Max was a well-meaning guy but was so clearly the main problem in this business. Becky needed to get rid, she'd have been better off on her own or investing in a trained manager.

Can’t take advice, regards her opinion as better than everyone else’s, unteachable, everything becomes a power struggle … sounds like a narcissist to me. And Neil looks like the kind of guy who has been emasculated by his controlling mother. And, absolutely Angela took it personally! Narcissists ALWAYS take it as a personal attack if you expose their weaknesses, no matter how kindly or tactfully you try to do so.

Mary - I don't know if you'll ever read these comments, but I just want you to know how touched I am by these episodes, and thank you for what you are doing for everyone. I regularly shop in charity shops, I have my whole life for both ethical and financial reasons. I used to love finding old vintage clothing, but these days there is so much more tat, I'm hoping your programmes will inspire people who do have better quality clothing to donate it (not dump it!) because it really benefits us all and is so simple to do. It is so fun to discover great things in charity shops and it really opens fashion through the eras and styles, so we can be really creative, I hope this movement inspires greater freedom of expression too. I also hope people will realise the human rights abuses and environmental cost of fast fashion and cheap clothing.

Found a local Wordpress blog: so this episode was filmed in Feb 2010. Tony changed the shopfront a few times after that. The shop closed in 2013, then demolished in 2014 to be replaced by Tesco Express. Tony moved his shop in October 2013 to another town (I think with the same staff?) but I lost the trail after that so not sure.

Just read that they closed a few years later, that's absolutely devastating, I've never wanted a business to succeed as much as this 😢 I hope they went on to have happy lives in whatever they did next, what a lovely bunch of people ❤

Sad to read that the transformed shop only traded for a further two years,ceased trading in may 2012. I wonder what became of the owners.

It's like a Catherine Tate comedy sketch when the shop owner starts ripping the larger women to pieces. Someone needs a filter 🤣🤣🤣

Can't find them anywhere online under either "Homeboy" or "Seen", so I assume they've gone by now 😕 Was a number of years ago mind. Enjoyed the nostalgia but also made me a bit sad 🥲

I imagine that when this show aired, any customers she did have would not have stepped through the door again after hearing the things she said. Even though her attitude had changed by the end, I think her shop was doomed within 5 minutes of this programme, I don't think any amount of change in the world could have helped her after that

So so many of these business make over shows disclose a talented woman tied to a hapless man who is more of a hindrance to her than anything. They then see Mary/Alex as a threat.
@simonmoore23803 ай бұрын
I love the way he dismisses the ideas for improving the business. But clearly it’s not working so what exactly does he think IS the problem? Ah…of course….”the customer is wrong”. He is a classic example of someone who tries to tell his customer what they “ought to want” - the most simple recipe for failure. The guys a complete twonk.

What is crazy is that ppl don't understand the INSANE opportunities they're getting! To go to London Fashion Week as a boutique and pitch your shop directly to the national press is something most fashion SMEs would KILL for! 😲😲😲

Its so funny when that blonde girl said she feels like she's going to be stood on a street corner, and the shoes are Barbie shoes - because that's the impression you would get if you saw her with that big fake blonde hair! He must have looked at her and thought blonde Barbie hooker! She was giving off those vibes anyway.

when Mary goes back four weeks later, why aren't they in those nice white uniforms? And I can spot lots of manky fruit and veg - those brown bananas! And the tomatoes didn't look very fresh! I can't believe they blamed Mary for them closing down. Mary turned the place around and it looked 100 times better. They must have gone back to their old ways and run the place down again.

Ridiculous! She goes down there to try and help a town that looks like a shithole, and she just gets treated like dirt and they don't want to know!

The biggest problem here is that no matter how much you dress up this shop, it's surrounded by filth and scummy run-down common as muck trash establishments. Nobody wants to wade through manure even if they can pick a flower after doing so. I'd be surprised if this place lasted very long.

Back again watching this in 2024. Now my takeaway is this. The 43-year-old woman in the fashion shoot looks 10 years older than that. I'm 38 now. I feel like if I am styling myself like that in 5 years' time, I better just give up.
@hamelindabell12223 ай бұрын
I was thinking the same about the 43 year old...she looked like a well kept woman in her mid 50s.

It’s amazing how much social media has changed our perception of dressing for one’s age and ageing isn’t it? But that’s what fashion is I guess. Nowadays most 20 year old girls are happy in high-waisted mom jeans that do nothing for their bum and baggy hoodies, especially if they’re into fashion. And the 40-something woman certainly no longer thinks she’s middle aged. I’m a 41-year-old male this year and I still wear t shirts with childish graphics on them, let alone ‘proper’ gentlemen’s shoes.

All she wanted was a new floor.My friend owns a tearoom, and all the food is made by her she is coming up with new ideas all the time, seasonal items, and specials. What a wasted opportunity of advertising she would have had and ignoring the commuters juat shows she has no idea about business.Glad to read in the comments Paul is working and is appreciated.

It doesn’t take a genius to work out that this woman clearly dislikes herself enormously. From her day job as a fitness instructor to the way she talks about bigger people there’s clearly something to do with weight that she has self esteem issues with. I hope she has been able to work on herself and improve her self esteem so that she doesn’t lash out on people like she does here (the scene is Harrods was particularly difficult to watch).
