There wasn't anyone to tell scramble, woman. It was at 1:30 am. There were only 8 workers and no one told them anything. Everything and everyone in the bridge fell in the water too

How about we make the corporations responsible for these calamities pay for them, instead of the tax payers. We all saw how the accountability for the Palestine, Ohio derailment got swept under the rug because so many congressmen and senators are bought and paid for. Let’s see something other than talk, talk, talk, from our political leaders. This boat was going to Sri Lanka? Why? WTF was on this boat that was worth risking the lives and welfare of everyone who depends on this bridge? Make them pay for their mistakes.

First & foremost my heart goes out to all those people that are impacted by this and their loved ones. Understanding the very bad conditions they have to deal and how hard of a decision it is to decide on weather to put people in harms way to try to save people is very very very hard. But honestly from the start of this accident/ tragedy ! They haven’t done a good job of trying to really rescue people in my opinion. The incident happened at 1:30am, they didn’t start searching for people until daylight at 8:30am. That’s about an 8hr gap❗️ When people only have a minute or 2 scientifically speaking after being submerged under water. ( most people can’t hold their breath for over 2mins ) The Governor and all the other Official’s kept stating “their focus is on saving lives”, knowing they only had a very short window of opportunity. But didn’t really have divers in the water hardly at all yesterday for 1st assessing the situation then dealing with the same conditions they’re dealing with today. They lied to the public knowing they weren’t gonna be able to find those people, NOT TO MENTION THE CARS THAT THEY HAVEN’T EVEN MENTIONED AT ALL. They only talk about the 6 workers.

I also think many of them were inside the working cars because at the moment of the impact from the ship they were on break. So I have no idea how people can get out from a car that has fallen in water but that could be a scenario where they were trapped inside. This is all a horrible situation in every way possible.

The has done absolutely nothing to maintain our infrastructure. That Bridge didn't just break where it was hit. It fell apart. I just got done re-tightening a factory roof that is only 20 year's old and half of the Lagg nut's and bolt's were loose . When is the last time y'all had someone tightened that bridge. The shipping company obviously didn't inspect the ship very well.

I can assure you that when a 900+ foot long cargo vessel likely weighing around 160,000 *TONS* loses the ability to stop and steer, that it’s going to have an astronomical amount of inertia behind it. At that point it almost doesn’t matter what type of bridge it is, it’s simply too much force striking a structure that’s *not* designed to have lateral mobility Once that pillar was struck, that framework and the roadway itself had to go somewhere, which strained and torqued the connected spans Once that happened, it caused immense strain to the connected structure of the 2nd pillar, snapping that whole section free and releasing the offset weight from the other side and pulling that 2nd pillar down with it Granted I’m not a physicist or a construction guy, but I’d be hard pressed to think that ~ANY~ bridge in the world that exists today could take that much force, somehow distribute the energy of the impact and *NOT* get immediately destroyed in the process… With that much downward force of that much material on compromised structural integrity from getting punched by a that much horizontal impact and that much weight, it’s just not feasible that that bridge or really any other could’ve withstood it… even if there was one that could, it likely wouldn’t be safe to use again without extensive repairs and even then it could be deemed unsafe

Does anyone know why the construction workers were not altered to get off the bridge if a mayday call was received in advance? I was born and lived in Maryland for 40 years. I would do anything, drive an hour or more out of my way to avoid driving over the Key Bridge. The Bay Bridge wasn't much better. The infrastructure in America requires WAY more money than it gets - not just our tax dollars - doesn't the government have any responsibility for funding public works? Genuine question to which I do not have the answer.

A lay person, not an engineer, not a port expert, pilot, captain, or sailor can see immediately that the pedestals for that bridge were inadequate protection for the supporting towers. Further, there had been a bridge catastrophe on the Delaware River in recent history. Why had no measures been taken to protect the bridge? At least, "dolphins" could have been laid at the pedestals. Many should be in prison for criminal negligence and worse.

I’m an engineer and I can tell you that it’s easier said than done. That’s an old bridge. Bridges’s in the 70s and before weren’t built to withstand lateral loads from been hit by ships that large. Also, retrofitting a bridge cost a lot of money and would likely involve closing the bridge for a period. I agree they should retrofit old style bridges, but it’s not that easy

It's simple. Baltimore was complaining about exhaust emissions from port ships. Instead of being able to warm up the engine systems...the ship moved before it was ready. The used fryer oil they mixed with the bunker fuel fouled a filter , choked the engine and it stalled. Then with no power....it drifted into the completely unprotected bridge pier.
