Thanks. There is writing all over the sign but because of the rust I couldn't read it. I think it read something along the lines of: Warning of Trains Ahead. This sign would have existed before the Electrans equipment got installed. This crossing would have been quite dangerous with just a crossbuck.

It's incredibly similar to a double crossbuck as we used to have around the 1940's or so in the Netherlands, placed at unguarded or completely unprotected crossings, where crossbucks would have something like 'Unguarded crossing, pay attention to trains, 2 tracks'. The bottom half of the lower crossbuck that goes from down-left to up-right reads 'paso sin guarda' which is something like 'Unguarded crossing'. The other part of the same crossbuck reads 'ojo al tren ' (watch for train). Most likely the other writings contained information about the number of tracks the crossing covers.

+weeardguy Ah nice. I have seen some crossbucks in Netherlands and yes, this does look similar. I thought that the sign said something along the lines of 'warning of trains' but the sign was so rusty I couldn't tell. Thanks for the info.

Thanks. I was on holiday in northern Spain so I only filmed in Figueres, Catalunya and here. I don't think I will be coming back to Spain until at least summer 2019. I will be filming in the UK for now.

Other ways to tell them apart: Mexican signals are modeled more like American signals. A crossing there is referred to as “crucero ferrocarril”, while here, it’s “paso a nivel”.

No unfortunately, this is the only crossing I've been to in Spain without any barriers and these lights, and I only filmed one train. It's cool to see the second train lights activate briefly at the start though.
