Anne-Grethe Jensen riding Marzog and the late Dr Reiner Klimke on Ahlerich perform a magnificent Pas de Deux at Grand Prix level.
I was fortunate to receive a video tape in the late 80's from a friend in The Netherlands and mixed in with the television show of tulips, cheese, canals and showjumping was this marvelous 100 minutes of dressage. 8 years ago we saved the video tape, which was made in the "secam" system, by copying the footage to our hard drive recorder and today I finally got around to copying this to youtube. I have seen the pas de deux on youtube already but it is of very poor quality. Hopefully this will be easier to watch.

Amazing, the changes in just thirty years, and certainly not for the best. This should be held up as the ideal for dressage in competition. Happy relaxed horses, elegant soft riders, and pure poetry in motion.

So beautiful it makes me cry. Lithe, athletic horses who enjoy their work, not the automatic , over muscled, over bent machines we see today. This is real horsemanship.

Soooo wundervoll! Gelassen! Mit einem großen Selbstverständnis. Keine gespannten Pferde! Keine verspannten Tritte! Vorder- und Hinterhand korrespondieren! Toll! Großes Kino. Eine großartige Erinnerung!

Excellence is not the word enough. Perfection in pair, obedience in horse's, riders togetherness at all the stages. 30 years ago and still going as evergreen. Best wishes.

I am one young rider who wonders what judges see in the horses of today. There is no lightness or harmony in today's competition ring. I think it is sad that the horses and riders who ride like in the video do not do well in the show ring. I hope that one day competitive dressage will return back to where the horse and rider moved lightly and harmoniously with proper collection, not the fake rollkur junk.

In 1986 I saw these horses and riders at the World Championships in Canada. They won everything. Look how different they are than what we see today. Very happy and calm, not the contorted sort of movement that is currently being rewarded. Martzog was by far the best dressage horse I’ve ever seen, and I've been watching for 50 years. His transitions were so perfect. Passage to extended trot to passage down the long side with ears always pricked forward. It was magical! THIS is what dressage is supposed to be.

muonsmom this is what in my mind is true classical dressage, Reiner Klimke was the reason I started to look more into dressage and found a love for it, I love to watch how light he is, Marzog was like watching a ballerina :)

Horses and riders relaxed and in harmony. I'm old and new to horse riding and even newer to dressage but this is superb - collected canters to die for, that go on and on... The Pas de Troix is excellent and I love the Grand Qruadrille of Berlin but this is a class apart - technically excellent, artistic and fun to ride - how dressage should be. I bought the DD - well worth it for all three performances. I missed Reiner Klimke in life but he left a wonderful legacy.

This was when the Germans were totally unbeatable and the Brits were in the wilderness of GP dressage. Watching this I am not surprised . We have come a very, very long way to be where we are now but I feel that the Germans will win the gold in Rio. Dr Klimke was the master.

We the spectators need to start booing everytime an upper level rider rides a movement wrong. Not the movements that are a little off but the WTF movements should be booed. The 'is that a trot or piaffe or a passage?' movements. The 'is that a handstand or a piaffe?' movements. The ' why are there bad Park Horses in the Dressage ring?' movements.
