The Catalyst, on the other hand, aimed at the creation of a new molecular matrix (a new DNA) that would not only encode the proteins necessary for the development of living organisms, but also the cybernetic grafts.

@@suonoblu6650 And this is the biggest problem of ME 3's writing. You are absolutely right that this is what the devs want the players to think, judging by the post game scenes they added. But after two games about not trusting the reapers they simply cannot hope the players to buy catalyst's shit. Their story is so good and so memorable, so convincing, that many players simply would not believe this 'this time things are different' claim. And since stories, once written, no longer belong only to the writers, I think these doubts are very much real and solid for those who would like to interpret the story this way.

@@yidingliu8663 how about an ending where we send the entire geth fleet and edi outside the milky way, or somewhere in the cluster unoccupied by reapers and then destroy the mass relay there so that effect won't reach there, hence preserving everything, even Shapard!! I would like to believe that they will do what they did with Mass Effect 2 to 3, where if you didn't survive the suicide mission you can't import the save and you start in the default state and if you did survive you can import. Tho if they go with this they will have to make Shepard a side character or a background character, which personally, will be for the best since it's about time Shepard will rest in some tropical place and collect the royalities from all the vids.

I have seen some comments mentioning that the writers confirmed that since the LI doesn't put the name on, they essentially go and look for Shepard (which is totally logical considering how we know the crew for 3 games) and eventually recovered and reunited with the crew. Tho I totally agree with you, this scene is extremely unsatisfying considering all the effort need to achieve it which is picking correct choices around the 2 previous games, especially the Tali-Legion feud and essentially doing 100% of Mass Effect 3 (atleast in the LE)

i dont get how this ending is more "realistic" cus of free will to choose... any of those endings, actually? and how sacrifising of synthetic lives just to survive yourself make it also realistic? in fact, Shep does so much to unite whole universe to prevent another genoside... WOULDNT choose to do genocide of all syntetics and would prefer to unite universe once and for all.

Spoiler: Destroy was the only I option I felt like I could pick because it seemed like what you had been fighting for all this time. That said, I couldn't help but consider the other choices because I wondered whether there was a more significant or perhaps nobler outcome with the others - and maybe destroy was too obvious or selfish. I love this game but the ending leaves me with a strange feeling because even thought they had hinted at it before (Shep's dreams) it goes from being a pretty grounded sci-fi epic to having this heady, transcendental sort of ending where you felt removed from the world all of a sudden. Even still, I'm glad it took on something larger than a predictable boss fight ending. Mass Effect deserved it.

Apparently millions of years didn't make them smart enough to encrypt the relay network when their invasion began, essentially trapping very organic in the system they were currently in or even do something simple like ... oops... deactivated the beaming to the citadel (when it was clear that this was the target of the ground assault). Also the Reaper lasering every house for like half an hour instead of the two little trucks with big ass missiles on them.... lol. Also, why waste goddess knows how much time to depopulate Palaven and Earth when it is common knowledge to them that the Citadel is the key to the relay network. Disable/Control the network -> close to no opposition. If you REALLY think about it, the reapers are pretty friggin stupid. I wonder how they managed to dupe the Protheans. Personally I find this ending a colossal waste. You waste millions of years of knowledge, basically making all previous civilizations harvesting a sacrifice that was meaningless. I vastly prefer the synthesis ending but even the control one would be preferable over this waste.

As long as its mass effect i feel it should be Shepard we play. Otherwise it needs to be a spin off on mass effect if we play someone else. Only way to play another character is if shepard gets as old as Anderson and mentoring a new normandy commander

This is the most hopeful ending, I agree with you on the Control ending and I don't buy that eternal peace which is supposedly guaranteed by Synthesis. I mean, I get the idea, I know what the developers wanted to convey through it and I know its their "best" choice but this merge of organics and synthetics is more like fantasy not sci-fi. And Mass Effect was definitely sci-fi up until that final conversation with the Catalyst. I have to say it though, I'm grateful for Extended Cut, if not for it we would still be furious or indifferent about the original endings or would have left this trilogy in the dust and instead we're debating which choice leaves the galaxy in better state. And every one has its pros and cons

I would also like to add that in my opinion this is the ending the devs wanted us to follow, just out of the sheer annoyance of the Reapers and their destruction, you see all those little stories of stomped because of the Reapers, for example that little love story of Charr and Ereba and the Reapers positioned at the shroud and the geth base just to make our lives even more terrible, their indoctrination of Cerberus who pulls our nose along with their arrogance, by the point that you reach the end, you just want to destroy them. I assume whoever picks the rest of the endings do it because of EDI and the Geth.

@@Johnny-ny3ko Pretty much, although a good retcon would be since the reapers are a mass of several programs EDI can survive due to being singular (although slightly damaged and stuck inner body) and the same being true for individual Geth uploaded into Quarian suits. It’d create a nice bit of intrigue since you could set up a number of Geth factions due to said programs creating their own collective afterwards. One becoming symbiotic with the Quarians integrating into their ships and living alongside individuals yo archive memories of creators, One trying to follow legions example by interacting with and engaging with organics. Building their stations in inhabited systems but staying a Geth consensus, a Geth migrant fleet and space station network that has little interest in Organics after nearly being wiped out but is more isolationist than unwilling to interact, A faction that creates their Dyson sphere for a unified consensus, a counter that pursues individualism and has taken up inefficient practises as they do so. Like having a homeworld, and a faction that have downloaded themselves into leftover husks and are paranoid organics will always try to destroy them and therefore actively engage in conflicts with organics when conflict arises

@@samsmith4242 I don't think Bioware thought about it as much as you did and it reflected when the starchild said how can we live without snythetics, for me personally it made him sound like we are giving up electricity or machinery like spaceships tho I didn't believe they would actually do it, even the normal LOKI mechs doesn't sound plausible since they aren't true AI or even VI, they are just advanced program robot. I don't think they thought about it that much but had to give it a minus otherwise 90 % of the ppl will choose destroy

I used to think synthesis was awesome, but in reality it seems like everyone would eventually choose to become a reaper in pursuit of ‘immortality’. I think a Geth genocide should still happen and EDI should have been debilitated by destroy, but a singular AI with a body could survive the blast if Shepard’s survived despite his cybernetics and VI components. While control should have been fleshed out better in a more synthesis ending style than it was. A third option was not really necessary The main thing I want though is background on the crucible. My head Canon is that it was originally a reaper killing gun developed by a prothean level cycle that got passed down, built on improved and then some though about how to use the mass relay network to transmit a blast through the galaxy at once. Issue is, the citadel would be required and the protheans were the first to successfully disable it

I'll be honest this comment sounds like BS, you're pretty much saying the death of all the synthetics was worth it because people died already. Just admit that you murdered millions and ruined lives. If a scene like the Quarians dying but instead the geth were shown or if Edi was seen dying in front of Joker, it'd be more obvious that this isn't the best ending...

​@@galacticquasaur2956 Nope, specifically what I'm saying is it's an extermination on a galactic scale where hundreds of millions are already dead, and if Shepard doesn't make the hard call, *untold Billions will follow.* He/She has four choices. A: Don't destroy the Reapers. Do nothing and let the extermination continue, potentially across multiple more cycles, which means the death-toll would be truly incomprehensible. B: Don't destroy the Reapers. Install an AI dictator with all the Reapers at its command, and hope it uses that power for the benefit of all, rather the enslavement of them. This doesn't solve anything, as eventually either the Dictator turns bad, or society at large catches up with the Reapers from a technological standpoint, and the AI dictator can no longer keep control. Free thinking beings tend to chafe under dictatorships, and without a peaceful way to remove it, the only two options are conflict or subjugation. C: Don't destroy the Reapers. Violate every living being in the Galaxy and merge them with Reaper tech, essentially wiping out purely biological life and purely synthetic life in one stroke, but only in this galaxy, and only for a time. This solves nothing of course, as the Andromeda galaxy contains both purely synthetic and organic life, and the Arks have already been sent there, with purely biological specimens of all the main species. Also, it's perfectly possible that the Milky Way inhabitants will again create purely synthetic life, or that purely organic life will again evolve. All we've done is create a 'third' category. D: Destroy the Reapers. Finish the war, losing millions more, but saving untold billions - the aim Shepard has had for three games. Yes, it comes at a cost, but the game has been prepping Shepard for that with constant choices that no matter which way you go, someone dies. You can't save everyone.

This was a war that thousands of life cycles have failed to win, and the cycle closes with Shepard making one last tragic choice for the sake of everyone, even if that means his/her death and the destruction of synthetic life (obviously with the perfect ending you get the commander to survive, but how could he/she have possibly known that?)

I have seen a post from someone in Bioware saying that in this ending Shepard lives and it is logical that since the LI doesn't put the name on they will go look for him/her, especially since Joker didn't want to leave

@@Johnny-ny3ko I was mostly confused because why would they even make a memorial plaque for Shepard in the first place if the crew knew they were alive? Just in case? Did they make it after Shepard died the first time? If I'm not mistaken Shepard takes their breath after that memorial scene. Did they leave Shepard behind thinking they were dead? Did they go to the forest world to memorialize their dead, then go back to get Shepard? If they didn't know at the time that Shepard was alive, then again why did they not put the name up? Edit: also why would they leave to a completely different world to memorialize the dead if they knew Shepard was still alive? I feel like Shepard would need some pretty immediate medical attention after getting hit with a building destroying Lazer and shot in the side. Nah, they can wait while we print some plaques and go off world to memorialize our fallen friends without Shepard, just to not put all of them up and turn right back around to save Shepard

​@@grandmabutters8502 They left the first time because Hackett said to get to the rendevouz since they didn't know how the energy would be unleashed, about the plaque I dunno, it's plausible they had one lying around since Shepard died already or maybe they just show it in a weird sequence since you get those scenes after the aftermath pictures of everyone living and happy and about Shepard surviving the laser, she/he did manage to walk quite a while and I can assume that all of his/her augmentations from Cerberus helped. I agree with you that it was executed extremely bad, I totally agree with you but until the Happy ending mod drops down for the LE that's all we can get

@@Johnny-ny3ko I just feel if they had those two scenes switched it would make a lot more sense, Shepard taking a breath, then the memorial scene, at least that way we could plausibly believe that Shepard is recovering in the Normandy's MedBay while everyone is putting the plaques up. Also I think it's super funny they have a plaque for Shepard like "well, they DID die once and they immediately started running back into gunfire the second they woke up from being.. dead.. sooooo, let's just get this one printed while we're still getting paid by Cerberus"

@@grandmabutters8502 It's possible during those 2 scenes they were going for feelings rather than actuality, when the LI doesn't put the name and smiles, he has the sense of hope that Shepard is alive against all odds, same as us and when we move to Shepard's breathing we, the audience find it to be true and are supposed to be happy. Still, 0/10 for execution and choice of scenes, it would have much more fulfilling to have a picture with Shepard and his/her LI doing w/e they do instead of those 2 scenes

Save the geth in me2 there are random war assets round the place in me1 and two the resources boost war assets Save both quarian and geth You can get krogan and salarian All crew loyalty missions Or you can do it if you do all the quests in me3 alone it just takes knowing what will get / lose score

Save the rachni queen in me1 and me3, ally with the leviathans, complete the Dr Archer dlc, make peace with the quarians and geth, disarm the bomb in tuchanka before it blows up. Make sure to get the suicide mission perfect so u get all your guys back as allies such as Jack, Grunt, Jacob etc. save the students in Grimsom academy. Do the sidquests in the citadel. Make sure the salarian council lives, cure the genophage. Save the admiral in rannoch. Ally with the gangs Aria. Do the omega dlc and citadel too. If u need more u can look it up

Well in MEA they haven’t received communications from the Milky Way past 2186. Bc the reapers damaged so many QEC communications, it’s likely the ones the Andromeda Initiative was using were destroyed during the war. They’d have to send communications manually and we don’t know when they did that so it might be a few years before Ryder gets a message like “oh yea btw we survived, Shepard saved the galaxy dont worry”

Basically, complete all side missions and dlcs, you'll get enough

Even tho EDI and the geth died, this way galactic civilization was preserved the way it is with the lessons we learned intact (the quarians and geth making peace, EDI gaining humanity, etc) so this time when we recreate synthetics we won’t have to make the same mistakes as we did before. The reapers whole point was that we would keep making the same mistakes with synthetic-organic conflict, but now we won’t have to, bc we know better

I mean, Bioware literally saying that Shepard survives the Destroy ending back in 2012 AND the fact that the voice gasping is a Male's voice if Shep was Male, and a Female voice gasps if Shep was Female should be 100% proof enough I'd think lmao

It’s your favourite squad member that isn’t a love interest. I know for certain at 7:00, when they step out of the Normandy after crash landing, it’s always Joker, then Love Interest, then favourite squad mate (if no LI, then two favourite squad mates). So in this playthrough, Javik was their top SM.

They won’t forget though, this way all the races will remember the mistakes they made in the past and won’t repeat them. The galaxy showed that it could work together, organics alongside synthetics, to defeat the reapers; therefore the reapers’ point is moot, this cycle is different and we don’t need them anymore

If you have high EMS it’s likely the crucible was less damaged and let off a gentler energy surge, one which was kinder to Shep’s cybernetics

EMS determines how protected the Crucible is, if it gets damaged, the blast won't be specific.

Apparently you need 7800 so you were short 1000. I had 6000 and nothing in the galaxy map was lit up that I could go to (ie side quest) - only defeat Cerberus base which then forces you to the end quest.
