What's your take on the first Mass Effect? (and yes, this means you can look forward to me eventually doing the whole trilogy!)

Someone is gonna be happy with the legendary edition remaster of Mass Effect 1.

Call me weird, but I liked the Mako and I liked how empty the planets were. I never had much trouble with maneuvering the Mako around. And the music and sound design on the planets and those bases on those planets really put me in mind of sci-fi horror and really provided some great atmosphere.

In the Mako, I would play a game with myself: How close can I get to flipping over? There was one moment when I actually managed to get the Mako onto its back. Then it magically righted itself.

Hi Jirard, I just wanted to take a second to say thank you for such a great video. I’ve been in love with Mass Effect ever since I discovered it in 2008. Since then, I’ve played each of the games, including Andromeda, hundreds of times and watched countless review videos. I don’t think anyone has yet done such a complete and fair review as yours here, and for that I thank you.

I am SUUUUPER happy you decided to finally give this series a go. ME has become one of my all time favorite franchises. Much like you I was introduced to this series after a friend would never shut up about it and I am glad she didn't. Also, like many others, 2 is my overall favorite and I anticipate the day when you review it.

I like this guy but damn I've never heard so many negative things said about mass effect 1. Sure the game is outdated now it came out a long time ago. it's one of the better games out there to this date... & Mass effect 2 is one of the greatest games ever made

Loved this, LOVE Mass Effect. I hope you do the rest of the series! And trust me, the remaster makes the completing a LOT less tedious. Just memories of the original Mako send shivers down my spine haha.

While fans call Mass Effect 2 the shining example of western RPG'S which I totally agree, I like the first one the most when it comes to storytelling, the nostalgic atmosphere, and music. It's pure gold.

when i first played mass effect 1 i thought it was awesome, almost perfect even though i knew it wasnt... the i played the second one and realized how a real mass effect should be

I love mass effect as a story. Not so much as a game. Also yes the mako is one of the worst controlling vehicles ever. You MUST play the game to truly understand it.

I usually comment on either one of the jokes in the episode, or agree with one of your points that I feel that people tend to overlook. Today, I just want you, and everyone at TOVG - that I appreciate everything you guys do for the show - and not just this one. I try and take time to watch all that you do, and even though I sometimes miss a video due to workschedule or time spent offline, I hope you guys know that all that you do is awesome. Keep it up.

Is it wrong to ask for a remake of the ME Trilogy? I know there not that old but I think these games deserve to be expanded upon and be given the modern day treatment perhaps with a new engine and a heavier emphasis on RPG elements. Maybe even expand on character background, motivation, and romances as well "Andromeda is out and you still cant get wrecked by a Krogan which is bullshit" Or you know just port the trilogy to PS4 XBONE whichever you feel like doing lol I just want Shepherd and his buddies back in action again.

DUDE You finally played ME1! It's such an experience. Such a shame it got less and less deep RPG in each iteration.

The original Mass Effect was a phenomenal game when it came out in 2007 and it still is even today. Since then franchise has been held in high regard and for good reason. The planets that you visited were worth exploring. The people and aliens that you encountered were worth caring about. The narrative was interesting and compelling. The voice acting and dialog system were really good. The combat was good but not perfect. Mass Effect 2 improved just about every aspect from the original title. The game's visuals were improved. The combat was way more satisfying. New and interesting characters were introduced. Mass Effect 3 was also a great entry in the series, despite criticism regarding its ending. It was also the most challenging entry in the series thanks to improved A.I. and the introduction of new enemies (Banshee, Brute and Geth Prime, to name a few). So much was at stake to close out the trilogy. Suffice to say, the Mass Effect franchise has been legendary thanks to Bioware's ability to craft amazing RPG's, including Dragon Age, Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire and of course Mass Effect. Mass Effect Andromeda came out a few days ago and the game is a big disappointment, which I'm sad to say. The characters aren't interesting like they were in prior titles (Commander Shepard, Garrus, Grunt, Miranda, Mordin, Jacob, Tali'Zorah, Samara, Thane to mention some names). The story just isn't as compelling as the ones found in prior titles. The dialog, voice acting, character animation and movement aren't natural. The areas that you visit look good but the game's visuals as a whole aren't exactly impressive. Combat is actually fun and the game is lengthy but the experience gets dragged down due to the aforementioned issues. Also worth mentioning is the myriad of bugs and glitches that the game has. I remember reading a Yahoo article a while back stating that key members left Bioware which I'm sure is the reason why Andromeda ended up being such a lackluster release. In fact, the Bioware who created Mass Effect Andromeda isn't the same developer who created the prior entries in the series and it clearly shows in the final product.

Andromeda is actually really fun, it's just janky on a technical level.

Love it still. Every Mass Effect has at least one major complaint, but it remains a classic. ME1- Mako ME2- Planet scanning ME3- Universal Peacekeeping with EVERY race.

Great video, you guys are killing it as usual. One little thing I would like to suggest though: I understand the Completionist rating goes from "Donate it" being the lowest, to "Complete it" being the highest. But ever since the change to the new presentation for the show, the correlation between the final ratings is no longer clear as the "rating meter" is gone. For those of us who have been following the show for years it's not a problem, but I fear that newcomers might not understand the value of each rating - given the lack of a visual representation that makes it clear that "Complete it" is not just better than "Finish it", but also the best rating. I think it would be a shame because I personally find the Completionist rating system as the best one out there.

The mako is really the one thing that brings all Mass Effect players together, no matter their opinions on the game. The Mako is awful.
