They are quite rare, about 7000 in existence, the American Jacob is a lovely breed. Last year one of my Jacob ewes had a ram lamb who grew eight horns.
@vnokesCO10 ай бұрын
@@LadyLithias8 horns, wow! I can't even picture how that would look. I wasn't aware of this breed either. The 4 horns he has are pretty impressive, as is her ability to not stab her or him in the process.
@LadyLithias9 ай бұрын
@@vnokesCO I have a video of shearing day on my micro-farm, and there were some comical moments where the shearer was accidentally immobilized by the horns of the animals. This breed also has horns on th ewes. My herd has 13 animals, and between them, they have a total of 42 horns. The 8-horns is not common, and in this particular animals case he just didn't have a big enough head to accomodate all that horn space, so he passed away. I did not repeat that matchup between animals again.

What a beautiful animal, with such an impressive set of horns. I haven't seen any horned livestock look quite like that, thought that so small animals didn't have such an imposing headgear. Looks like old world depictions of the horned one, it's so eerily similar! I hadn't thought that the illustrations had living examples, I'm astonished that there's something living that is that close to the examples. Amazing animal and marvelous work!

A lot of people confuse hair sheep breeds with goats because they do look a lot more similar than wool sheep do to goats. Main way to tell the difference is the tail, if it is really long and dangly or docked than it is a sheep, if it is short and upright it is a goat.
