Utilizing a canvas sale at Michael's, I was able to create this foldable portable board fairly cheap. I find the painted texture perfect for many different situations. I hope you like it.

Man, I really like how the stamps not being complete every time looks. It adds a lot of extra detail with no added work. I'm not sure if I prefer just leaving it black in the gaps or painting in dirt, they both look really great imo!

Incredible idea! I immediately thought, when I watched you stamp, that I'd find a stack of magazines or books to back fill, and level behind the canvas while I stamped.

Outstanding project. A really useful tool, especially for gamers with limited space. What makes it all the better is that, between the stamps and the fact you're literally working with a painting canvas, it's a very flexible technique. You could paint out grassy fields or rocky badlands. Or make the stamps more techno-inspired, and create an easy Necromunda/Kill Team/Stargrave board like loads of crafters make. Make it multiple types of stamps, so you can vary between metal sheets, grating, pipes, hatches, and wiring. Not gonna lie, I want to do this now.

I like this. Could also be good for doing a field, or even a town with roads. Just need to paint it differently. For the back, you could do a ship port, level out two of the boards with the inside, then leave the other two lower and do them up as water. The center connection between the two could be a pier or dock.

Love this idea. There are two things I'm going to do differently on mine though. 1) instead of foam and washers, use sheet metal so the entire surface can be used with magnetic terrain pieces. Probably use foam to fill in the space beneath also. 2) recess the hinges so the 4 pieces fit tighter together. Otherwise this is amazing. Liked and subscribed for more tips. Keep 'em coming!

Nice job! This is a GREAT idea. Just adding my 50c here, I didn’t have time to go through all comments, so pardon me if I repeat any given idea. As you added the metal rings in the canvas, what about using vinyl or thin cardboard grid terrain sections cut at the same measures and with some flat magnets glued to it in the borders, so it would be steady when on the top of the board and wouldn’t be taking many metal rings, saving them for terrain pieces. This way you can use your project for any other terrain type you can imagine, mountain, snowy, water, jungle, etc. also cheap to add these, endless combinations, easy to store the extras and portable!
@brokenterrain

Mate - this is genius! I've been looking for a portable, lightweight tabletop board that can fit over narrow kitchen tables to make a 4ft by 4ft playing area. I'll be using 4x 2x2 canvas boards, primed black (I'll be placing a gaming mat or cloth over the top), with pvc backing underneath the canvas for additional support, plus non-slip stickers on the frame (so it won't slide off a table). Thanks for the inspiration!
