Even if they go subscription, I doubt they'll ever be as pricey as Adobe… still hope they don’t go down that route tho :)

@@CreativeGoodman Even if they're less pricey, Affinity is still missing a lot of features that are already in Illustrator and Photoshop. If I have to pay a subscription, I'm going with the most feature complete and industry standard. And I'm REALLY hoping Canva doesn't f**k us with a subscription model.

@@mickjayplays - Oh they will in time I personally guarantee it my friend. Canva isn't going to dish out a huge sum of money to the now previous owner(s) of Serif without planning and expecting some sort of return on their investment here with high profit gains for their share holders also! The history of small company acquisitions normally will tell you what to expect as this has already been done a million times over yielding the same exact results every time in the end of it! Simple business economics my friend!

@mickjayplays If you are mostly (if not completely) a mobile designer, Affinity 2 apps on iPad are light years better than Adobe. I have both. I hope we don’t get stuck with Adobe. Ugh

I just bought into affinity photo because its offline standalone app. If Canva turns it into subscription im out.

You and me both, I'll turn back to Adobe. I can't stand canva as it is. Let alone them buying affinity. Will break my heart to see another good software/company bite the dust.

Buy the universal license now before any ‘enchantments’ added to future updates are tied to monthly $5-10 payments for use; essentially making it the same as adobe (which tbh is not worth it)

My guess would be the Universal License for Version 2 will always be a one-off price, I can't see them adding any subscription to V2. I can see Version 3 being a subscription model tho and then them not supporting Version 2. Hope I’m wrong! :)

The lack of a subscription payment model was Affinity's main competitive advantage against Adobe. Once it's gone and it's the same offer as Adobe with a subscription, there's no point in using Affinity. You can safely return to Adobe. Therefore, once Canva connects the subscription model for Affinity, there will be a great outcome of customers of their product and return to Adobe. Therefore, I am inclined to believe that Canva will either leave indefinite licenses, or they will extend Serif developments and create just new Canva products with a subscription.

I'll be gone too.I'm sick of the subscriptions model. The money soon adds up if you buy into a few and every app l see these days that I think might be interesting well let's just say as soon as I see the word subscription I instantly lose that interest. Just glad I'm not far off retiring.

...just to add, one of the joint pledges Affinity and Canva have made is "Perpetual licences will always be offered and we will always price Affinity fairly and affordably." Make of that what you will.

They have been putting al theer real effort into video and designing anyhow. I never upgraded to 2.0 because it didn't have anything I needed as a stills photographer.

why all the excitement Andrew?...... this seems like we are going to end up without a standalone image manipulation suite alternative, if they screw with it I'm going to GIMP, don't care....CANVA Pfffttttt!!!!! what a letdown.😠😠😠😠😠😠😠

Excitement isn't what I feel, although when I watched the video back there now you’re right, I do come across excited at times, but I think it's more shocked to be honest at this news. AP2 is an app that I absolutely love, and this is big, big news, so I suppose it's more reacting to the news. I do have fears that it will go subscription-based, no time soon tho, but down the line yes. If you’re Canva this is a good purchase, but for us, the users of Affinity, I would be more fearful than optimistic at present. Hope I’m wrong :)

The biggest winner in Adobe's license debacle is Canva, who just recently bought out the Serif/Affinity suite. What timing. Affinity software will now sell thru the roof and reap tons for Canva. I'm sure there's a lot of celebrating in the Canva headquarters.

Why switch? Nothing has changed, and until you hear otherwise, things are still business as usual. Now, if in the future Canva pushes the Affinity products to a subscription model, then maybe. But switching now doesn't make much sense. I detest Adobe as much as the next person, and I don't see Canva becoming the next Adobe. It could happen, but that isn't inevitable.

I hope I can still use my Affinity one time licence. Im more of a Video Editor person but £50 with the spring sale was enough for me to try Affinity Photo. If it moves to a subscription model and I can't use my one time license which I really hope that doesn't happen I'm going to not use this great software anymore.

Canva holds copyright if you use certain features or levels. Fine if you don't care about that. I asked Affinity and they said you have to ask Canva. Similarly, a font sold within Affinity has to have license inquiries or fees if used in certain ways. and yes 'not at this time' is the answer to question will they have a subscription.

What a shame. I remember the old Serif products and they were great, although I bought the entire Affinity suite, but could never get on with it. The subscription model is a rip off for the personal user.

When that video came out on Affinity's YT Channel, I wrote my discomfort and the collective fear that we all have that it will eventually become a subscription model However... if there is one model that I can accept and live with, it would be the model that Topaz uses. pay one time for the software, receive the 1st year of updates and if you want the new functions, pay another year for them and if not, you can still continue using said software without limitations. In my opinion that is a good middle point, not the best, but better than paying x month/year just to be able to use the software.

Affinity was profitable on a perpetual license basis which was one of its USP. Canva have already committed to maintaining the perpetual license model for Affinity, why wouldn't they? Affinity integrated into Canva would already be covered in their subscription model. Canva 1 subscription, Canva Ultimate including Affinity a higher subscription. What's the benefit of not continuing Affinity perpetual?

Subscription is fine for those who can claim it as a tax right off, but for the nurse or teacher or any one that just uses this product to have fun, subscription is a c…………..y move and not ok by me!
