I feel like these changes just make the deck more generic, i get you have 15 Surviel but it feels like a worse version of a dimir mill deck instead of a fun unique surviel deck

110%. Plus some of his inclusions are worse. Consuming Aberation does nothing for the deck and Mirko will never be able to Reanimate it...

There should be 15 pieces of surveil tech even after my cuts. With the card draw we added that should definitely get you there.

@@decktechsfordecksyou cut watcher of hours. That’s literally one of the best cards to combo with the commander. You get 7 turns of free surveils to buff your commander for only 2 mana cost. Then after you have a free 6/6 creature while your commander just got buffed by plus 7/7. You also cut a lot of the really good surveil cards. I get you wanted this to be an instant speed graveyard deck, that’s what this deck is supposed to be so that’s cool, but surveil is literally the major point of the commander. You need to surveil to buff him so you can reanimate the big stuff with him. You cut out way too much surveil for just basic card draw and other reanimate stuff the deck doesn’t need. You surveil/mill to get your stuff into the graveyard while buffing him, then have him reanimate it for you. Cutting all that out for basic card draw and even more reanimate spells, when there’s already plenty of great reanimate spells and when the commander does most of the reanimating for you, does nothing to help the commander and completely goes against the way this deck is meant to be played. At this point it’s just another basic reanimation deck and it’s pointless. Might as well use a different commander at this point. Curate got cut? Really? Otherworldly gaze too? Costs 1 mana and you get to surveil 3. You can cast it a second time in your graveyard too. Literally one of the best surveil cards there is and you cut it like what?😂 Surveil literally gives you major card advantage and puts the stuff you need in the graveyard, while buffing the commander so he can reanimate bigger shit. And you cut out all the good surveil for extra card draw which is worse.

@@decktechsfordecksyou need surveil more then card draw in this deck. Shouldn’t have added so much card draw in favor of surveil. Defeats the entire purpose of the commander.

@decktechsfordecks You should always play 25+ of whatever you're trying to do with the deck. A lot of really bad, unnecessary changes here...

I agree that the instants and sorceries with surveil aren't doing enough for the deck. I don't really like surveil at all actually, my list is only running Pile On, Undercity Sewers and Gallifrey Council Chamber for surveil cards. There are lots of other ways to increase Mirko's power, but you can actually just build Mirko as zero power tribal and never need to worry about buffing Mirko. This is why I was surprised to see you cut Phyrexian Metamorph; its a zero power in the graveyard and copies almost anything.

The best card to add to this deck, without hesitation is Pact Weapon. It Transforms any form of tutorisation into a viable target for reanimation (into your hand, on top of library can now be putted in the graveyard). It boosts your commander stats (easily manageable ability because if you surveiled before u can let the big creature spell on top, then attack, draw the card, boost mirko then pay equip cost to send it to the grave and finally at end step reanimate it with mirko boosted by that same card mana value...) . It makes you discard as much as you want. It makes you win the game if you have it in play equiped to mirko, doom whisperer in play before the end of turn and any winning combo in your deck (works only if you play borne upon a wind in your deck and of course the eye tht let u play sur veiled card until end of turn)

Honestly cutting brainstorm is wild. I agree with some of the cuts like master of death to put in bigger reanimate targets. That said, brainstorm leta you put dead cards in hand on top of your deck to surveil into the graveyard and reanimate on the cheap. That synergy is beautiful.

I’ll be honest, these changes seem less like an ‘upgrade’ and more like a 90o degree shift away - Seems like I’m not the only one who’s pointed this tonal shift out, but one specific thing that really stood out as an example is how in the first round of cuts you removed a large chunk of the instants, and then later on you talk about how final word phantom “is good, but we’re just not really interested in holding up mana for instant speed stuff” - yeah no shit, you just pulled it out! I know there’s still some amount of surveil synergy left in the deck, but it really feels like this is missing the point; if I wanted a generic good dimir reanimator list I can just go to edhrec and grab any of the lists there - we pick Mirko because we like Mirko. Like, if I wanted to “upgrade” the Naya deck in this set, I could do that by removing all of those ‘weird jank disguise and morph cards’ with some good naya tokens, and then I can replace the commander with Jetmir nexus of revels, and yeah technically I will have “upgraded it” into a “better” deck, but well, you see my point.

Everyone will look at a commander and see something different. I definitely had Mirko in mind when making the add and cut decisions. I might have fallen short on the explanation sense people are missing the synergy and that’s definitely on me. The deck is now more consistent at not only getting our key creatures into the grave such as doom whisperer and eye of dusk mantle. I was also able to add cards that work really well with the commander while also insuring the deck works without our commander such as the grim captains locker on an extreme budget. I also really wanted to focus on making rise of the dark realms the game ender it was meant to be. The deck was lacking any way to fill our opponents grave plus our creatures weren’t very impactful. I hope this helps you understand the choices I made. I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy the upgrades hopefully you were able to find a few cards you could add 😁

The points about filling the opponents graveyards like windfall are understandable, though it seems unlikely that there is anything close to a guaranteed of pulling off the rise of the dark realms win. It is one card among 99 and short of adding a tutor it may not come up at all in multiple games.

Right you surveil it to the grave with doom whisperer and cast if for free using dusk mantle. The mill and added card draw along with the life gain pieces are to ensure we get there. Sacrificing a consuming aberration to an altar of the wretched can do some crazy things.

I wouldve rather seen some cards added that cared about instants and sorceries in the graveyard than cutting so much of the surveil cards. Murktide Regent, Demilich, and Lier could all be great in this deck

Lier is a perfect addition. Low power so it's easier to pick back up with mirko, and unlocks another mode for our deck, just enabling more play from the graveyard.

I think you went a bit too heavy with cutting the surveil cards. Seems like you just gutted a major theme of the deck. I also think Hullbreaker Horror and Soul Diviner would be good adds.

This wasn't a good upgrade. I normally like your upgrade suggestions but you basically created a whole new deck and took out what made this commander special. You basically created a cheaper dimir mill deck.
