Elon Musk decided on a critical change to the engineering of the Robotaxi vehicle, leaving Tesla engineers speechless. Inside sources helped me piece together what really happened that led Journaliar Dana Hull to mislead the public with the claim that the 8/8 event would be delayed two months.

Elon’s response above and you’re Elon quote of, “One of you f’s leaked this, now you have to finish it on 8/8!” are incongruent. Is Elon expecting them to have it done on 8/8 or is he allowing them ‘extra time (to) allow us to show off a few more things’? I’m leaning toward the 8/8 date being pushed back.

It's not incongruent. The potential delay or still being ready by 8/8 was speculation, as Warren stated multiple times in the video. Elon's comment then confirms that it is in-fact delayed.@@jeffpicken5057

My guess is a heated/cooled frunk. That could take a couple months to engineer and build a prototype. That would make the Robotaxi double as a food and grocery delivery vehicle. Everyone from pizza chains to grocery stores could use Tesla (or their own fleet of Tesla vehicles) to do deliveries. Using Robotaxis as a delivery service could almost double the utilization of the fleet. Many companies would scramble to partner with Tesla so that they could ditch the cost and hassle of having their own delivery drivers. You could order hot food, groceries, or the box of screws your forgot from Home Depot (to avoid a 3rd trip to the hardware store trying to finish your DIY home project). You won't have to tip a driver and the car will know exactly where to find you based on your phone. So many positives for both Tesla and the end consumer by using robotaxis as a delivery vehicle.

Doesn't have to be an intentional leak from the team at the meeting. They might just have talked a few words about it during lunch, and been overheard. A "journalist" need only be told two words ("two month's") for spinning it up to a 2000 words storyl Those two words could have traveled far before reaching the "journalist". "Lose lips sinks ships", you know!

@@larsnystrom6698That's not how journalism works at all. An editor isn't going to risk the publications credibility based on some rumor that a journalist barely heard. Nor would you be able to cite that person as a source. You'd need hard proof in the form of emails memos, etc before relying on it. There are probably some disgruntled employees willing to vent to journalists.

The writing is on the wall….. Elon plugs into Dojo via nuerolink and sorts fsd instantly. Now Optimus can benefit from direct link to Dojo and then passes the Turing test. Elon produces 100 million Optimus/Elon bots over next 3 years and then as long as the sun rises and wind blows daily a form of perpetual motion is realised. Just an observation/forecast.

We don’t know the timing of these decisions. Could be all these things were decided before the august 8th date was announced. Could be they said we could have it done in 2 months two and a half months ago.

Usually Elon’s objective is to increase the utility of a product. Perhaps he asked the cyber cab engineers to add on a feature that would enable the vehicle to do something that small, high density vehicles are not expected to be able to do? Like carry stuff outside or link up with other vehicles?😅

Warren - CyberCab #1 is the SAFEST vehicle , Tesla will ever produce . also the most Efficient & most American made. I think there will be 2 vehicles shown Simultaneously . #1 - Dedicated cyber cab . #2 - low cost per mile Consumer vehicle (same base Platform).

Using hub motors in the cab. Super inexpensive. Very easy to maintain, repair and replace. Frees up large amounts of space for the passenger compartment.

You mean like Aptera. Why not? Much of the engineering has already been completed by Elaphe, the hub motor manufacture. These motors didn’t work well in the Lordstown Endurance electric pickup. I believe the major issue was the high weight of the truck required a large air gap in the hub motor to accommodate dynamic loads. This should not be an issue in the super light Robo Cab. Packaging is great, unsprung weight has been proven to not be an issue in the Aptera or Endurance, lots of torque, and dynamic torque vectoring between all the wheels should really make for tight turns and incredible high speed handling, not for sport but for safety.

I bet Elon will present a prototype of the Robotaxi soon. Underscore “a prototype”please. That means one. But what maybe is more interesting is, that when Elon said some years ago, that the Tesla future now is all about volumen, I believe that he will reveal at least different compelling compacts, creating a demand that exceeds all other models combined. I also believe they can start up ramp of this car in several Gigas soon, to avoid osborning the M3. Only a 25K$ Tesla will make the sales of 4 million units next year. What do you think Warren? Maybe he postponed to make sure the other cars are not Osborne?!? The initial robotaxi should be completely different than all other cars and built to work, not for private use, IMO.

I am not that impressed by the design of what's in the media for the Robotaxi. Sure, the technology is great but the design is a bit flat and lacks a 'new concept' look. I have the image of a pod where one person faces the other. The problem is regulators I guess.

Elon is the kind of engineer who know "this is possible", and dares to go for it! I guess the engineering team, knowing that Elon takes the responsibility for it, just has to do it. Something like that! The FSD has been a tough one. Elon knew it was possible when he put cameras on the BEVs. When was that? I think it will be finished 2025. So, much more difficult than landing rockets, and more important!
