Welcome back to The Daily Aviation for a feature on the US Marine Corps’ heavy lift helicopter, the Ch-53E Super Stallion. The largest helicopter in the US military, it is capable of carrying enormous amounts of troops or cargo to austere locations around the world.

Back doing my days in the Marines was on many flights in the CH-53's. Both the D model and back then the new E models in places like Yuma MCAS, Fallon NAS, Cherry Point MCAS, Camp Pendleton MCB, and 29 Palms MCB.

I find it funny that the outstanding feature is the refueling probe really that’s it? How about the difficulty it had staying airborne when the marines first accepted delivery and the number of pilots that refused to fly it because it had a tendency to crash it was called difficult to fly because of instability issues. I’m not sure what the dead total is but I do know it’s up there.

Dontcha just love how Colonel Jessup ( or Jessep ) of *A FEW GOOD MEN* uses the phrase the marines "SAVE LIVES." Rather than the obverse which means most often saving the lives of "good" guys = (equals) TAKING the lives of "bad" guys. And this practice of using that EUPHEMISM seems to be universal in all branches of military madness . . . all over the WORLD. I hope no one ever has to "save" my life. hahahahahahaahahaha
