Yamaha RMAX 1000 Hunterworks tip The Prequel

These videos were done back in November before the Weller Racing PV3 flash was available. I didn't have the ECU flash or the 22 gram weights installed. As you can see the HW tip is louder at idle, but you can still EASILY have a conversation and the tone of the HW tip is more pleasant. At speed, the HW tip actually sounds quieter despite what the dB meter says, possibly due to the tone. Other differences are that I have the Milwaukee Packout system installed in my previous (later) video and in this prequel I have the Yamaha OEM cargo box so the packout system could be absorbing the noise frequency of the HW tip better than the stock OEM cargo box. Great video. Your tip to use anti-seize or tinkseal on the bolts is very important. Especially for new machines that have the chance to do that before those bolts are broken off. I knew those bolts were a problem and sprayed mine with penetrating fluid for 5 days straight. I was very careful and still broke 2 of them. Thanks for the tips and keep up the great work!

It looks like you could just modify the stock tip by cutting the rear screen cage off. It wouldn't be wide open like the hunter but maybe increase flow but not be as loud?

You could do that but it would no longer be Forest Circus compliant as you're removing the spark arrestor.

Is the HW tip the same for both the RMAX and X2/4? If so, why?

Yes it is. Same bolt pattern for both. I don't think the retooling cost to make it any larger would be cost effective and it still gives a decent performance increase over stock.

How critical is it to do the ecu flash for the exhaust tip? Would it be alright to run it with stock tune?

On the X2/X4 you could probably get by. I would not run the RMAX without an ECU tune as it already runs ridiculously lean.

Have you found anyone who makes a quiet exhaust for rmax, I see them for the General.

No I haven't. It would be nice if HMF would adapt the silent exhaust for the General to the RMAX. You can lower cruising RPM in the RMAX with 22 gram HV weights in the primary clutch.

I can't see how a tune would be necessary for an exhaust tip. Surely a tune may have its benefits. But not solely for an exhaust tip.

The RMAX already runs very lean due to emissions and AIS.

Yes and no. See my B4/After video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oqppjJenltDXoJ8.html It's a lower tone, which isn't as annoying and lower RPMs cruising, but if you romp on it, it's certainly louder.

@@MassiveOverkill I was more or less referring to the decibel reading for the new set up. My weights come today as well as my tuner. Already have the tip as well

I don't have a professional sound meter (just my phone) and no passenger to hold it (wife still works). Someone else will have to step up with accurate dB readings before/after.
