AMENDMENT: Break Marduk Tackle with 1+2 (I use 1+2 for everyone so this just slipped past me!)
Breaking down the tackle system in Tekken. This initially was going to be a combo filler since I thought it was much simpler than it actually was, yet 8 and half minutes later, it turned into a full vid. Dug up almost decade old posts which taught me some odd stuff about option selects.
I forgot to mention the few characters that can arm bar are Paul, Jin, Devil Jin, Nina and King.

You actually may be right haha; I break with 1+2 for everyone out of habit. Might pin this so I don't get newer players destroyed by Marduk.

Might be a bit late, marduk tackle can be 1+2 or 2 break depending on the distance. If you got tackle right in front of your face (where duk picks you up first and then slam you down) its 1+2 break. If you get tackle from far away, its a 2 break with 1 frame break window, so kinda impossible in online match

Good Marduks wont tackle from neutral. Instead they use the tackle strategically eg oki, so most of the time it's unbreakable

Tekken 7 owes so much if it's success to KZfaq , it's not even fucking funny. Not a single word about this in the game. The amount of work required just to get into the basic fundamentals of the game. Edit : leg locks and armbars work differently ??? Jesus

I was using Nina and my friend Paul. I had 5 HP left. Paul tackled me but I managed to turn over the tackle and do one of my own which I chose to do arm break but Paul reversed my reversal tackle with his own arm break. It was so excilirating even though I died.

Awesome video. I experimented 112~1+2spaming of Dragunov and Paul, and it still works even though this video was uploaded 2 years ago. Also, while the commands introduced in the video to break punches and arm bar are 1+2 and 1 or 2 spam, I found out that if you reverse the order, it can also break 3+4 leg bar too. So if you press 1 or 2 and spam 1+2, it will break either side of punch, arm bar and leg bar.

asuka's unblockable tackle from ki charge can still be reversed over for the opponent to hit asuka.

You can still overturn Asuka's ki-charge tackle. 1+2 when your back hits the ground, but has a very strict timing

Amazing tutorial! I am a Marduk player and l usually mash 1+2 when l see the opponent trying to tackle me so l can reverse it into Mount stance.

I always thought Dragunovs arm bar tackle counter was a b2+4/b1+3 input like parrys, never used it but it's nice knowing the actual input

Secret with kazumi is not to punch at the ground but do a normal stomp which even in very high level this is seldom defended. This also reduces the danger of getting reversaled themselves. Actually its so successfull i think its cheese OP strategy with her. There are also jump tackles like nina which jumps with her legs at you to grab you and not sure but i think with f2 or so you can counter this to throw her away.

you can mash 1+2 to reverse it the timing is not strict I just tested it. I reverse it everytime if I mash but if I try to time it only sometimes

I loved the detailed explanation. Thanks, as a new player this drastically changes the game for me. It infuriates me that the game makes no attempt at teaching you these things or making the knowledge of these available in form of move lists or tutorials... I dont understand... is it to secretly maintain some enigmatic aspect to the game? to push the learning curve up higher so it remains "HARD" . idk, im new so let me know if you do.

I dont get it, I tried reversing arm bar by doing my own arm bar but all it did is made the character do the regular reversals and keep in mind I was using paul to reverse king armbar

Am i missing something? i hit the lab and this doesnt work at all. the break frames for paul's arm lock is so little that you cant get it unless you mash it. its unbufferable. hell i cant even get it %100 even if i mash it. It seems like a geniune %33 mixup

So neutral throws have made been easier, because you can break them with either 1 or 2 BUT for ultimate tackle, you need to do a 2D Just Frame on angle depending ToD, just so you get the right counterpart... oh namco bandai...

Frames of Tackle Break Windows: Regular Tackle: 1, 2, 3, 4 (1+2 & 2 escape) Marduk close: -, -, 3, 4, 5, 6 (1+2 escape) Marduk distant jump: 1, 2, -, -, -, -, (1+2, & 2 & 1 escape) So Marduk close tackle has also 4 frames of break window like a regular tackle but is shifted by 2 frames later, so ur regular tackle break timing gets screwed, since ur not allowed to push buttons at the first or second frame but at the third at the earliest. For the distant version, where he jumps, you have 2 frames to break it - the first 2f of the grab.

I have done the generic reversal as paul literally every single time someone tackles me and never realized how until this video Now I feel like I'm going to mess it up by consciously going for it lmao Edit: Just looked it up and you can just mash 1+2 as Paul, which is what I was apparently doing lolol

Wait, does your 'beat all options' niche technique work against Marduk? This would be huge for me if so because I have a pocket Paul and could completely castrate him if this works. I just hate running into the big lad online because tackle spamming seems to skew so heavily in his favour. It's like whenever their back is to the wall they'll just spam it and steal rounds like Kazuyas throwing out panic vortexes. Don't @me TMM subs, we all know you do it.

No, since Marduk's tackle isn't "GENERIC". Paul and Drag can only OS all the "GENERIC" options. 7:20

its been a while but now that ive actually properly tested this, up close it is 1+2 and 2 is the break from afar but the catch is that, and this works with all tackles, you can press any combination of buttons together as long as it includes the correct break. this means that 1+2 still works from afar, or even ki charge will work. and you could press 1+2+3 or ki charge or whatever as long as one of the buttons is 2 to break other characters' tackles or marduk's from afar, and something like 1+2+3 or ki charge for marduk up close, but the important thing is that you can just press 1+2 for everybody on all tackles and it works

if you reverse an arm bar, can they also reverse your arm bar then, reverse their arm bar then, reverse your arm bar and so on and so forth?

In my matches I have had reverses happen only up till the fourth one. So if I got tackled I would reverse and then the opponent would reverse my "reverse" (that's like three reverses if you count the initial tackle). After that I could only break his reverse tackle which makes it the fourth one. I don't know if four is the limit or if I just didn't press the right buttons due to pressure but I have never had more then four tackle reverses one after another.

If you are being tackled and you press 1+2 just before your back hits the ground, you'll "reverse the mount" and roll on top of your opponent. This reversing of the mount cannot be reversed by the other player. No funny ongoing RDC-like tussles for the dominant position. Every character can escape the arm bar. The only characters who can reverse the arm bar (by turning it into an arm bar of their own) are Paul, King, Nina, Jin, Devil Jin, Dragunov and Marduk. That arm bar reversal cannot be reversed. (And the original arm bar and the reversal arm bar actually have slightly different animations.)
