I recently finished painting my bedroom after 6 years. Yes that's right. I got halfway round my bedroom and sustained a knee injury that put me out of action for months followed by another, then life. Only recently I decided I hated the colour scheme I was working on, changed it and now have a calm,stylish bedroom with pops of colour in soft furnishings and art work, so it's really mine

I love that you did dark walls! I did my bedroom with dark walls. I had a beautiful wallpaper behind the bed and painted the walls the dark background color. Unfortunately the wallpaper never stayed on the wall. We had to remove it. I was disappointed. I’ll never probably spend that much on wallpaper again. I love your headboard.

Mine is mounted over the dresser so it frees up the surface. This height (plus sitting right on the dresser) is the perfect viewing height from the bed

My home is a 1920s Queenslander ( Australia), majorities of my decors are thrifted. I love antique vintage looking furniture and decors . I agree with your tip about searching for furnishings through secondhand stores and such. A useful video could be what things to look for in choosing furniture (e.g, joinery vs screws, real wood vs. laminated wood) so that your viewers know when they've found a good deal or what could be upgraded/fixed. I've learned a lot as a woodworker what makes furniture last 100 years, but nowadays, people think of IKEA as good furniture when it is only so-so.

I just hung a curtain rod myself which was no small feat LOL I am sad my drapes are as long as the window Floor to ceiling and no longer or wider… I could not be bothered with custom design beyond the 84”, but I really like that tip!! Thank you!

I was feeling the same when I saw this tip. I just hung my drapes a few weeks ago. I wonder if i cam let out the hem a little bit (don't have that much further to go) Also what about putting the curtain on clips? I used to see that a lot. This is a great channel. Hey Julie, thank you for all the tips and tricks on your channel. I'm feeling inspired every time I watch your videos. Like this one you have nicely illustrated how dark interior would make the room look bigger. I wonder if it would achieve the same limitless effect if I paint the ceiling black and leave the walls white. The room I am considering is my bathroom. I am doing it in a budget point of view as tiles are very expensive if I need to redo the tiles on the wall. For practical reason, I have opt for a lower ceiling to hide the vent above the ceiling to look better. I live in Hong Kong and original height of the ceiling in the other rooms are not that high to start off with. With reference to your inspo from your feng shiu video, would blacking the bathroom ceiling black attract the worst vibes in a room that is considered the darkest room in the house? I love that you are an interior designer that could incorporate feng shiu into your design without compromising on style, beauty and functionality. So my ultimate question is:- How could I make my bathroom look taller without inviting bad luck into my space? Thanks so much in advance and I would love to see more videos on how to keep bathroom renovation including toilets, on a low budget and still look expensive. xx

Thanks for watching! The black ceiling alone will make the room appear shorter. To visually expand the space, paint all walls and ceiling in the same hue. It will make the edges “disappear”

Great advice on 2nd hand decor. A source I rely on is Movie set sales,( I do some acting in the Vancouver BC area) if you live in an area that has an active filming industry it's a great source. If you are lucky you can score an item that you recognize from the production. Get on their e mail list, or have a friend who is in the industry let you know when and where the sales are.

It's pretty and dramatic, but I'm going for a brighter vibe in my bedroom...top to bottom. The only piece of furniture I'm keeping is a blonde armoire that I bought from the Beau Rivage Hotel after Hurricane Katrina. I'm so excited, but nervous to pick just the right furniture for it! I'm probably going to meet with a designer at the furniture store. Thanks!

Design question for you - our bedding is a deep charcoal purple. I know that’s a no-no for you - the sheets, the pillows, the duvet. But I LOVE it. It’s linen and just gorgeous to me. I love your idea of dark walls for zen. Is there any way to make that work, or with the dark bedding is that a recipe for a total cave? Thank you! And do you still recommend matching nightstands and lamps for a boho vibe? Do you have an examples at the ready? These videos are giving me a total education!! I’m loving the journey with you.

Thank you for watching Sonya! I love dark bedding as well, just give the room a bit of contrast even in dark colors. Let the bedding be the only purple so it pops! Yes, I still love matching pieces for nightstands and lamps- the style is what will keep it bohemian, not the mismatch. Check out my find your style video for more tips!

It's like I signed up for a $$$ masterclass in interior design. I'm so grateful. I had thought a neutral lavender (so pale it's almost white) from F&B. Would you advise against that? Awesome video Julie! I have a question - in terms of most current interior design trends, what would be an ideal wall color for a master bedroom with a tray ceiling. Right now we have a builder grade neutral light beige on the wall but I would love a rich dark moody/intimate color on the wall. May install bright white wainscoting for contrast. Accessories and frames are all silver metallic beveled or mirror finished with some crystal elements. Thank you in advance for your advice!
