Great video! I use shutter angle because it will remain consistent as I change frame rate. So if I’m at 24p, a 180° shutter is approximately 1/48, but if I go to 60p and want a consistent look, 180° should be 1/120. A small detail, but useful.

exactly, yes. If you want to stick to the 180 rule, this setting helps

Awesome video as always! I seem to have a problem or there is a bug. When I overexpose using shutter speed I don’t get zebras. Only when I use the faux exposure compensation slider.

Amazing. every video you make is soo well-thought. Thanks. Question. How can I white balance using a grey card with Black Magic Cam app? In Filmic Pro, you zoom in to cover the screen with the grey card, then enable auto white balance, then lock it, and then zoom out back again. Does it make sense to use the same process work in Black Magic cam app? Thank you so much for your time!

Simon: great video as always . Am I right in thinking there is no slow motion recoirding setting?. ( Other than record at 4k 60 fps and then slow it downmanually in post?) Thanks!

At 1080p you can shoot 120fps. But no slow motion mode

Hi I have a Question When I upload a video from my gallery into super 16 using a preset,it color grading doesn’t come as shown on the example In fact when I use the preset as I record directly from the app it shows as the actual preset colors Could u help me correct it Thank u very much for taking time out to read my message

I have been following your guide - newbie here! I have imported a lut to Blackmagic camera app and selected “record lut to clip” - however if I try to share the video to stories in Instagram it shows it without the lut applied and I’m unsure why? Anyone able to help?

Which iPhone was this done with? I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max, and Blackmagic came with the Apple Log to Rec709, but I don't thing the 13 does Apple Log, and so I'm not getting that grayed out effect when I use that lUT...

Sir apple said that 15 pro 128gb can't shoot LOG at 4k, is it possible thru blackmagic camera app ? Is it possible to edit videos freely on iPhone without heavy computer system? I have ryzen 5 laptop Reply me what the ground reality,is there any other issues with 128gb ..I am going to buy 15 pro for filming instead of camera . What you think? I have been using this app for a couple of weeks. I have found that there is a a slight mismstch between video and sound. The sound is slightly ahead if the video. Anyone else found this? I am using 25 FPS and 48 kHz with the iPhone microphone set on Auto.

Hi Simon, great video...thanks for everything you do. Quick question, when I set my resolution to HD (1080p), I don't see the 120fps, I still see it up to 60fps. What am I missing?

you can't shoot 120fps using the ProRes codec

my BM app only shows verticals controls, even when phone is turned in the 16.9 format. i believe this is a app glitch, [please assist

Hi Simon, great tutorial, one thing I noticed using the 'cinematic' or 'extreme' modes in stabilisation, you can't use the lock focus and exposure feature, as soon as you hit record it just goes out of focus, at least that is what happens on my Iphone 15 Pro Max anyway, it's fine in standard and off modes, have you noticed this at all?

strange, I wonder if it's a bug with the Pro Max? I uninstalled and reinstalled the app to see if that was the problem, but it was still the same, the lock focus and exposure in the native iPhone app works fine.@@HorrocksoniPhone

Hi Simon, as always, it was an excellent easy-to-understand but comprehensive tutorial; thank you. I used to be able to get the ISO and Shutter Speed, actually I use Angle to be Auto but now I can't set ISO to Auto when shutter speed is set to Auto, even after watching your video frame by frame. I am pulling my hair out at my potential stupidity. :-) The option does not show when click on the +/- icon.

wait this guy says keep ISO at 1250 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jq6enaufl9bKaYU.html at min 3:13 he explains why. do you agree with that he doesn't really say if it should stay on that or if it's for indoors outdoors not sure..i think he said to maximize your dynamic range and this is who he said he followed for it kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iLSUapeo3rzYe6s.html

I keep my ISO as low as possible to reduce noise. I think that's a silly suggestion imo

I think Apple has a bunch of marketing amateurs who know nothing about cameras or photography. I’ve always hated the “pro” name on iPhone as there’s nothing “pro” about them! To qualify pro they should at least have an app like this Blackmagic’s or a large 1” sensor- or better still both, plus a real optical zoom and don’t count the 0.5x as part of the zoom power!!

I knew there'd be one... "The last couple of decades have seen the biggest shifts in the TV industry and in consumer-grade A.V. equipment. We’ve gone from analogue to digital video, and from standard definition to 1080i & 1080p HD, then to UHD, then to UHD with high dynamic range and a bigger colour range. This means we haven’t needed 29.97Hz for new production, but still need it for compatibility with the systems that were based on it from the earliest days of TV."

Very exhaustive video! My only problem with recording on the iPhone 15 pro is that it gets too warm and I can only record about 15 mins. I record to an external drive. Any tips for avoiding this?
