I'm saying that the reason why these "memes", if you can even call them that, aren't funny is because they aren't trying to be funny but instead are just trying to use a template and plaster it with somewhat relevant words. They aren't pursuing humor but a standard.

Was the "bathmech" guy "pursuing humor" by changing a single letter, or was he also just trying to pursue a standard? How do you know? It's easy to say that something you find funny "pursues humor" and something you don't find funny just isn't "trying to be funny", but that's just projecting a quality onto something based solely on your opinion of it, instead of forming an opinion based on its qualities.
