Thank you! We'll be using All About Spelling this year. There are not that many videos for the new edition. So this was very helpful!

I love your idea of using the sentences as copy work!

It definitely helps to reinforce the spelling after they’ve learned the rule!

We haven't used this level yet BUT we have used AAR and we just use a personal white board and dry erase markers to write the words AND we use a metal cookie sheet with magnetic letters. I agree that the little letter tiles become very tedious. We haven't used the app though.

The app is expensive, but has been a HUGE game changer! I will never use the tiles again! 😅

How do you teach both AAR & AAS in the same semester? We just finished rushing through AAR1. So that we can start 1st grade with AAR2 & AAS1. I’m nervous to add in spelling. I’m thinking 2 20min sessions for each lesson so maybe M-Tu AAR2 then Wed-Th AAS. Giving us a cushion extra day Fri to catch up if needed. Any advice helps ❤

I have felt the same way about an excessive work load on reading and spelling. I have tried alternating days with the two. (Spelling one day AAR the next and repeat) but I felt it slowed me down on what’s important for them to learn first: reading. I ultimately decided to focus on AAR first. And then once they complete ALL levels we can then focus on AAS. I think having that confidence is reading will help tremendously with their spelling. We can breeze through the early levels and quickly catch up to where they are struggling in spelling. In the end, don’t let anyone else decide what works best for your family but you. 🙂

We've not used it yet and I'll have a 3rd grader. He's got reading down and doing pretty decent with spelling. He can spell all 3 letter words, most 4 letter words, and many 5+. But he doesn't know all the spelling rules. Would starting at level 2 be a good fit? 1 seems too easy. Thanks!

I would not base it off of how many letters are in the words, but if he knows how to spell all the phonograms in that level. You can see the phonograms taught in each level on the website. Each level also covers previous levels rules. At least that is what I have seen so far with levels 1 & 2. I personally would not purchase a whole level to learn 1 or 2 phonograms that your child doesn’t know yet. At that point I would purchase the level up and use the phonogram cards to teach the gaps. I hope that helps!

Bold opening statement. Effective sizes of OG implementation are what according to whom. Meta analysis ? I’m not saying it’s not awesome, but “best” is a superlative it cannot claim
