Are you ready for the ultimate danger? You're alone, outnumbered, and there's no guarantee you'll make it out alive.
You're J.J. Your objective: secretly infiltrate the underground labyrinth of the Norsa Empire and steal their plans for domination. Armed with the ultra speed and power of the Zillion Laser, your mission is complex. And sheer strength will not win this one alone. You'll need more brains than brawn in this sophisticated operation.
So, how will you think your way to victory?
You'll need cunning strategy and memory to guide yourself successfully through the maze which awaits. Once inside, you'll find the information needed to destroy the Norsas and restore peace forever.
The sequel: " Zillion II " • Master System Longplay... -

Exactly! Something mysterious! It was so particular that you wouldn't even think of ranking it or comparing it, it was some different weird experience! At that time, in a game, crouching, using an elevator, a console, simply having to explore... All these things were amazing! lol That game also had some mystery feeling about it, like "hi kid, no instructions, no tutorial, no tip, welcome to weirdland!". - Devs today should take notes on that! So many games of today bore you to death with instructions that you are fed up before you even start playing! Being left on your own from the start made the whole experience magical!

@@verstraetenandre In my opinion the BEST of all Sega games (the only disadvantage: To play this game completely through, it took about seven hours and you could not save the score...)! It would be so fantastic if a game-company in 2022 could make a Zillion-remake in a "virtual-reality-version". That would be the f* coolest game ever!

If he had turned off the game, to watch THAT As You Said, OR ANY OTHER Worst thing from these days, I Would have just thrown the little shit, On A Acid pool, YOU SEE, The Zillion Anime Was FULLY BROADCASTED, VOICE ACTED On Brazil, Back at the 80s, AND, AT THAT TIME, IT WAS A HUGE SUCESS! SHAME You People From Uncle Sam (Assuming you are from United States, if not, Please, Correct me Wrong), Only had 5 Episodes of it Voice acted in English, tough, over here, it was all of the 50 Episodes, voice acted, not to gabble myself, or to make you jealous, but STILL....

"The Zillion project was conceived by SEGA's toy division, SEGA Toys. They sold a toy gun called Zillion, so I guess that's where it all started. I believe the gun uses infrared light to function. When you successfully hit your opponent's target area, the gun reacts. That's how the toy worked. In order to promote sales of this product, they commissioned an animated TV series, in which the characters used this gun. They also wanted a game to help promote it as well. So the idea was the toy, anime, and game would form an all-encompassing franchise. "The anime featured three main characters, and all we had to work with was the graphics of these characters and some background art - and that was it! We knew that the characters used laser guns to shoot their enemies. Apart from that, we had to make everything up from scratch. We had no idea what the plot was going to be. "Some compare Zillion to Metroid on NES, but we didn't think about Metroid at all; Metroid definitely did not influence the development of Zillion. I was the planner on Zillion, and it was actually somewhat inspired by Impossible Mission. It sure was - we were definitely inspired by that game. I played lots of games back then. Although I wouldn't exactly have called myself an Impossible Mission fan, it's just one of many games which I happened to enjoy." -- Kotaro Hayashida (planner - Zillion/Akai Koudan Zillion - Sega)

I borrowed this game from a friend in the late 80s. I had no idea what it was, but he didnt like it for some reason and said i could KEEP it! I loved how the characters looked like Robotech characters in the book art and cutscenes. I was hooked! As the rooms became more difficult, i kept a notepad to jot down the codes. When I found Apple in her cryo cell, I was awed. It seemed like I discovered Han Solo and freed him from the carbonite. I still remember every nuance of the musical score to this day. The final boss was so strange to see after fighting bots and blowing up pods for hours. I freaked out and thought it was some sort of game glitch! LOL Awesome game. Great memories!

I can only imagine the joygasm a kid would have, playing this game on the Genesis not knowing anything about it but knowing there's more to the characters and setting, and then coming across the Streamline Pictures dub of the first 5 episodes later on.

I remember beating this a few times just going by memory as a kid (7-8); then finally just writting down the symbols to make it easier after a few wins.
