Thanks Mark, excellent video. I just discovered club swinging recently from watching your videos. I bought 2 clubs this past week and have been using them a bit every day trying to figure them out so this is good timing.

It helped me a ton to break it apart as: arm totally ‘collapses’/flexes so that my elbow CANNOT be the focus of rotation. The shoulder MUST roll through its socket to swing the club. That might be very confusing? But it helped me understand that very motion you just demonstrated

Hello Mark. This is the first time I have written and I have to thank you. I've been lucky to follow you for years, first to understand and improve some kettlebell workouts, but the great discovery for me has been the clubs. I have practiced wushu for many years and competed in combat, now I also teach circus acrobatics and I have always had problems with my shoulders (especially the right one as dominant). Three years ago I fractured the labrum in my right shoulder and since I started practising with the clubbells according to the progressions (and, especially, paying attention to the technique) that you propose, I have improved a lot. I had almost thrown in the towel and I am 42 years old. I am very grateful to you. As I see that you are in Spain (or so it seems to me) you have an invitation to lunch if you are still here or if you come back. A big hug buddy.

This is a great lesson. Could be inserted early in club lessons. BTW: just ordered the add-on weights. I have 2 fat handle clubs, fat handle mace and arc. Would like them to be your new Wildman 35 mm, but already into $1200 in club swinging. I sleep so much better, stand better, function better. And the one or 2 times a year that I golf, swing golf clubs better.

Wow, this is excellent, exactly the issue I have with the mill. I have never been able to get my hand / thumb that far down on the backswings. After seeing this, I'm thinking to use this as a warmup. As always, thank you. Grazie.

Wow! Glad I found this video on this specific drill. Been doing 2 handed heavy club training for 8 mos now and still not able to get thumb to shirt while training. Have followed a Wildman program and up to 20 lbs now and recently started feeling some shoulder discomfort with shield cast. Sounds like I really need this drill to get the proper ROM and continue to progress. Going to drop the weight a bit and try this drill. Also planning to pre-order the 1 hand program that was just announced. I’m sure there’s gonna be a lot more useful drills and form cues in that program. Mark, please let me know if there are any other specific drills I should work on. Love all the amazing content and coaching!!

Thank you, Mark, looking forward to starting my journey; this looks like the safest smartest place based on your experience and information. I have been following you for a while, started with kettlebells and I have had a lot of injuries, poor movement patterns, imbalances etc to sort out, and I am still doing that, but I can no longer resist the potential benefits of club swinging. Cheers - Canadian Army Veteran 🙏💪❣

Hi Mark, could you please speak to your friends at Adex about UK/Europe distribution. I’d love to get into clubs but the cost of individual clubs of differing weights is crazy and I cannot find an available adjustable system here. At the moment I’m making do with a dumbbell handle with plates at one end, works ok for inside/outside circles but too cumbersome for shield cast and mills.

Since the video with Fabio I have refocused on my technique in clubs and kettlebells. In my club workouts (2H Mill/Squat) this has reduced my total reps and my total work capacity (reps x weight) has been cut about 20% at all three levels. BUT the workouts do NOT feel 20% easier and my heart rate is not decreased by 20%. I assume this means my sloppy technique was reducing the effectiveness of my workouts. Do it more better.
@hazelmaines2040

Good stuff 👍. I wonder if practicing your more refined technique is only a temporary reduction in speed. Once you've wired yourself to move well you may get faster and also have better form straight away at the next weight jump.

Mark, I notice your elbow flares out about 30-40 degrees during the exercise. Is that simply due to your using a heavier club? Should a newby using a lighter weight follow suit? Or should we try to keep our elbows pointed as straight ahead as possible? Thanks.

Great videos. A club is probably going to be the next piece I buy. Just spent to much on ruck gear. A little off topic. The Belleville mini mil boots. Do you find them true to size? Don't suppose you wear Xero shoes? If so how do they compare size wise? It's always the biggest problem with shoes online. Thanks.

That’s usually excessive torsion in the elbows. Improve shoulder mobility. Specifically your ability to get your elbows overhead with your biceps close to your ear. Practice the drill in this video. Stretch your triceps. Stretch your lats. Release your teres major (a lacrosse ball is a great tool for SMR on the teres).
