Arguably the most sensible bike on test, the Ibis HD6 offers a balanced ride feel with a solid spec, albeit at an eyewatering $11000 USD price tag. How did the Ibis deal with the fast techy trails of the Whistler Bike Park?

Nice one. It's good to keep in mind that the GX build is $4000 less at $6099, still with Factory suspension and, realistically, very similar performance.

This excellently made series of reviews really hits home for me why the cycling industry is in trouble. The changes and differences per year are so small and so expensive. I would say 95% of the mountainbikers out there could hardly tell the difference between most bikes reviewed, or it just wouldn't matter so much. You can get amazing 2nd hand bikes of just a couple of years old for a fraction of the price. Plus, it's a very small group of people able and willing to spend this amount of money.

I demo'd this and a Santa Cruz 5010 and thought this was every bit as peppy/poppy and playful as the 5010 which is saying a lot because the 5010 has a ton less travel.

I also do not understand this comment. My mates hate my HD5 up and down, its a great climber and can bomb pretty good. Most people complained it wasn't enduro enough, but for me that was a selling point. Seems like the HD6 is also a weapon both ways which is good to see.

@mickstace It's simply down to personal choice, I had the HD5 for 3 months and hated it, for me personally I prefer the HD4, why they ever changed an EWS winning bike for the HD5 for me is still a mystery other than an update to generate sales, and the Ripmo, although good still isn't as good, in my opinion, as the HD series.

hrm... Goldielocks and climbs well even with a 76.5 STA due to DW link. Does seem a bit aged in the Geo but still just 'works' like the Specialized Enduro. Too bad dentist level price tag. I think it would be good to compare them all? Megatower, SB160, Slash... but who has the time? I still think the Specialized Enduro from almost 4 years ago would still hold up. Is the cheapest way to get into a DW link bike via Divinci?
@SpencerBaum

After putting 5390 miles on my Ripmo V2 in 3 years, I'd love to throw my leg over the HD6. I am so bummed Ibis canceled their race team! I follow each and every one of them other the past 5 years and this was a total blow to me. The HD6 is not $11, 000 anymore.....not even a Yeti or Santa Cruz is these days. Bikes might finally be returning to normal pricing since the "pandemic".

"this bike is light, fast and effective" and on the pricepoint of a new car. 6.998€ is better then other brands going for the 9.999€ but still... for a non-e-bike fully... too much. those are american prices. rest of the world doesnt earn 100k++ salary / years. I have 20k/year. (germany) And with that i need to pay my rent, food, other expenses, etc too! Im left with roughly 1-3k/year available to spend on stuff. And if i want other stuff in life besides a bike, that goes down to 1k / year easily. I bought a new 1,5k fully with a good frame and upgraded it myself over a year. Next bike i will buy will definately be only a premium bike frame and thats it. Stock bikes suck, compared to the price, 90% of the time if the price is "fair"

why do all the MTB media call the extreme descent focused enduro bikes race bikes when the most succesfull enduro bikes are the more moderate ones?
@Mockle07
@Mockle07 9 ай бұрын
Because they are designed and built as race bikes! How successful they are depends on many variables… mainly who is riding it. BTW, the current World Enduro winning bike has a head tube angle of 64, the previous one was 63-64.5… both have comparatively big wheelbases too (1246/1260 respectively for size medium). What moderate “most successful” bikes are you referring to exactly?
@ttgflow
@ttgflow 9 ай бұрын
why can't it be simple as 20 years ago; XC, Freeride and Downhill. Enduro is basically modern freeride.
@Mockle07
@Mockle07 9 ай бұрын
@@ttgflow How? Freeride had no need for lighter weight or efficient pedalling platform where as racing has definitely made manufacturers think about those things more in the freeride/Enduro sector. Ultimately, what the marketeers call the bike is irrelevant, if it has the right geo, suspension design etc you can do what you want with it. I’d bet most Enduro bikes sold never see a race timer in their entire existence.
@Thisisasmokescreen
@Thisisasmokescreen 9 ай бұрын
I agree, I see it as three “enduro” subcategories :- long travel trail bike (150-160mm, steeper geo) Enduro Race (160-170mm slacker & longer with some weight consideration) Enduro freeride/park (170-180, the slackest & longest)
@harrie205

@@Mockle07 i dont think they are designed as race bikes, they are designed as fast bikes for normal riders(a real race bike(build for racrs to be fast would not do well on the market) winning biks like the yeti or the rocky mountain are more moderate the things calld race biks by journalist are ofte the norco rangs transitions spires forbiden dreadnoughts nicolai g1.... the altitude and sb160 are not extreme enduro bikes journalist tend to confused extreme downhill focuss with race bike while the sucessfull race bikes tend to be mor ballanced machines

If you didn't mind a little less travel, you could easily get an Ibis Ripmo AF (160ish front, 150ish rear, IIRC). Still DW-Link. Still modern geometry, though not hyper-slack since it's on the line between trail and big enduro sleds. Friend got one on sale with a decent-enough spec (DVO suspension, SLX drivetrain and brakes) for maybe $3k. Don't know that they do a Cadillac trim on the AF, but there's just not a huge market for super blingy parts on alloy frames these days...

The tested build is the SRAM XX AXS, so your are paying a premium for that wireless and it is only available with the carbon rims and hydra hubs. I would personally go for the Shimano builds, they are less expensive with a better/longer dropper with the BikeYoke Revive. Now are the carbon rims and Hydra hubs worth the extra $1400 vs the Blackbird Send alloy with Ibis hubs? I've never ridden hydras so I can compare, but the engagement on the Ibis hubs is not great. I also did wreck 3 Blackbird Send Rims (with cushcore) in the last 14 months, saving grace for the rims (and frame for that matter) is the lifetime warranty and Ibis honored it with no issues.
