personally, i find it easier to enter spread eagle when skating backwards and just plopping the leading foot/leg into a "second ballet position" from there. 😊

I think it is personal preference. I usually let my student figure it out.

After entering the eagle position, is it necessary to keep the leading leg on the back of the blade, and the second “catching up” leg, respectively, on the front of the blade? Thank you in advance

I don’t have strict rules for learning a spread eagle. Mostly it is a desire and practice. Try different ways to go into it. See what works for you. 😊

I can do a decent inside spread eagle, but it doesn't last as long as I'd like. What should I do to make the circle bigger and last longer? And, how. do you change edge (i.e., transition from an inside spread eagle to an outside one)?

I have to see your spread eagle to be able to give you an advise. The change of edge on a spread eagle is similar to a power pull. It is all about weight transfer.
