Great video 👍 I only rode for two months before I needed a surgery 3 weeks ago unrelated to riding. I didn't have a seat but I ordered one while I am healing and now I'm getting close to being cleared by Drs to ride again and can't wait to try seat riding after only knowing standing for 2 months and 270 miles under my belt. Watching this video over others gave me a really good understanding of not how but why you would sit while riding to improve the whole quality of a ride. I was born with flat feet so I do get some pain and fatigue in my ankle area pretty often and sitting could be a relief on long rides. Off topic but I gave the acronym KISS when teaching a ecomm radio ops course to some fellas from the State Guard and one younger fella said isn't that kind of offensive wouldn't it be better to say "Keep it stupid simple" ... I scratched my head then and still to this day not only because idk how it makes a difference but the kicker is when that particular individual was left on their own for one hour managed to mess with every knob and button I said not to touch 😅. I would have the question about how do you feel that power pads effect riding seated and the transitions up and down and even during seated riding will it make a difference? for example I have Clark power pads on my v12 now and just added the v12 seat recently. Any ways I appreciate this video very much super underated and you definitely found another subscriber here! God speed ⏩

I just read this comment now. Thanks for the sub! For some reason, it does not show up on the KZfaq app and only on the KZfaq Studio app. That guy you told me about sounds like a snowflake. Lol. That’s what the acronym KISS is anyway. We use that when keeping things simple in the operating room too. I have the Sai Pads for my Nikola and now the InMotion V13. They work well with seated riding for me. I actually made a video on seated riding with Sai pads. The Sai pads version I purchased have no rear nubbin where my heels could get caught up when changing positions. Hope you’re healed and all cleared to go riding again. @@michmasharts8870 - You will get the hang of it soon. Just use the hand on seat technique to even out your balance when standing up. Another thing is when you are about to hit a bump on the road make sure you brace yourself by holding on to the seat and slightly lifting your butt up. That and slowing down will help to decrease the chance of being bucked off the wheel like in a rodeo. I didn’t get into seated riding until about 2 years of standing riding. You are already way ahead of the EUC learning curve. Have a safe ride!

You’re welcome! Seated riding will make your ride more fun than it already is. Try not to look at the ground and keep your eyes on the road. Have some speed as you adjust to the seated position. Of course please use full gear as you acclimate to seated riding. Good luck!

Thank you for making this video I watched if about twice before I began to learn to ride seated. Took me a solid hour to be riding in the road comfortably. The Sherman is a great wheel for seated riding. You must be having a blast riding that thing around. It certainly can move you with ease. With the heels up technique and the other tips I mentioned, even you at 6’ 2” can maneuver the Sherman well with seated riding. Enjoy your rides!

I found out I don’t need front power pads, because it allows for better seated riding, because you have more room for your legs and you can accelerate better with just shifting your weight forward with one leg. I’ll just use jump pads in the future and just keep the break pads.

I did seated riding before pads were a thing. My Sai pads are more streamlined and less limiting so it doesn’t hinder me at all when I do seated riding.

EUC's were never designed for riding seated and for this reason, I never bothered learning it. If I get tired, I just stop, sit for a minute or two, stretch my legs and back to riding again.

Who said EUCs were never designed for seated riding? Have you noticed the many seat accessories custom made by the companies who make the specific wheel? The EUC can be ridden standing or seated and that extra option opens up so many possibilities. Why would you want your legs and ankles to be sore after a long ride? Sure you can stop and rest for awhile and I guarantee it “won’t be a minute or two”. That just adds more travel time. I found seated riding very intimidating at first and there is a learning curve. However, once you get past the fear and the not too steep a learning curve, that added skill just makes wheel riding so much more fun and definitely less tiring.

Got my seat for v12ht few days ago and can't wait to start training with seated riding :) have 2k miles on the v12 and ~1k on v8f. Time to boost up the experience. Thanks for the like and sub! You are already well seasoned so you should have no problem transitioning to seated riding. At first, it was quite intimidating to me to be so low to the ground and then leaning forward to accelerate. The key thing that helped me in transitioning to seated riding was being able to have a comfortable seat and learning to ride with heels up. That allowed me to use less leaning forward to accelerate. I merely had to scoot forward which caused me to use less leaning forward. The fear factor was less with this technique. Over time, seated riding became second nature. Seated riding will certainly take care of the knee pain and leg fatigue. Enjoy your rides!

Been riding an Inmotion v5f for 9 months and I love it. Thank you for this video about seated riding. My longest ride so far was 20 miles the foot fatigue was a concern. Seated riding on a larger wheel is probably at least another year away for me, I'm hoping to try an intermediate size wheel before getting the size a person could easily learn seated riding on.

I actually got a V11 on November 1st and I'm practicing and slowly getting the skills to ride better, not able to go out into unfamiliar territory yet but did a 3 mile neighborhood ride on it, cold being the biggest issue now, need wool socks...Also I made a seat Mod which I use in the house, need the actual seat that's made for it to try outside....

this what You need is euc with bigger wheel. Try something 22-24", its much more stabile, zero wobbling even on pothole. So much safer for ride. At first 22" feels strange, but after 200km muscles learn how to do it.

I have had 10, 12, 14, 16, and 18 inch wheels. I agree that I will see what a bigger wheel will offer. Definitely stability at high speed will be a big plus. I rarely go faster than 35 mph anyway which I feel is more than enough.

@@AdamU1016 me too, but 22" gives stability also in low speed, like 10mph and on potholes. Just safer ride.

@@gregx3322 - I think really big wheels are just too much. There is also the impression to cops and pedestrians that the huge wheel can be a pedestrian hazard. I have never been stopped once by a cop in my 7 years of riding and I ride everywhere. I don’t know how a cop will react when they see me on a half a motorcycle size wheel.

Great video! Wow, I did not know you were the one who crashed with the Nikola and it hit the lamppost and landed between 2 cars! Wow! I just sent your link to a new rider who wants to learn how to do seated riding, so I think it will be very helpful to him. I did the same seat mod and it's been great, but it's been taking a beating from me. I did order a new seat from one of the Russian guys, so hoping it functions just as well as the seat mod.

Thanks. I wasn’t the one that crashed with the Nikola in the video though. I just used the guy’s video to show the wobbles that can happen with the Nikola. I gave him credit for borrowing his video. This video was detailed in learning seated riding so I think your friend will benefit from watching. You actually gave me the idea to make this so thanks for the inspiration. Did you make mods to the seat as you had mentioned before by trimming it down? That KS seat is so ergonomically perfect though. Which seat did you order from the Russian guys or is it another custom KS seat? Mine is from a KS18L. I know the custom seat from the KS16X fits well on top of the Nikola too. I am not quite sure if the KS18L wood carve would fit with the KS16X. You might have to make another wood carving specific for the KS16X. Someone in Miami used the KS16X seat on his Nikola by hollowing out the inside and then securing it somehow possibly with Velcro. I would much prefer a wood carving for the 16X seat myself since it really is quite secure.

@@AdamU1016 ahh, sorry didn't see the credits. glad it wasn't you who crashed on the Nikola then! i wished i had seen your video when i first learned how to ride seated, but i think it will be very helpful to new seated riders. but you did help me a great deal making the same seat for my Nikola. i'm not as big as you, so the seat was coming up higher on me and the extra width made it hard to ride. i did end up having to shave the sides to make it more narrow and then apply liquid rubber to stabilize the seats and keep the foam from flaking. i did noticed that i developed a lot of cracks underneath the seat, so i used gorilla glue to repair them. i still love riding with the same seat, but wanted to check out some other riding seat options, so did place an order with Alexa from Russia. the package should arrive here sometime this month. i did pay extra to customize it to be on the same seat height as my current seat.

@@tanho5917 - I honestly think the original KS seat would have still been enough. With regards to the seat feeling thick, I think all you had to do was angle your feet away from the shell of the wheel. In addition, moving the seat maybe more back would cause your legs to be closer to the slimmer part of the seat. In addition, having the heels up would aIso help. I am curious to see this Russian seat. Please post it or PM me. Thanks for the sub!

@@AdamU1016 Just got my new seat today. I'll send you pics of it via FB messenger. I did have to trim my 18XL seat cause I'm not so tall and the wider width was really interfering with my riding style. Moving it back wasn't a good option since it would tilt the seat up. After my mod, the 18XL seat worked great. The only thing that bothered me was that sometimes I wish I could sit further back and the seat would develop cracks in the bottom, which made it less stable. I've mended the cracks as much as I could and have gotten used to it not being as stable as I would like, so decided to upgrade my seat option with the one from the Russian guy. The seat appears to be made of very good quality and I got a customized bracket to raise it to the same height as the 18XL seat. I'll send more pics once I install it and give it a test ride.

I just got my Sherman Max 1 week ago and want to learn seat riding. However, I still have to learn how to have better control of the Max. Being only 5'5" and 133 lbs., it is really hard for me to adjust from riding the smaller and lighter Z10 wheel previously. Being short and light weight, the law of physics is really against me riding heavy big wheel. I even installed the new model Sherman seat that I bought from ewheels but I took it off for now until I get better at riding the Sherman Max. Baby steps for me 😂

Congrats on the Shermax! You can learn seated riding easily, Doc! If you can figure out the cause of hyponatremia in a status post TURP patient, you can figure out the biomechanics behind seated riding. Lol. It was hard at first for me and awkward too. The more I kept trying eventually it became very natural. For the Shermax just use more upper body muscles such as the hips and core. Please try the seated tips I pointed out in the video. For the Sherman Max, you will be more agile with seated riding with some speed. I had to adjust when I went from 12, 14, then 18 inch wheels. I now have a 16” Nikola and a 10” MTen3 to keep myself in check. Maybe I can put a seat on my MTen3. 🤣 Good luck to you!

Same for me, about the same weight and height and the v12 is heavy. I have improved a lot, but still avoiding rough roads and heavy multi direction traffic. Planning to get a seat too

Damn bro. Thanks for the tips, but I have a few concerns. One was when you fell backwards without a helmet.... that could've been really bad. Second, I think your speed was way too fast when there were kids around. Kids are unpredictable. You have to be able to stop if they suddenly jump in front of you. Just my thoughts. Safe riding!

Thanks. I ordered it from one of the KS reps. This is the custom KS18L/18XL seat. I actually don’t remember her name since that was about 4 -5 years ago. Just PM one of the KS reps such as Tina Wong. I am not sure if she still works at KS though.

Congrats on the Nikola AR+ That is a great choice. The trolley handle allows for my seat mod to work. I used my custom KS18L seat on my trolley mod. It works really well. Over a year later the seat is still firm, secure and quite comfortable. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rNB_e9aB37iWhZs.html

Why not just make a EUC with an adjustable seat post ( maybe a suspension dropper like on my MTB) and a real true and tested UC seat? Maybe not so big, fast and expensive but super super stable with adjustable battery AH's . Seems more and more these things are evolving as a sit down machines like the original manual UC's. To each their own but sitting down all the time for cruising sense makes since to me. Maybe then the butt could take the weight stress and not the feet.

Seated riding certainly is much appreciated for fast and long distance rides. My legs and feet feel less sore after a ride. Even a tall person would feel quite comfortable seated using the technique I mentioned. The first time I rode seated I was using the wrong technique using both feet planted. It was awkward and uncomfortable. Once I rode with heels up technique, seated riding became more natural. Enjoy your rides!

How much more dangerous is the unicycle when you have to make sudden stops from a seating positions going say 20 MPH VS being on an Ebike? (on an Ebike that weighs say apx 90 pounds to 105 pounds) I worry less about being thrown stopping suddenly head first,

It takes a matter of getting used to it but if I had to make a sudden stop while seated and going 20 mph there is a certain technique used to make that emergency stop. Especially if the EUC has a handle (eg. Veteran Sherman, InMotion V13), it provides a place for the hand to grab to help with the stopping power. I don’t think it’s that much more dangerous to stop with an EUC vs. an e-bike. It takes practice and skill just like with any new skill learned.

@@AdamU1016 Cool, thanks for letting me know. so I've got a cool tip for you, in case you come across others who like some of the advantages of the unicycle over a regular Ebike, but like me, find it's too big a leap for them but liked the superior range of the Ebike: My tip is this, in terms of quality components being used, I'm paying attention closely to this 2100.00 64AMP model from this company called Wildeway, and from what I'm learning that type of amperage and 750W motor should give easily someone like 75 miles of range when fully charged as long as the weight does not go beyond 175 pounds and not much more than 20 MPH, unlike it's 2 or 3 competitors in this price range however, there battery's are UL listed. @@flolou8496 - I appreciate the tip. The new and bigger EUCs have range of over 100 miles. For example, my new InMotion V13 has a 4,500 W motor and if I am conservative with speed staying at 20 mph I can easily have a range of over 100 miles. Max speed on my V13 is 56 mph but I have never gone more than 45 mph as I would not want to have a cutout. My V13 has suspension too. The EUC is more portable than an e-bike too.

I was not going fast at all. That kid jumped out quickly at about 5 yards away. The Insta360 makes my speed look deceiving. Since then I go basically at walking speed now when kids are nearby.

@@georgieman1910 Same way you turn when standing up riding. Apply more pressure on the same pedal as the direction of the turn. If you have a grab bar on your wheel, holding on to the bar will give you some reassurance as you are turning.
