After hearing people debate, which is better old or new mastodon. Mastodon is like peanut butter. Their old stuff like crunchy peanut butter, gritty, coarse, and hella chonky, whereas the new stuff is like silky smooth peanut butter. Regardless it is peanut butter, it is delicious, amazing, and always be a staple in my musical diet.

The scene that follows after 4:37 shows the pinnacle that is this masterpiece of a music video. Her smile shows overwhelming pride and satisfaction after committing what is symbolized as a heinous, sinful act, yet ignorant of it's true depth, makes for a chilling scene. Further complemented by a melody that sounds like crippling despair, a resigned closure... Its beautiful.

Was still deep in the hell that was the woman I loved and lived with for seven years leaving me for the man she cheated with when I first heard this song and saw this video. The cold agony of hurt and despair and un releasable heart ache you feel while watching the only person that really matters to you commit to such acts of betrayal and enjoying how much its hurting you even though they wont fully admit it, the Pain of having to watch them become someone who is irreversibly transformed from who they were when they loved you and how much this new world they left you for is thrilling them. The "Say when and id come running back" line hits me so hard because even though in my situation I knew my woman had eaten the apple and become tainted by it, leaving no chance at ever rebuilding what we once had, I still, more than two years hence feel her absence and would have for a very very very long time, maybe even now in the right circumstance, gone running back myself. chick really fucked me up. fuck this is such a perfect sound for the emotional longing. mastodon forever.

Will there ever be a moment I won't feel this heat coming up from ground? Will there ever be a time when I can show myself through open doors? All I need is you to tell me how to reconcile this guilt and shame I've already ripped myself to pieces, and I've given it away All the weight lies upon my shoulders from The great disruption It's hard to breathe inside these waves of doubt Tidal distraction Can you tell me how to wish away this chaos making my head spin? Can you tell me how to soothe the savage beast locked up inside these walls? Will there ever be a place that I can hide and heal these open sores? Or do I have to cut them out and eat them as my people adore? All the weight lies upon my shoulders from The great disruption It's hard to breathe inside these waves of doubt Tidal distraction I have, I have lost my way Reaching, reaching for today I have, I have lost my way Reaching, reaching for today Say when And I'll come running back Say when And I'll come running back Say when And I'll come running back Say when And I'll come running back

Ok after returning to listen to these guys after 10 years, it’s clear they have improved incredibly. Most bands change their sound a lot usually for the worse, rarely do any keep the same vibe and sound but improve all the aspects of it that it sounds very different purely because it’s so improved . Ok that might not make sense but yeah, they are fuxking sick

No they didn't. The peak was Blood Mountain + Crack the Skye, after that it was a slow slide down and gradual increase of self-repetition. 10 years ago Mastodon was unique, now it's a generic metal band. This song is a prime example, predictable and repetitive. It sounds tired, and it's tiring to listen to this. Even Brann's drum fills sound generic now.

4:35 This is just one of many beautiful moments on this album which lesser bands would build an entire song around. These masters just introduce it halfway through the song. Amazing solo as well. Everyone is on fire on this album. I usually make it a point and listen to the entire album in one go, as it appeals to me on many emotional levels. There’s moments when I can’t help but cry but I always come out on the other side as if having gone through catharsis.

EXCELLENT decision. 🤘😎🤘 They started out SUPER gritty, and every album becomes more and more prog/"album-rock", in a sense: Not to box them in, just expressing that most of their albums are comprised of songs that -if you want to/have the time- will take you on a ride when listened to as one single work of art. Blood Mountain is always the album I point people towards, for a sampler platter of all the different flavors of Mastodon- but it's your journey- when it is time, trust your gut on the next album to discover. Also- if you like stupid humor and goofy ridiculousness, watch the short 3-5 minute video series "Cooking With Mastodon" on KZfaq. Hilarious.🤣
