The dictionary says a "duster" is: "1. a piece of cloth that is used for removing dust from furniture, books, surfaces, etc." - That doesn't really sound like a handkerchief to me, but I guess it is a rag, which is the champion's actual answer.

CNR in rare form today! "Big shot emcee in your borrowed suits!" I love it when Gene gets taken down a notch and Charles knows just how to get him. Not to mention Gene's strange affected pronunciations that he insists are proper....like Car-nay-gie for Carnegie.

It's a proper pronunciation although frequently pronounced Car-neg-ee. He also pronunced van Gogh properly, unlike most Americans, who pronounce it van Go.

About the pronunciation...on a recent episode he was pronouncing the name Daniel as Dannel, on a Daniel Boone question. He did it several times but oddly when he first read the question, he actually pronounced it correctly.......but now I'm wondering, maybe the writers mispelled it??

I wonder if Charles was telling the truth when he said Gene just had surgery. Cause Gene's been talking funny for the last few eps. and it sounds like his speech is slurred in this one. I'll have to see if I can find anything about it...probably not, but whatelse do I have to do.

H/H match update: ... ~~~Today's action: Our champion can't quite achieve a tie today, with the villainess du jour being Patti and her "Bar of Soap" (which was actually a logical answer). But he can't be too disappointed, having earned the maximum possible from his one victory: $5,600! (Plenty of champs have won less after 3 or 4 games!) (And was it my imagination, or did Brett almost look relieved when she realized she wouldn't be called on again today for the H/H? She really takes it so seriously, I think she'd have an ulcer if she were called on every day!) *Today's audience match question: "Tommy________"* (My thoughts: Boy, Gun, Smothers) - Another dreaded name question. I'm sure there are a few Tommy names that a 1978 mind would think of that I'm just not coming up with. The celebs: Richard (Gun), Brett (Smothers), Charles (Dorsey) The choice: Dorsey (It did sound like the audience favorite, but it's always hard to tell if they're cheering the answer or cheering Charles and his delivery.) The answers: Sands, Smothers, Dorsey - Kudos to Charles for coming up with the top answer in third position! Another champion gets off to a good start in the Super-Match. What do we know about her? She chose all three regulars, so maybe she's a traditionalist and long-time fan of the show. She picked Richard first, but didn't blindly take his suggestion as some contestants seem to do. So for the head-to-head? Richard hasn't matched since episode 1198 (almost two weeks ago!), so does this mean he's due for a win, or does it mean the champion might feel freer to choose a different celeb seeing that Brett matched last time and Betty matched the time before that? I hope she'll stick with Charles, since it's been so long since he's had a shot at it (he last played a H/H in episode 1100, and he matched, BTW). Wow, after Chuck's little comedy interlude, it almost seems like a lock that she'd pick him for the H/H, right? Well, it's Richard... After sitting out the last two H/H questions, he's back in the saddle again! Is this the start of a new mega-streak for our H/H King? His recent mega-streak of 70 consecutive H/H attempts began after Fannie played in episode 1132 and ended when Betty was called on in episode 1200. (Then he also watched Betty play in 1205 and then Brett in 1206.) *Today's H/H question: "________of Speech"* (This sounds like a free money day from the MG producers. Freedom of Speech is the definitive answer. I'd be flabbergasted if they don't match today. Oopsie, as I watched Richard writing, I thought of Figure of Speech, so maybe it's not the slam-dunk I'd originally thought. Sorry.) Our new champ looks like she's pleasantly surprised to have given such a softball. Richard pens his response with little hesitation and without looking to chair #6 as he so often does. He files his card forthwith. Huh! She gives my second answer, "Figure of Speech." The audience seems to approve. I guess my first thought wasn't nearly as good as it sounded. Still, Freedom of Speech to me seems the better answer. Maybe it's a more common phrase today than in 1978? Oh well. Richard flashes a complacent little smile, so I'll guess that he's matched. Yes, he did. "Figure"! - Better that Richard matches the contestant than me! Richard scores his 357th H/H match today. ~~~Here's our updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: (An asterisk before a celebrity's name signifies that she has "retired" from the show and her H/H stats are now complete.) (For tied scores, I consider the one with the greater number of matches to be higher; if the matches are equal, the celeb who first achieved that score goes on top.) Orson Bean - 100% (4 matches in 4 attempts). TIE: (*)Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 matches in 4 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 matches in 4 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 71.4% (5 matches in 7 attempts). Betty - 50.0% (20 matches in 40 attempts). Charles - 48.6% (34 matches in 70 attempts). Fannie - 48.5% (16 matches in 33 attempts). (*)Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 matches in 18 attempts). Brett - 43.1% (31 matches in 72 attempts). Richard - 42.4% (357 matches in 841 attempts). Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 matches in 15 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 1207, excluding the missing/damaged/unavailable episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, 645, 910, 1024, 1025, 1026, 1027, 1028, 1029, and 1030. *Also, note that episode 849 was never produced. (These stats do, however, include the H/H results of missing episode 968 as those results were revealed in episode 969. Note: There was no H/H in missing episode 1035, as we learn in 1036.)

Yeah but she rarely matches the contestant. She just writes her own silliness and even when it’s so obvious a child could match. Passenger ended up in heaven, but her luggage ended up in “blank” - I’m sorry I really believe the obvious was hell, not Newark!!! Most of her answers were off the wall.. may she RIP however.

They had Helsinki and Honolulu from the upper row so it made sense she would give an answer like Newark. Also, the 6th seat is usually the one where you get some really off the wall and weird/funny answers. Betty,Fannie,Elaine and Marcia do the same as Patti.
