What a keeper Neville Southall was,and this from a Liverpool fan. He is also a true gent. The Reds were fantastic on this day and destroyed a Villa side who would go on to be European champions. A young Everton side on the up and a very entertaining Spurs side made football so much more competitive when the title was earned rather than bought.

Nice upload, reminds me of how Ardiles and Hoddle were a joy to watch in midfield for Spurs. Enjoyed The Lawman's analysis, too, and Elton Welsby's dulcet tones, the thinking man's Richard Keys.

Spurs were playing a brilliant blend of English/Continental football repeated many years later at CFC thanks of course to Glenn ⚽

Proper football I can imagine Brian Moore introducing the game on the Big Match..."So a large crowd at Goodison Park, the pictures are from Granada television.Everton versus Tottenham Hotspur and Spurs are in (looks away from the camera) the white shirts.

Brian Moore was renowned by mentioning the television region company .As far as televising a match which was not played in the Capital .it's not just a personal perception. Those of whom grew up in the 70s and 80s .Would know he was The Football Comentator of Football Comentators .Also being a superb presenter and post match interviewer

@@raymondhenderson1436 in the late 60s early 71s when a goal was scored, especially London teams, he would go apesh*t like Martians had just landed at Highbury. It would startle you, come mid 70s he had calmed it down a bit, shame. "OH, HE'S SCORED!! WHAT A GOAL!! I'M GOING DELIRIOUS!!!

So much of interest here. Some young Evertonians who would go on to greater things, not least Graeme Sharp who had an even better volley ‘in his locker’. Nice to see Glenn Hoddle’s class appreciated by Denis Law and Terry McDermott’s skill by Hugh Johns. But what about that opening goal by Notts County? Such brilliant team play! Who knew?

A league title won from the back of the field - a mere 12th on Boxing day!!

Shame ITV4 stopped the double bill. Liverpool v Ipswich yesterday, the Reds were superb. (Catch Match Time every Saturday on ITV4 1030 variable).

Notts County beating Ipswich, the biggest shock of the season so far?! Elton obviously forgot County beat the League Champions on their own patch on the opening day of that season!

15 goals for McDermott from midfield by end of January and still the ruthless Paisley dropped him for good come May Villa would go on to be champions of Europe beating Kiev and Bayern.
