I watch your channel, excellent information, I personally am a big fan of white Gold, like the feel/heft of it and it flies under the radar. As much as I would love a yellow Gold Sub or Daytona, I would not feel comfortable wearing it around people. However my white Gold Daytona and white Gold Sub not many people give them a second glance unless they are Watch enthusiasts. What are your thoughts on this. Thanks very much.@@the1916company

It definitely flies under the radar and depends on your objectives? Yellow gold tends to be more showy - with white gold, Rolex especially, enthusiasts can tell due to the configurations that are only available in the precious metal. It is like your little "secret". D ST Depends on where it’s used, there is no real friction when used in an oscillating weigh bc the bearing absorbs this, however in vintage pieces where gold train wheels were used, I never really saw any abnormal wear which could I always figured was chalked up to the gold content.

D ST It should also be noted that when wheels and pinions are properly depthed there is minimal friction as the teeth “roll” off of one another in a very smooth manner.

@@michaelmichaels471 Do the manufacturers publish what particular alloy they use? With bronze for example they will often say if they are using CuSn or CuAl. I suspect they probably dont publish that kind of information though...

John Gentile Not tungsten, but rather tantalum which is a very heavy and scratch resistant alloy that is dark grey in color, only place I’ve seen it used is in cases and bezels.

Mark S The water resistance has to do with the fitting of the joints or gaskets, not the metal itself.

Steel is far stronger, usually, for applications where weight (or magnetism/allergic reactions) is not an important factor, steel is preferred... About water resistance, there are 2 ways to look at the problem, the first one is by strength itself, in that case, a structure made of steel will easily support a greater pressure than one made by titanium, but there is another factor, and that's corrosion, which realistically shouldn't be a problem in watches, but it's where titanium is superior (and bronze even better)... Now, about titanium not holding a thread, it is because it is not as stiff as steel, so the fine threads tend to bend and make it... problematic...

World Known Agreed and that is why many brands use either steel or Titanium for the caseback.

@@michaelmichaels471 true. I still react to the lugs and the space around the case back. I'm so sensitive that I can't even wear some types of white gold due to the nickel content though.

Of course it will “move” however that also means that it will not damage as easily, in contrast when it does become cracked, cut or nicked it is not reparable so in there lies your trade off.

Edward Black Ti is more scratch resistant than steel, and the latter refinishes easier than Ti.. where Ti has its issues is that it flexes and can burn during refinishing porcesses.

Greg Mieg During the manufacturing process I did ask this question and was told “yes”, however I haven’t tried refining any parts to see if this is completely accurate (yet) however keep in mind that to have a carat content applied to it that means that the gold exists and therefore should be refined.
