Good luck with your habits friends!! What one habit are you GOING to build this year? P.S. Yes, it's true. I used the word "trying" in the title of the video and completely contradicted myself. It just sounded better as a title, what can I say?

My newly discovered tip for anyone who wants to read more: TAKE A BOOK TO THE BATHROOM WITH YOU INSTEAD OF YOUR PHONE. It has made the BIGGEST difference, honestly. Most of us nowadays probably sit on the toilet for ages scrolling through Instagram, so why not switch to sitting on the toilet for ages reading a book? Game. Changer.

@@Brownie63103 Hah! Happy to be of service! It’s honestly such a no-brainer, I can’t believe I didn’t start doing it until recently. I grew up with mom keeping magazines next to the toilet for entertainment, so books seem like such an obvious alternative. You can easily read 1-2 books a month just by doing this.
@savagebarbarian7973
@savagebarbarian7973 3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a good idea but no, it is so distracting to read in the toilet, and uncomfortable if I may say. Reading should be something we do in a quiet and comfortable environment and taking a shit take like 10 min and doing only 10 min of reading is not really ideal or productive for that matter.
@HexaAngel
@HexaAngel 3 жыл бұрын
@@savagebarbarian7973 I think it's up to personal preference. I don't find it distracting or unproductive, 10 minutes of reading is actually very good, and committing to read when you use the bathroom helps avoid the "I don't have time" excuse because that's time you're spending anyways. If it doesn't work for you personally that's okay, but maybe don't discourage people from at least trying, because it could work for them.

I found out on new years day that my house is being foreclosed on the 26th of this month. Through the stress of packing all my belongings I'm still finding time to learn how to code in 2 separate languages (JavaScript & python if y'all were interested). I am too determined to make 2021 my turning point in life, the time where I can finally get over the rut I've been in since 2014. I hope I remember this comment a year from now to leave an update on how the year treated me. I hope you reading this can find a way through you problems this year as well. Just remember there is always more history to be made, you just have to fight your battles to see the change.

I’ve personally found the “X number of books in a month” goal to be largely counterproductive. It can lead to putting pressure on yourself to read simply to get through the book, rather than read to understand, contemplate and expand your thinking. To help combat this, I set myself a goal of reading 10 pages a day. It’s bite-sized enough that it’s easily achieved, and also removes the time pressure to say I “finished” a book by an arbitrary deadline. Best of luck with all your 2021 goals, Matt!

I like the page goal idea but as I have books of various page sizes and content complexities I set a daily time per day I would prefer to be reading. Even going to far as to say that the time doesn’t have to be for the same book. As I am currently taking a break from college but will still be engaged in textbooks so that I don’t loose everything I have learned and am more motivated to start back time per day makes more sense for me. As ten pages in a textbook is time equivalent to almost 30 or more in a novel once again depending on topic and complexity. But I have been more successful breaking my yearly reading goal into time per day than t a set time per book and would the same for pages per day.

I try to read 10-20 minutes a day. That way if I’m reading something challenging it doesn’t give me pressure to read a certain amount and gives me room to read more if I want. But it also makes me push a bit if I’m reading a section I’m not thrilled with.

Hearing this ‘love you, guys’ at the end of the video from a male creator made me feel hopeful for 2021 already ✨☺️ Reminded me of The Mask You Live In documentary on Netflix on men negotiating America’s (and probably not much different in many other places) narrow definition of masculinity. Thank you, Matt!

Hi Matt. I actually started doing something very similar to this after watching your 'Tiny Changes W/ Big Results' upload. I opted to read every day, whether it be a paragraph (some days!) or hours on end. At the end of each year I look back at the amount I've read and it amazes me how such a little change to my day can have a big effect at the end of a year. Thanks.

Though the title seems a bit contradictory, but the essence is about taking small steps towards achieving big goals. I'm inspired to set one habit that I want to build this year, and I believe, with commitment and consistency, we can all accomplish remarkable things. Thanks for the motivation!

I just want to thank you Matt and a team for the amazing course you did. I am finishing the course and currently building my reading habit. The knowledge that you share is well organised and structured, and what was important to me, that there is a strong interaction between what I already experienced (like past failures) and what I should. Not only learning new stuff helps you to build habit, but reframing your past failures helps to build a more quality habit. I already planned a few habits upfront, which I want to implement in my life. I am not in rush and will do them slowly.

I am just rereading “Atomic Habits” by James Clear, that I originally read 2 years ago. I do want to refresh my habit attempts, but I also see how it all boils into one, in terms of behavioral economics, cognitive biases, behavior change, and obviously habit formation. A super huge recommendation for the book.
